[Top 10] Dota 2 Faceless Void Counters (Best Heroes Against Faceless Void in Dota 2)

Master of manipulating time, Faceless Void is the rage in the current meta due to the buffs on his spells, making him deal more damage. Played as a safelane carry, Void is known to have an easy early game with his Timewalk which makes him go back in time and essentially reverse the damage done to him a few seconds back. His exceptional Chronosphere is the unique selling point it traps multiple heroes inside who face the wrath of his devastating physical damage. His mobility and disable make him highly valuable, hence the insane pick rate seen in this ongoing International. People have realized the insane potential of this beast in pubs, and they do not want to miss out on that extra MMR.

Faceless Void is without a doubt powerful in the current meta, but like all heroes, there are ways to go about if you want to counter him. His spells can be countered with certain heroes or even certain items. We bring you the Best 10 Faceless Void Counters in the current meta. These heroes are often seen picked against him, so you better start picking them!

General items to buy against Faceless Void

  • Orchid of Malevolence - Ir can be used to silence Void for 5 seconds, also dealing them an extra 30% damage at the end of its duration. It can be used to prevent Void from using Timewalk or Cronosphere.
  • Heaven’s Halberd - Upon usage, it disarms Void, making him unable to do physical attacks while the caster and others can freely attack them. You can use it on the Void while he is inside the Chronosphere (if you aren’t caught by it), essentially wasting his time as he can’t physically damage your allies.
  • Eul’s Scepter - Upon usage, it is used to sweep yourself or Faceless Void into the air for 2.5 seconds, making him unable to use spells or move. This can be used to lock Zeus down inside his Chronosphere, essentially removing him from the fight if he does not have magic immunity.
  • Assault Cuirass/any armor item- Assault Cuirass increases armor and attack speed while reducing the same for enemies in an AoE. Armor in general can be a great tool to stop Void from dealing ungodly amounts of physical damage to you, he will still deal significant damage but if you have enough armor items like Assault or Shiva’s Guard, then you are slightly safe from his damage.
  • Scythe of Vyse - It can be used to hex Void, essentially making him unable to use spells or items, along with reducing his movement speed for 3.5 seconds. Highly useful to shut him down, making him useless in teamfights.
  • Aeon Disk - Saves heroes from getting burst quickly inside Void’s Chronosphere and also applies a basic dispel, although it has an extremely high cooldown of 180 seconds.

10. Pudge

Pudge, the menacing butcher is undoubtedly one of the most picked heroes in the game. Faceless Void can fare well against Pudge in the laning phase as he can just brush off the Hook or Rot damage with his Timewalk. But as we know, Faceless Void’s strength revolves around the Chronosphere, and if Pudge is quick enough to pull him out of it and use Dismember on him (even if he has a Black King Bar!) then there is no way there will be any Timewalking done anytime soon!

You may not be the greatest hooker in the game but it does not take a Dendi to hook stationary targets out from the Chrono. Pudge can easily save his allies or eat them if they are caught on the edge of the Chronosphere. He is also extremely tanky, and can be ignored by Void if he has his Rot on during the Chrono. Overall, a good Pudge can do enough damage to make Void players abandon the hero entirely!

Why is Pudge a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Rot deals immense damage if kept toggled on inside the Chronosphere, this lowers Void’s HP slowly, making him prioritize other targets instead.
  • Flesh Heap will help Pudge survive through the Chronosphere with enough stacks, and follow with Dismember.
  • Meat Hook can be used to pull an ally or even the enemy Void out of Chronosphere.

Items to buy against Faceless Void

  • Aether Lens - Provides increased cast range on items and spells, and can be used to catch the Void off-guard with the increased range.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter - Can “eat” an ally, basically ingesting them and healing them inside him, it can be used on allies inside Chronosphere.
  • Blink Dagger - Upon cast, Blink transports Pudge 1200 units in the distance he is facing, can’t be used for 3 seconds if he takes any form of damage, though Rot damage does not count. Blink is used for closing the gap and to get on top of Void, or it can also be used to escape away from him.
  • Blademail - Reflects Void’s damage to him upon activation. This is highly useful in teamfights if you time it right as Void is about to use Chronosphere, making him ignore you for the majority of the duration.

9. Earth Spirit

Kaolin, the Earth Spirit is undoubtedly one of the best gankers in the game. Faceless Void can fare well in the laning stage against Earth Spirit due to his Timewalk, but it is the mid-game where the latter shines bright. ES is an exceptional hero for catching slippery heroes, he can also disable them with his Geomagnetic Grip which silences them. This combined with Magnetize, his ultimate, can quickly turn Void into rubble with all the magical damage over time. Faceless Void can’t do much if he is silenced and controlled by this earthly beast.

