FIFA 20’s Weekend League is becoming more and more of a rage-inducing, controller-breaking, aneurysm-causing mess as the market floods with overpowered players for the FIFA point-happy masses. So, if you want a gameplay experience with way lower stakes - but equally challenging - how about assembling an all-star Bronze team for fewer coins than it costs to buy Fabinho? Bring back the Bronze Cup in FIFA 21 please, EA!

15. Paul Jaeckel (CDM)

Kicking off here with a man who could be in the running for 'Most Photogenic Footballer 2020'.

Looking to the Germans isn’t the worst thing to do when you’re looking at putting a Bronze team together. Jaeckel would be a fine addition to such a team as the midfield enforcer. Though you’ll want some pacier players around him, he provides a solid pivot between defense and attack.

Jaeckel’s Stat Highlights:

  • 68 Defensive Awareness, 71 Stand Tackle, 67 Slide Tackle.
  • 73 Strength, 63 Interceptions, 66 Heading Accuracy.
  • 60 Agility, 61 Reactions, 63 Aggression.

What Makes Jaeckel Amazing:

  • A very handy 6’2” for a CDM.
  • Fine and well-rounded Defending and Physical attributes.
  • A bargain at 200 coins.

14. Laurent Walthert (GK)

Look at my card, guys. Isn't it good?!

Goalkeepers, for the most part, are copy/paste jobs in the Gold tier of FIFA. However, when it comes to the Bronze class you can find yourself some wildly different keepers in terms of quality. Walthert boasts decent Jumping, Passing, and Strength along with good Speed and balanced base stats that are mighty impressive for his overall rating.

Walthart’s Stat Highlights:

  • 67 Diving, 66 Reflexes.
  • 61 Handling, 62 Kicking.
  • 44 Speed, 65 Positioning.

What Makes Walthert Amazing:

  • 63 Strength and 64 Jumping make him favorite for crosses.
  • His Speed is excellent for a Bronze keeper.
  • The rest of his face card stats are fantastically balanced.

13. Richard Foster (RB)

Potential post-football career: stand-in for any member of Biffy Clyro.

With 70+ ratings in Pace and Physical, Foster is one of the more dependable Bronze defenders in the game. You can certainly build a decent SPL Bronze team in FIFA 20, and Foster has to be the choice for the RB/RWB role.

Foster’s Stat Highlights:

  • 80 Jumping, 76 Stamina, 74 Aggression.
  • 81 Agility, 77 Balance, 61 Stand Tackle.
  • 77 Acceleration, 78 Sprint Speed.

What Makes Foster Amazing:

  • High/medium work rates make him ideal in a wing-back slot.
  • His high Agility is a rarity in Bronze defenders.
  • Quick, strong, and aggressive: everything you want in a full-back.

12. Patrick Burger (ST)

Burger seems to be the type of person with one photo expression, and one only.

Burger does not have the most excellent name on this list, which might surprise you. However, he does provide you with a monster of a center-forward that can be the target man you need in your Bronze side.

Burger’s Stat Highlights:

  • 67 Positioning, 70 Shot Power, 71 Heading Accuracy.
  • 73 Jumping, 85 Stamina, 88 Strength.
  • 67 Agility, 67 Balance, 66 Composure.

What Makes Burger Amazing:

  • That Strength and Stamina combined with a 6’2” frame.
  • Huge Physical, with decent Shooting and Dribbling stats as a backup.
  • A different kind of striker that can link in the quicker players in your team. Sometimes crazy pace isn’t everything!

11. Liam Ridehalgh (LB)

Just posing for my stadium statue, nobody kick the ball away!

There seem to be a lot of really nice LB options in the Bronze tier of the FUTiverse. Ridehalgh has a lovely, well-rounded card that will be a solid addition to your defense. England is probably the best nation to be looking at when choosing Bronze players.

Ridehalgh’s Stat Highlights:

  • 72 Acceleration, 73 Sprint Speed.
  • 69 Agility, 74 Balance, 61 Dribbling.
  • 72 Jumping, 76 Stamina, 62 Stand Tackle.

What Makes Ridehalgh Amazing:

  • He’s English. There are so many good Bronzes to link him to, as we’ll find out soon.
  • Really consistent in Pace, Dribbling, Defending, and Physical.
  • 5’10” is a nice height for a full-back, and doesn’t slow him down at all.

