Dark Souls 3 Best Covenants Revealed (All Covenants Ranked From Worst to Best)
Choose Wisely

Covenants are special groups that you can join as you make your way through the game, accessing them by talking to NPCs, praying to altars, and other ways. Some are stronger than others since they all carry different benefits with them, most often connected to multiplayer. This article will cover all of the covenants in Dark Souls 3, in order of worst to best, as well as the perks of joining them.

9. Aldrich Faithful

The Aldrich Faithful is a simple covenant that has the basic mechanic of collecting a certain number of items to increase your rank in it. To unlock it, you need to find the illusory wall in the room just past the garden of giants in Anor Londo, climb down a ladder and kill the two beasts guarding Archdeacon McDonnell. Praying to him will assign you to the covenant and offering him Human Dregs deepens your connection to the covenant.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Human Dregs – Great Deep Soul
  • 30 Human Dregs – Archdeacon’s Great Staff
  • -
  • Achievement: Covenant: Aldrich Faithful

8. Way of Blue

The Way of Blue covenant is another very simple one, with no specific rewards or unique features to speak of, but they do have an iconic “protection” role in the game aimed at new players. When you join this covenant, a Blue will be summoned to fight any invaders that invade your world, protecting you. This can take a while, so you have to be careful. If you’re a new player and you’re struggling with invasions, consider this covenant for some added protection.

Covenant rewards:

  • Achievement: Covenant: Way of Blue

7. Watchdogs of Farron

Located in the stone fortress in the poison swamp area, the Old Wolf of Farron sleeps forever. I honestly thought it was a boss on my first playthrough and was thoroughly unsettled. Nonetheless, he is a good boi, and praying to him will give you Watchdogs of Farron, allowing you to enter the covenant. Once you’re in, you will be auto-summoned to defend players against invaders in other worlds, as long as you remain near the Farron Keep area, or, within the range of the Crystal Sage and the Abyss Watchers. The item you need to farm and offer to the Old Wolf is Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass, which you can farm from the Ghrus in the area.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass – Old Wolf Curved Sword
  • 30 Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass – Wolf Knight’s Greatshield and Wolf Ring
  • -
  • Achievement: Covenant: Watchdogs of Farron

6. Blue Sentinels

The Blue Sentinels are the counterpart of the Way of Blue covenant. Members of the Blue Sentinels will be summoned to protect players affiliated with the Way Of Blue when they get invaded. Unfortunately, Blue Sentinels cannot help with boss encounters when summoned, so they can only help the player make their way along. To increase your rank within the covenant, you need to kill invading players, which will reward you with a Proof of Concord Kept, and collecting enough of them will give you some nice rewards.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Proof of Concord Kept – Darkmoon Ring
  • 30 Proof of Concord Kept – Darkmoon Blade
  • -
  • Achievement – Covenant: Blue Sentinels

5. Warrior of Sunlight

One of the most iconic covenants and general themes, the Warriors of Sunlight focus on assisting comrades found at various places around the world. They are recognized by their very prominent golden glow and the Praise the Sun gesture that they use whenever they are summoned. Completing their purpose of summoning will gift the summoned player and the host with a Sunlight Medal, which can be deposited at the Sunlight Altar, for rewards.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Sunlight Medals – Sacred Oath
  • 30 Sunlight Medals – Great Lightning Spear
  • -
  • Achievement – Covenant: Warrior of Sunlight

4. Blades of the Darkmoon

This covenant has the same effect as the Blue Sentinels, with the added hostility towards the Aldritch Faithful covenant. Completing the purpose of the summoning will award the summoned player with a Proof of Concord Kept, which you can give to Company Captain Yorshka to get somerewards.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Proof of Concord Kept – Darkmoon Ring
  • 30 Proof of Concord Kept – Darkmoon Blade
  • -
  • Achievement – Covenant: Blade of the Darkmoon

3. Rosaria’s Fingers

Rosaria’s Fingers is another covenant associated with the Cathedral of the Deep, and it carries some very nice perks for joining. The most notable of these perks is the ability to be “reborn”, so you can re-spec your stats and appearance, using a Pale Tongue each time. This rebirthing is limited to 5 times per NG cycle, so if you want to do it more than 5 times, you need to restart the run. Defeating an invading spirit will reward you with a Pale Tongue that you can give to Rosaria in the Cathedral of the Deep.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Pale Tongue – Obscuring Ring
  • 30 Pale Tongue – Man-Grub’s Staff
  • -
  • Achievement – Covenant: Rosaria’s Fingers

2. Spears of the Church

The Spears of the Church covenant was added in the Ringed City and is unlocked by defeating Darkeater Midir. The summoning mechanic of this covenant is noticeably different from other ones, wherein you get summoned to the Halflight, Spear of the Church fight to act a boss for the player to defeat. This offers another layer of complexity because then the fight isn’t as predictable, and you can fight many different players this way. Successfully completing this task gives you Fillianore’s Spear Ornament, for rewards.

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Fillianore’s Spear Ornament – Young Grass Dew
  • 30 Fillianore’s Spear Ornament – Diving Spear Fragment

1. Mound Maker

Finally, we come to the Mound Maker. Spirits summoned through this covenant can kill anything in the world. If a host summons you to help with an enemy phantom, you can kill both the host and the phantom, reaping the rewards for yourself. Completing your purpose in the world you’re summoned to will give you a Vertebra Shackle, which you can give to the altar in the Pit of Hollows to deepen your covenant rank. Consult the wiki to learn how to enter the covenant!

Covenant rewards:

  • 10 Vertebra Shackle – Bloodlust (Katana)
  • 30 Vertebra Shackle – Warmth (Pyromancy)
  • -
  • Achievement – Covenant: Mound Makers