Just like most heroes on this list, Earth Spirit can be played in multiple roles, his flexibility ensures he fits in every other matchup and contributes to teamfights by disabling Void and his allies while dealing some insane damage that can’t be negated easily. Void has ways to negate the silence and damage in the late game, but he can still fall prey to Earth Spirit if he is not cautious enough to use his spells preemptively before the start of a team fight.

Why is Earth Spirit a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Earth Spirit’s Rolling Boulder and Geomagnetic Grip can be used to disable Faceless Void so he cannot escape with Time Walk.
  • Rolling Boulder will allow Earth Spirit to get on top of Faceless Void at all stages of the game.

Items to buy on Earth Spirit

  • Spirit Vessel - Immense DPS and heal reduction to Faceless Void when used. This item can be used to reduce Void’s lifesteal as well as the HP he gains from Time Walk, also rendering heals and Satanic useless.
  • Force Staff - Allows Earth Spirit to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction he is facing.
  • Ghost Scepter - Upon usage, it makes Earth Spirit immune to physical attacks while making him unable to attack at the same time. He also takes increased magical damage under its duration. Faceless Void does virtually zero damage inside the Chronosphere if you have Ghost Scepter.
  • Heaven’s Halberd - Earth Spirit can use this item to disarm Void, making him unable to attack for a few seconds. Faceless Void is a melee physical damage hero who is affected severely by this item as it can prevent him from doing damage in teamfights.
  • Glimmer Cape - Provides invisibility, and can also be used on allies to escape or to initiate on Faceless Void.

8. Sniper

If there is one hero that Void players could permanently delete then it would have to be Sniper! Looks are often deceiving, this dwarf marksman is the stuff nightmares are made of. Seriously, does anyone not have the PTSD from 6.82 patch? Faceless Void struggles largely against ranged heroes as they can prove to be menacing if not caught inside the Chronosphere. Sniper is no exception, his significant attack range makes it quite hard for Void to target him, while the marksman can simply demolish him with his attack damage.

The late game can be quite tricky for the Sniper if Void decides to opt for items like Silver Edge or Swift Blink, as they allow him to get on top of the former and beat him down. Positioning is always the key while playing against crowd-control heroes like the Void. A good Sniper player can have an impact in teamfights without being in the forefront. All his items grant him ungodly amounts of damage which can ruin the game of the Void if he does not lock him down.

What makes Sniper great against Faceless Void?

  • High base attack range allows Sniper to strike Void down if he isn’t caught in the Chronosphere.
  • Can have an impact right from the mid-game, while Void farms away to acquire multiple items.
  • Due to Sniper's Shrapnel and his attack long-range, Void has a hard time taking the high ground, buying more time for his allies to either respawn or discourage Void to push any further.

Items to buy on Sniper

  • Maelstorm/Mjolnir - Malestorm provides Sniper a chance to deal AoE damage on physical attacks. It’s a great item to counter the familiars by dealing AoE damage to them. Its upgrade, Mjolnir, can be used to cast on yourself or allies to deal AoE damage to enemies attacking you under its duration. Both of these items are excellent to stop Void’s onslaught.
  • Dragon Lance - Provides increased stats and regen along with increased attack range. Sniper is anything but tanky, but an early-game Dragon Lance assures he does not get prioritized by Faceless Void in fights. It can further be upgraded into a Hurricane Pike.
  • Mask of Madness - Increased attack speed and lifesteal, along with increasing your movement speed. This allows Sniper to deal high damage without many intervals.
  • Shadow Blade - Provides invisibility which can be used to escape or set up on Faceless Void. It can later be upgraded into Silver Edge which can disable the latter’s passive Bash right after breaking invisibility.
  • Monkey King Bar - Provides increased physical attack damage, also provides true strike upon physical attacks, preventing or essentially countering Void if he purchases Butterfly.
  • Daedalus - Deals high critical damage, it can be used to deal high damage to Faceless Void in the mid-game.

7. Axe

Not all heroes can deal ungodly amounts of damage right from the early game. Axe is a noble exception to this statement! He is an exceptional laner, and leaves no stones unturned against melee heroes like Faceless Void. The latter finds it hard to lane against Axe as he is constantly harassed and shoved off the lane with both Battle Hunger and Counter Helix. Just like Void, Axe is also relevant through the late game, but the latter prevails as he has high armor and HP, and does not falter easily. He can always jungle to acquire his Blink if he somehow has a difficult laning phase.

