What Are The Best Vampire Games Of Today?

Stalk the night to quench a wicked thirst with the top 10 vampire games everyone can play right now!

Finally! After a lot of waiting and reading, I got my hands on a copy of Vampyr, the latest RPG from Dontnod Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One). Lusting for such a game is no surprise for those who know me because I at least have to peek on anything vampire.

Playing the new game got me thinking of some of my favorite vampire adventures from the past. Putting a list together took some time considering vampires are a niche genre and they are usually a part of an ensemble of mythical beings. Yet, whether the titles focus on vampire life or not, there are some great vampire games everyone should check out. Here are my top 10!

10. Vampyr

Vampyr gameplay

Doctor Jonathan Reid is a professional who lives in London during the post-Victorian era.

As the flu was spreading and taking the lives of those who barely subsist in the harshest conditions, it was his duty to cure the citizens whose health was at risk.

What he will later discover is that he will have to also fight against his less moral side: his Vampyr instincts may become way too strong, and a huge challenge for him, as this will also attract Vampyr hunters and supernatural creatures.

What Makes Vampyr Awesome:

  • Create a web of contacts inside the city of London
  • Gain experience points when you investigate
  • Unlock vampire powers every time you feed on human blood

Use one and two-handed melee weapons, off handed weapons and ranged weapons to obliterate those who dare to stand on your way.

Every time you kill someone using your vampire powers, your victim will give you its last thought telepathically, which is ultimately very helpful to gain new information.

9. Vampire Legends: The True Story of Kisilova

The Habsburg dynasty is shaking after the Great Plague attacked a huge portion of their vassals during the 18th century.

Moreover, mysterious deaths are reported from Kisilova, Serbia, and then the Prince of Württemberg decides to send Imperial emissaries to see what’s going on in this isolated town. You will have to investigate, question witnesses and solve the well-known puzzles of every hidden object game that The True Story of Kisilova has to offer.

What Makes Vampire Legends: The True Story Of Kisilova Awesome:

  • Bonus chapter after you finish the main plot
  • Includes special content and art after you play the first time
  • Beautiful, mysterious soundtrack

You can get lost only by admiring how well done these hidden object scenes are. These mini games often come by as very difficult and challenging, but as an investigator, you should be patient and collected.

This hidden object game pictures beautifully the scent of the 18th century, with sophisticated and dark illustrations to set up the mysterious atmosphere of Kisilova.

8. Dracula: Love Kills

Dracula: Love Kills gameplay

The premise of this game starts very differently from others that you could imagine: this time, Dracula and his all-time archnemesis, Dr. Van Helsing, will have to ally to destroy the Queen of Vampires, who resurrected from her own ashes. Her only objective in this world is to destroy humanity and rule over their ruined lands.

What Makes Dracula: Love Kills Awesome:

  • Beautiful character design
  • Ending may vary according to your choices
  • 40 locations to explore

Every landscape in this game is like a gorgeous illustration, and you will never be able to look at them only once. The more you admire them, the more details you find.

You will have gorgeous downloadable content available (like wallpapers and the music files of the soundtrack) once you advance through the whole story and win all the achievements.

7. Skyrim – Dawnguard

Skyrim – Dawnguard gameplay

This downloadable add-on to the original The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim focuses on the conflict between The Dawnguard, an organization focused on hunting and killing vampires, and the clan of the Volkihar, a powerful vampire clan that wants to blot the sun out of the world. The best part of this game? You are absolutely free to choose which path you want to follow and shape the story according to your decisions.

What Makes Skyrim - Dawnguard Awesome:

  • Skill trees for both vampirism and lycanthropy
  • New locations: Soul Cairn and the Forgotten Vale
  • Three new dragon shouts: Drain Vitality, Soul Tear, and Summon Durnehviir

Experience the same decision-making scenes as in TES: Skyrim that will definitely determine the rest of the story.

If you want to join the Dawnguard, you will be able to learn and use different magic types and weapons, such as one-handed swords, bows, two handed swords, maces, etc.

6. BloodRayne

BloodRayne gameplay

In this game, you will play as the beautifully lethal Agent BloodRayne, who will have to face the Nazi army in order to prevent them from finding ancient artifacts and release creatures for their world domination plan. She works for a secret fraternity called The Brimstone Society, whose main objective is to stop supernatural threats. The most outstanding aspect of this agent is that half of her bloodline is vampiric, which makes her extra powerful and skilled.

What Makes BloodRayne Awesome:

  • You can choose to use either bladed weapons or firearms
  • You can drink blood to recover
  • Blood rage mode

Every time you fight in this game you will simply see blood everywhere. The gore of some scenes is indeed extremely crude.

Enjoy great and epic fighting scenes and cinematics that this extremely talented agent has to offer.

As part of the Revenants (Veins), you will have to fight ghouls and vampires in this frightening and post-apocalyptic dystopian world.

One of the groups you will have to fight is called The Lost, also known as those who tasted blood and lost any remains of their previous humanity.  They will not stop until they feast over whoever they want, and it’s your mission to stop them from devouring what’s left in this world.

What Makes Code Vein Awesome:

  • Enemies influenced by the Dark Souls’ series
  • Draining blood system
  • Magic skills that let you heal, buff yourself and debuff enemies

Explore this dystopian and post-apocalyptic world, which stands out as a non-typical environment for supernatural mythical creatures, especially vampires.

The enemies that you will find in this story are heavily influenced by myths and legends, but they also have new elements added to their design like machinery and a dark steampunk aesthetic, which matches perfectly with the dystopian universe.

3. Dark

Dark gameplay

Eric Bane is a vampire that has an incomplete transformation and suffers from amnesia. He’s told that in order to become a real vampire, he needs to drink the blood of his sire.

Otherwise, he will mutate into an abomination (a ghoul). His whole mission is to drink the blood of ancient and mighty vampires, but in a certain moment he experiences an inherently good vision that makes him question his entire life.

What Makes Dark Awesome:

  • Use darkness as a cover to annihilate your enemies in silence
  • Stalk your prey
  • Find every sophisticated location that works as a hidden lair

Dark utilizes a color palette that’s very frequent in dystopian universes, and it uses skyscrapers, cities, and other buildings, but it also includes the mythological aspect of being a fierce vampire that works in the modern world.

Use the darkness that surrounds you as an advantage and kill your enemies without them noticing you at all.

2. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

He needs to recover back his powers, make an agreement with Death itself and finally defeat Satan, as it’s the only way that he would finally be able to live the rest of his days peacefully.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2 Awesome:

  • Chaos claws: break through enemy defenses
  • Movable camera view
  • Epic boss fight scenes

In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 you will find several types of creatures, most of them inspired on myths, but with an added dark tone and design that’s so characteristic of this series.