10. Soo Beom Kim (LB)

A great Bronze FIFA player, but how good does that Perth Glory kit look?!

Left-back number two! A very similar card to the previous entry, but with a few key differences that boost this one up a spot. Kim might not have the killer links that Ridehalgh can offer, but he does have one feature that not many defenders can boast…

Kim’s Stat Highlights:

  • 77 Acceleration, 78 Sprint Speed, 79 Jumping.
  • 80 Agility, 87 Balance, 65 Dribbling.
  • 64 Stand Tackle, 73 Stamina, 62 Ball Control.

What Makes Kim Amazing:

  • That feature I referenced? A five-star weak foot!
  • Very nice Agility and Balance are the obvious standouts, but…
  • His Pace, Passing, Dribbling, Defending and Physical stats are all rather lovely.

9. Patrick Pflucke (CAM)

Not the worst opponent to be pictured running past...

Xbox and PC owners rejoice with this card. You can still pick up Pflucke for 200 coins on those platforms, whereas suckers like me will have to fork out around 2k on PS4. Even then, it’s not necessarily a waste of money if you want the best of the Bronzes.

Pflucke’s Stat Highlights:

  • 81 Acceleration, 76 Sprint Speed, 60 Shot Power.
  • 60 Long Shots, 65 Short Passing, 67 Ball Control.
  • 85 Agility, 89 Balance, 70 Dribbling.

What Makes Pflucke Amazing:

  • Four-star weak foot, great for CAM.
  • Excellent Pace for CAM.
  • Top Agility, Balance, and overall dribbling… beautiful for a CAM. Good thing he’s a CAM, huh?

8. Hayden White (RWB)

Who would have thought England's fourth tier would be getting this much love on a FIFA 20 article in June?

Alright, we’re getting into the part of the list where that most meta of attributes makes its mark. Yes, White is blessed with over 90 Pace. When you’re looking at Bronze players with overall lesser stats, being rapid is a huge advantage.

White’s Stat Highlights:

  • 91 Acceleration, 92 Sprint Speed.
  • 70 Agility, 61 Balance, 61 Dribbling.
  • 71 Jumping, 73 Stamina, 67 Strength.

What Makes White Amazing:

  • That pace!
  • 6’1” for a right wing-back with that speed makes him an absolute force.
  • That pace, again! Also, high/medium work rates suit him to a five-back or even playing as a midfielder in-game.

7. Lee Martin (CAM)

Until writing this article I had no idea that Martin was still going, over a decade after leaving Manchester United!

If you thought the English players from League Two were done with, then prepare yourself. Arguably the best league for Bronzes in the game brings us an excellent CAM that will slot in perfectly with three players we’ll see very shortly…

Martin’s Stat Highlights:

  • 70 Acceleration, 73 Sprint Speed, 64 Shot Power.
  • 64 Vision, 64 Short Passing, 74 Agility.
  • 67 Balance, 77 Stamina, 64 Ball Control.

What Makes Martin Amazing:

  • Phenomenally balanced stats, with the exception of Defending, which is pointless for him anyway.
  • The four-star weak foot is a welcome addition.
  • High/medium work rates, spot-on height at 5’11”, and that dream Bronze league and nation link.

6. Alexander Stolas (LB)

In progress above: Either a tackle gone very wrong or a goal gone very right.

Have one more left-back before we get into the top five; why not? In all honesty, Stolas can be used anywhere up that left side in-game and makes for a fabulous super-sub. He’s that well-rounded, especially for a Bronze card.

Stolas’ Stat Highlights:

  • 69 Acceleration, 70 Sprint Speed, 84 Shot Power.
  • 75 Agility, 68 Dribbling, 66 Ball Control.
  • 63 Stand Tackle, 76 Jumping, 76 Stamina.

What Makes Stolas Amazing:

  • Another big fullback at 6’0”.
  • Every base stat is above 65, except for Defending… Fortunately, his tackling is the high point there.
  • High/medium work rates are just another reason to play him further upfield.

5. Oswal Alvarez (ST)

Leading the cheer train!