Even a farmed Faceless Void can succumb to one Axe Blink Call. Void simply can’t do much to Axe when he obtains items like Black King Bar and Blademail, rendering the former quite useless. As the warmonger is tanky, Void can’t penetrate his armor inside the Chronosphere, ignoring him largely in teamfights. Even if Void manages to hit Axe inside his Chrono, he may just be susceptible to the Counter Helix spins, which can mow him down within no time.

Why is Axe a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Axe is extremely tanky, and highly elusive, making Void ignore him during teamfights.
  • All it takes is just a Blink Dagger and Blademail for Axe to have an impact against Void.
  • Faceless Void can’t target Axe in the Chronosphere due to the threat of Counter Helix spins.
  • Axe can also solo kill Void with the correct items.

Items to Buy on Axe

  • Blink Dagger - Blink transports Axe 1200 units in the distance he is facing, it can’t be used for 3 seconds if he takes any form of damage. Blink is used to close the gap and to get on top of Faceless Void and follow it up with Call.
  • Blademail - Reflects Faceless Void’s damage to him upon activation. This is a staple item on Axe, as he has enough HP to tank through the damage while reflecting it to Void, it can make him ignore you if you time it right before the Chronosphere.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard - AoE Battle Hunger and reduced CD on spells
  • Force Staff - Allows you to force yourself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be useful to catch or escape from Void’s Chronosphere if you time it right.
  • Black King Bar - Provides spell immunity, making Axe invulnerable in the fight

6. Omniknight

Omniknight is by far one of the most criminally underrated heroes in the game. Support heroes often do not have their impacts felt from the laning phase, but Omniknight is a noble exception. His heal keeps him and his allies sustained in the laning phase, while also shoving out Void if he is facing him. He is extremely easy to play and he is also level reliant and does not rely on items to make a dent in Void’s gameplay. You can save allies and yourself if you do not get caught in the Chronosphere.

Omniknight can render Void’s Chronosphere useless with the help of his ultimate, Guardian Angel. This spell grants physical damage immunity to Omni and all his allies in an AoE, essentially ruining the game for the poor Void. Positioning is again, key when it comes to playing against Void. People often ignore and fail to understand the importance of Omniknight in pub games. He is quite the tanky support hero, which makes him highly sought after against heroes like Faceless Void.

What makes Omniknight great against Faceless Void?

  • Guardian Angel can negate all the physical damage output during Chronosphere.
  • Degen Aura can make Faceless Void hard to get on top of Omniknight.
  • When Faceless Void Time Walk's on top of an enemy it becomes a perfect target for Purification and Heavenly Grace reduces his Time Lock stun duration.

Items to buy on Omniknight

  • Aether Lens - It provides increased cast range on both spells and items, and can be used to catch Faceless Void off-guard
  • Guardian Greaves - Provides dispel and heals the entire team
  • Force Staff - Another great tool to close gaps or escape from Void
  • Lotus Orb - Reflects targetted spells
  • Aghanim’s Scepter - Global Guardian Angel can save allies from Void’s immense damage in the Chronosphere from anywhere on the map

5. Winter Wyvern

The cold and dreadful Winter Wyvern sends chills down Faceless Void’s spine with her icy abilities. The laning phase is quite annoying for the Void as he can be subjected to harassment by the Wyvern. The former finds it hard to negate all the damage, making him retire to the jungle or switch lanes, as if he ignores the Wyvern’s threat, he can quite surely lose his life within no time. A great Wyvern player knows how to position properly, ensuring she isn’t caught in the Chronosphere, while also using Winter’s Curse on the Void, making him unable to do any damage to her allies.

The bone-chilling threat of Wyvern’s curse ensures Faceless Void or his allies don’t stick around. She can also sustain herself and her allies with her heals. She is also known to be a great pick in most situations and certainly does wonders against Void due to her great crowd-control abilities. But the prominent reason for picking her is Winter’s Curse, her ultimate. It forces Void to use his Chronosphere wisely, making him unable to go on enemies if he does not see the Wyvern around.

Why is Winter Wyvern a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Cold Embrace can be used to save any ally Faceless Void initiates with his Chronosphere.
  • Winter's Curse can also be used to disrupt the Chronosphere, making Void’s nearby allies hit him.
  • She is an excellent crowd-control hero who does not require multiple items to stay relevant and is more of a level-reliant hero.

Items to Buy on Winter Wyvern

  • Aether Lens - Provides increased cast range on both spells and items, and can be used to catch Void off-guard with your ultimate from outside his Chronosphere.
  • Glimmer Cape- Upon cast, it turns Winter Wyvern or the targetted ally invisible, allowing you to escape from Void’s lethal damage.
  • Holy Locket - It can be used to heal allies upon usage, based on the charges which are granted based on enemy hero casting spells, basically a glorified Magic Stick. This provides WW tiny bit of sustain and healing required to withstand Void’s damage. She can also use it from outside the Chronosphere to heal her allies.
  • Ghost Scepter - Upon usage, it makes Winter Wyvern immune to physical attacks while making her unable to attack at the same time. She also takes increased magical damage under its duration. Faceless Void does virtually zero damage if you have Ghost Scepter.
  • Blink Dagger - Blink transports Winter Wyvern 1200 units in the distance she is facing, it can’t be used for 3 seconds if she takes any form of damage. Blink is used to closing the gap and initiate onto Faceless Void.

4. Silencer

Silencer is a lethal force against Faceless Void right from the laning phase, making him use his regen quite early on, or shove him off the lane within no time. Having spells that silence or prevent Faceless Void from using any spells makes him very powerful against him. Global Silence can essentially catch him off-guard, making him unable to use Timewalk or Chronosphere in teamfights, reducing his impact. Silence is an incredible mechanism in the game which makes the Void extremely vulnerable.

Faceless Void is quite squishy in the laning stage as he lacks the magic resistance, making him susceptible to Silencer’s frequent harassment with Arcane Curse and Last Word, reducing his HP. Along with that, Silencer also steals Void’s Intelligence which essentially reduces his mana pool for a brief duration making him unable to cast enough spells. The Silencer is overall a solid counter to the Faceless Void, and the best part is that his flexibility can be played in pretty much any position against the time bender!

Why is Silencer great against Faceless Void?

  • Global Silence can render Void useless for 6 seconds, making him unable to cast any spells.
  • Arcane Curse punishes the Void, discouraging him from using any spells while slowly ticking him down with the decent DPS.
  • Glaives of Wisdom reduce Void’s INT on each attack, essentially making Silencer steal all his INT and mana for a brief duration.

Items to buy against Faceless Void

  • Glimmer Cape - You can quickly get away with using Glimmer or save your allies by granting them invisibility, it is an essential item on support Faceless Void.
  • Ghost Scepter - The scepter makes you immune to physical attacks while making you unable to attack at the same time. You also take increased magical damage under its duration. Faceless does zero damage if you have Ghost Scepter.
  • Aeon Disk - Saves him from getting burst quickly from Void’s physical damage and also applies a basic dispel upon reaching the threshold.
  • Force Staff - Allows Silencer to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing. It is quite essential in catching or escaping from Faceless Void.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard - Aghanim’s Scepter makes Last Word an AoE ability, while the Shard causes Glaives of Wisdom to silence on every fourth attack and steal increased INT.

3. Abbadon

The Lord of Avernus, Abbadon is a quintessential pick against Faceless Void, and there are various reasons for this. The first is his ability to shield his allies from outside the Chronosphere, making them take less damage, along with him being able to heal them with Mist Coil. Borrowed Time ultimate always comes in handy as it doesn’t always have to be manually used, but is auto-activated if Abbadon falls below a certain HP threshold.

Abbadon is a great support hero against Faceless Void if he positions himself right in teamfights and does not get caught. The Void can’t do well in the laning phase against him because of his highly high harass capabilities, often shoving him out of the lane. Abbadon movement speed and slow with his passive. Pudge also can’t dismember any target surrounding Abbadon due to his Aphotic Shield, making him extremely useless.

Why is Abbadon a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Mist Coil and Aphotic Shield enable Abaddon to keep an ally alive during Chronosphere.
  • Borrowed Time prevents Faceless Void from killing Abaddon during his Chronosphere.

Items to buy against Faceless Void

  • Holy Locket - Locket is used to heal allies or himself on usage, based on the charges which are granted based on enemy hero casting spells, basically a glorified Magic Stick. This provides the tiny bit of sustain and healing required to withstand Void’s damage.
  • Mekansm - Heals allies and Abbadon in an AoE, it can be used to turn the fight around and keep allies healthy throughout the fight.
  • Glimmer Cape - Cape upon cast provides invisibility, and can also be used on allies to escape or to initiate on Void
  • Blademail - Upon cast, it causes all the damage dealt to Abbadon to be reflected back to the caster. It is useful to reflect Void’s damage back to him upon activation.

