Nothing is quite intoxicating as taking the biggest, heaviest, strongest weapon in the game and bonking heads with it. This intoxication is known as playing with STR weapons. The direct opposite of DEX weapons, STR weapons are far slower. But what they lack in weapon speed, they make up for it in terms of pure, raw damage alongside immensely powerful Poise breaking capabilities.
The following are, in my opinion, the best STR weapons available in the game. I have a personal love for STR weapons and tend to use them for my first run always. Unlike DEX weapons, they require a significantly higher skill level, but are also at the same time, quite rewarding to actually use. A lot of these weapons vary in speed and actual use, however, so make sure you understand the fundamentals of the weapon before you dive in.
10. Ghiza’s Wheel
Pizza Cutters never dry out
During the days of Bloodborne, one weapon was infamous for how much carnage and destruction it could inflict upon the enemy within a short matter of time. This was the Whirligig Saw, aptly dubbed "The Pizza Cutter" by adoring fans. Ghiza's Wheel is a triumphant return to form, as it allows you to decimate your enemies with ease using its wonderful Ash of War.
Due to the number of hits, the Bleed build-up to this weapon per hit is lower than your average other weapons. But that shouldn't discourage you as its' Ash of War is an onslaught of damage. The wrath and destruction that you incur upon your enemy are truly worthy of envy. Ghiza's Wheel is a beloved weapon, and I was truly grateful to see it return to Elden Ring.
Ghiza’s Wheel Stats:
- STR - 28 (D)
- DEX - 18 (D)
What Ghiza’s Wheel excels in:
- Respectable Bleed Build-up
- Ash of War is reminiscent of Pizza Cutter from Bloodborne
- Dealing a lot of Poise damage

9. Prelate’s Inferno Crozier
There is only pain and satisfaction down this route
What makes Prelate’s Inferno Crozier such a good STR weapon is the fact that it yields one of my favorite Ashes of War in the game. Prelate’s Charge allows you to slam your Hammer into the ground, and push it forward in a blaze of glory. This is amazing. So first off, Bleed weapons are generally a bad idea on Colossal Weapons. The Prelate’s Inferno Crozier is an exception to that precisely because of how many hits you can count in with that Ash of War.
With the power of Bleed, and the Ash of War, you can relive the days of Smough as you become the Bleedozer, pummelling anything in your path. If you charge the R2, you can also fling the enemies into the air which is pretty cool if not that effective, poise-wise. I like this weapon for the fact you can buff it with various things, making it a real menace when it comes to it.
Prelate’s Inferno Crozier Stats:
- STR - 45 (C)
- DEX - 8 (E)
What Prelate’s Inferno Crozier excels in:
- Ash of War lets you charge the Hammer into enemies
- Reminds you of Smough’s Hammer
- Can be buffed with Magic

8. Lordsworn’s Greatsword
Early weapons are good too!
Lordsworn’s Greatsword is quite possibly one of, if not, the first weapons you can obtain in this game. And boy oh boy, does it stack up so well against so many options. So at first, this weapon seems to have no appeal, but that’s incorrect. This weapon is your carry till midgame after which your build should be good enough to swap in for more appropriate weapons.
I, personally, used this game for the majority of my game until I defeated Radahn with it and switched to his Greatswords. There’s something really satisfying about this weapon. From its nice speed (compared to most Greatswords) to its great damage scaling. Plus you can infuse it with various Ashes of War (the prerequisite item for that is also obtained from here) that help you on the field immensely.
Lordsworn’s Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 16 (D)
- DEX - 10 (D)
What Lordsworn’s Greatsword excels in:
- Early game weapon that you can obtain immediately
- Practical speed and damage
- Excellent with almost anything

7. Grafted Blade Greatsword
Game of Thrones lives on
Grafted Blade Greatsword is a Legendary Armanent you can obtain from defeating the Leonine Misbegotten at Castle Morne. Now…this weapon is absolutely goofy. I mean look at its design. But man oh man, does this weapon please every inch of your STR bonking urges you have? Amusingly, you can also obtain the Rusted Anchor from the Weeping Peninsula which, while doesn’t compare to this weapon, is also pretty cool.
Anyway, back to this weapon, Grafted Blade Greatsword has a unique buff where it increases all your stats by 5 for 30 seconds which is a neat little buff to help you in most situations, especially in faster combats. Being a Colossal Weapon, it deals an immense amount of damage and poise, but it's also quite slow, so be sure to understand the weapon well before swinging haphazardly.
Grafted Blade Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 40 (C)
- DEX - 14 (E)
What Grafted Blade Greatsword excels in:
- Great buff from Ash of War
- Deals immense damage
- Deals immense poise damage as well

6. Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear
Nihil! Nihil! Nihil!
When I watched the starting cutscene of the game, I didn’t have much of an impression of Mohg. He just seemed okay at best. Then I found him in the Leyndell Sewers and alright, it’s an okay boss, was that it? Then we find him at Mohgwyn’s Palace and oh God. Suddenly, this apparition of a boss that was just a pesky nuisance at first suddenly transforms into this blood-drenched nightmare fuel with wings.
Mohg’s second phase is one of the most memorable bosses fights in my memory and I was very keen on utilizing his weapon upon receiving it. And yes it absolutely delivers. Its unique Ash of War allows you to start going NIHIL on all foes around you making it absolutely deadly against anyone hiding at a different spot or say climbing stairs. There’s a lot of practical use for this weapon, and it hits like a truck too.
Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear Stats:
- STR - 24 (D)
- DEX - 14 (E)
- ARC - 27 (D)
What Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear excels in:
- Ash of war is a terrifying force
- Great Arcane scaling
- Damage is great as well