As a striker, it may appear on the surface as if Alvarez’ Shooting is a bit of a letdown. However, his Finishing and Shot Power are the top performers in that category, with Penalties being the one dragging the overall down, so don’t fret about it.

Alvarez’ Stat Highlights:

  • 83 Acceleration, 80 Sprint Speed, 80 Jumping.
  • 70 Ball Control, 68 Dribbling, 69 Agility.
  • 79 Strength, 62 Finishing, 64 Balance.

What Makes Alvarez Amazing:

  • Four-star weak foot.
  • Good Pace, with nice Jumping and Strength to go with his 5’10”.
  • Like his Shooting, Alvarez’ Passing is dragged down by relatively meaningless attributes. His Short Passing and Vision are decent, and that’s all you need.

4. Toni Lindenhahn (CB)

So many questions. I'm as lost for words with this picture as you are, honestly.

With 91 Stamina, Lindenhahn is going to keep pace with the game from the first minute to the last. He’s got Agility and Balance to rival a good many Gold CBs and makes for a decent performer in nearly every position in-game.

Lindenhahn’s Stat Highlights:

  • 74 Acceleration, 76 Sprint Speed, 72 Shot Power (but why?).
  • 83 Agility, 87 Balance, 91 Stamina.
  • 66 Reactions, 65 Ball Control, 67 Dribbling.

What Makes Lindenhahn Amazing:

  • Fantastic Agility and Balance with that beastly Stamina.
  • Three-star/three-star is not bad for a CB that can throw some sick stepovers in their own box. What’s life without a bit of risk?
  • Good Pace and Physicals backed up with near-identical Shooting (for some reason), Passing, and Defending, with even better Dribbling than those three.

3. Zeli Ismail (RM)

Full marks for the Bronze checklist: English, fast, agile.

A tall, skillful, quick, English winger. Do I need to say more? Yes? Fine. Ismail has got all of the tools to be a real asset in your Bronze Ultimate Team. His work rates, skill moves, and weak foot combine to make him a star at this level.

Ismali’s Stat Highlights:

  • 87 Acceleration, 90 Sprint Speed, 63 Shot Power.
  • 83 Agility, 73 Balance, 75 Stamina.
  • 64 Ball Control, 66 Dribbling, 60 Strength.

What Makes Ismail Amazing:

  • Four-star skills, five-star weak foot. A rarity in the Bronze category, and welcome here.
  • High/medium work rates are perfect for his position.
  • He’s got the English/EFL League Two links that you can exploit for days to get those sweet, sweet green links.

2. Yasin Ben El-Mhanni (LM)

The most unique of Bronze cards for one reason only: the ability to stun higher-rated defenders with tricks.

I accept that having a 58-rated card as my number two pick might be a little eyebrow-raising, but put those eyebrows down my friends: there is some method behind my madness. I mean, most of the time, anyway.

El-Mhanni’s Stat Highlights:

  • 78 Acceleration, 74 Sprint Speed.
  • 80 Agility, 83 Balance.
  • 65 Ball Control, 69 Dribbling, 67 Composure.

What Makes El-Mhanni Amazing.

  • He’s the only bronze card in the game to have five-star skills, and backing that up is a four-star weak foot!
  • His lower rating still leaves room for decent Pace, Agility, and Balance.
  • Not to mention that same English/EFL League Two link as Ismali. You’ve got two quality wingers here. Now, who to put between them...

1. Elliott List (ST)

You'll have a hard job finding Gold strikers with the speed of this guy.

My English top three double as a tasty attacking trident for those fans of the fourth tier of English football (myself included, as my hometown Carlisle United are perpetual mid-table finishers). Anyway, this is the guy you want leading your shiny Bronze line.

List’s Stat Highlights:

  • 95 Acceleration, 93 Sprint Speed.
  • 75 Shot Power, 60 Finishing, 73 Agility.
  • 80 Balance, 76 Jumping, 75 Stamina.

What Makes List Amazing:

  • He’s the fastest Bronze ST in the game.
  • High Shot Power and generally decent Dribbling and Physicals make him a menace for defenders.
  • Three-star/three-star is fine, especially if you have those two wingers either side.
  • Also, his name is List, and he tops my list! That literally just dropped as I wrote that last point...