2. Vengeful Spirit

The threatening Vengeful Spirit is quite a staple pick in the current patch, her spells are extremely useful in catching heroes off-guard and locking them down. Our mighty Faceless Void is no exception, he falls prey to Venge’s ultimate which Swaps their places, taking him out of the Chronosphere most of the time. Vengeful Spirit also can be rather tough to lane against for Void as he constantly gets harassed and gets his armor lowered.

Vengeful Spirit is notorious for being a great gap closer, and the best part is that she is level reliant as opposed to the farm, which is the exact opposite of our Void. The latter is often scouted out by Wave of Terror and if he is in range, he may be swapped out into his death. Not all heroes, especially in the support roles are seen to have such great initiating powers. She is also quite flexible and can be played in the core position against the Void, depending on the overall lane matchups.

Why is Vengeful Spirit a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Venge can use her Nether Swap to save allies inside the Chronosphere.
  • She can also use both Wave of Terror and Missile from outside the Chronosphere to essentially weaken Void.
  • Wave of Terror grants flying vision, giving the location of Faceless Void.

Items to buy on Vengeful Spirit

  • Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard - Creates an illusion of Venge upon death, while she can still use spells as well as respawn on the illusion if it survives
  • Force Staff - Allows you to force yourself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be useful to escape or initiate on the Void.
  • Glimmer Cape - Provides invisibility, and can also be used on allies to escape or to initiate on Faceless Void.
  • Aeon Disk - Saves him from getting burst quickly inside Void’s Chronosphere and also applies a basic dispel, although it has an extremely high cooldown of 180 seconds.
  • Lotus Orb - Upon usage, it reflects targetted spells to the caster. Along with that, it can be used to dispel any enemy debuffs.

1. Shadow Demon

Shadow Demon is arguably one of the most underrated heroes in the game. His exceptional magic damage is terrifying for most heroes with low magic resistance. Faceless Void absolutely hates facing the likes of Shadow Demon, his spells disable him, annoy him, and pretty much make him useless if he is caught off-guard. Laning is not fun for the Void as he is constantly getting harassed with Shadow Poison, as enough stacks can quickly make him disappear from the lane!

It is advised to play this hero in the core role against Faceless Void, as the demon can quickly accumulate gold to acquire items that can counter the time-bending menace. The late game boils down to positioning and ultimately the pure mechanical skill of the players involved. Shadow Demon can effectively disable Void if he isn’t caught in the Chronosphere. An excellent player will always keep his eye out on the map, ensuring he isn’t getting ganked by Void.

Why is Shadow Demon a great counter to Faceless Void?

  • Disruption can banish Faceless Void or an ally in Chronosphere, making it a less effective ability.
  • Faceless Void's illusions created by Disruption will not get stunned by Chronosphere, allowing Shadow Demon to attack Faceless Void in his Chronosphere.
  • Casting Disruption after releasing Shadow Poison charges will make Time Walk unable to backtrack the damage.
  • Shadow Poison is a good way to deal damage as the initial damage and the release damage can't both be Time Walked at the same time.
  • Demonic Purge is a great slow, useful to force out a Time Walk early, and can break Time Lock with Aghanim's Scepter.

Items to buy on Shadow Demon

  • Aether Lens - It provides increased cast range on both spells and items, and can be used to catch Faceless Void off-guard
  • Force Staff - Allows Shadow Demon to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction he is facing. This is a great item against Void if used properly, you can essentially avoid the Chronosphere if you time it right. It can also be used to escape or set up on him.
  • Ethereal Blade - Upon usage, it transforms the targetted enemy or ally into ghost form, making them unable to attack or get attacked, while taking increased magic damage. This item is exceptional if you get to use it on the Void from outside the Chronsphere, making him unable to do any damage and essentially wasting his ultimate.
  • Aghanim's Scepter - It applies break with two extra charges which are well worth the cost, and you should always consider it at one point or another, as it disables Void’s timelock, making him useless in the Chronosphere.
  • Scythe of Vyse - It can be used to hex Void, essentially making him unable to use spells or items, along with reducing his movement speed for 3.5 seconds. Highly useful to shut him down, making him useless in teamfights.
  • Shiva’s Guard - Upon usage, it lets out a freezing burst in a radius that slows enemies and deals magic damage. It also provides immense armor which is essential for squishy heroes like Shadow Demon if he gets caught in the Chronosphere.