5. Greatsword
AHHHH BERSERK TIME
If you’re a FromSoftware fan, surely you already recognize how much influence Berserk has had on Miyazaki’s works. The Greatsword is a love letter to the Dragonslayer from Berserk, being nearly identical to Gut’s infamous weapon. Getting it is funny because you have to get it from a bunch of demon Dogs and demon Crows, which are just hell to fight. But getting it is definitely worth it.
Anyone who’s played these games recognizes the sheer amount of bias that goes into these weapons. They are deadly in every single way. Being relatively normal, you have a lot of customization you can put into this weapon. Its real appeal comes from what an absolute beast it is in PvP. Anyone skilled with this weapon would definitely not go down without a fight.
Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 31 (C)
- DEX - 12 (E)
What Greatsword excels in:
- Amazing damage potential
- Great reach and punishes PvP players
- Can be infused with any Ash of War
How to get Greatsword:
4. Godslayer’s Greatsword
The coolest if the most confusing design
Godslayer’s Greatsword is a weapon you can obtain by going through Hell and fighting Godskin Apostle - which is no easy feat as it is harder than the one found in Atlus Plateau. After you finally defeat that grueling boss fight, you are rewarded with this weapon. Now you might’ve noticed but there’s no other Faith weapon in this list, that’s because, in my opinion, this might be the best one to use if you’re using an FTH/STR build. The other main FTH Greatswords lean more on DEX than this one so I decided to opt them out.
This weapon comes with its own unique Ash of War that surrounds the area in Blackflame, a status effect that is always terrifying to fight against. It deals a lot of damage against most anything and is very hard to counter. With an amazing moveset to boot, there’s no doubt in my head that Godslayer’s Greatsword is one of the best STR weapons.
Godslayer’s Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 20 (D)
- DEX - 22 (D)
- FTH - 20 (D)
What Godslayer’s Greatsword excels in:
- Blackflame Ash of War
- Strong FTH weapon
- Has a great moveset
How to get Godslayer’s Greatsword:
3. Ruins Greatsword
Two of the best weapons are Gravity weapons
The last 3 weapons are some of the heaviest most oonga boonga weapons in the game. They exist to strike fear into the heart of your opponent by the sheer magnitude of their power. The Ruins Greatsword allows you to launch your enemies up with its amazing Gravity powered Ash of War. It’s akin to Radahn’s Starscourge Greatsword but far more linear.
Being a Colossal Weapon, it definitely suffers from being slow, but it hits like a massive truck, making it one of the most feared weapons in the game. If you see someone using this in PvP, you should be prepared. This weapon is truly amazing when you use jump attacks to deal maximum poise damage upon your enemies.
Ruins Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 50 (B)
- INT - 16 (E)
What Ruins Greatsword excels in:
- Ash of War launches enemies up
- Charged strong attack is unique
- INT scaling rather than DEX
How to get Ruins Greatsword:
2. Starscourge Greatsword
Nothing quite compares to the scream and agony of those caught in the Ash of War
Starscourge Greatsword…I’ve talked in a great deal about my love for potentially my favorite boss in Elden Ring. But let’s talk about this very fearsome weapon of his. Starscourge Greatsword is, in many ways, the most excellent STR weapon. It has everything that one requires from a strong STR weapon: Great damage, great Ash of War, great speed, and great range.
What sets it apart from other weapons is its ability to deal even more damage to Gravity-type enemies. A whopping 30% more, which is amazing against Astels and Fallingstar Beasts. The Ash of War: Starcaller Cry, allows you to pull in enemies closer and then punish them with an amazing slam that will leave them stunned and destroyed.
Starscourge Greatsword Stats:
- STR - 38 (D)
- DEX - 12 (D)
- INT - 15 (E)
What Starscourge Greatsword excels in:
- Clearing out huge mobs of enemies
- Massive damage
- Don’t need two of them
How to get Starscourge Greatsword:
1. Giant Crusher
When Life gives you Hammers…
Giant Crusher is quite possibly the best STR weapon in the game. There’s a very firm reasoning for why I didn’t give it to the Starscourge Greatsword and that’s because it heavily out scales it. For starters, Giant Crusher is a complete focus on STR. No need to invest in any other stats. But its true potential begins to shine when you dual-wield it.
Take two of these bad boys, apply some buffs, and watch as the enemy’s health bar simply disappears. I’m not kidding. These are the menaces that people use in one-shot builds (excluding Comet Azur). This weapon is so strong, you can just keep jump-attacking enemies to lock them in an infinite stunlock. This weapon is the purest more raw definition of Strength and I love it.
Giant Crusher Stats:
- STR - 60 (C)
What Giant Crusher excels in:
- Only needs Strength (lots of it) to be usable
- Has amazingly high damage, making one-shot builds really useful
- Allows you to mow down enemies without much worry
How to get Giant Crusher:
