Now if a game isn’t fun there is no point in playing it. Am I right or am I right? And that is something that every single game developer knows. So what they do is try to add as many gameplay features as humanly possible to make the game more fun and to attract more scrubs to dominate.
Some game developers will add a ton of cosmetics that you can buy while some will add different game features that change up the game. Of course, these can be either a hit or a miss. Today I’ll be talking about the most fun gameplay features that Insurgency: Sandstorm has. So with that let’s get into it.
10. Sound Design
The sound design of this game gives me an eargasm.
Now, it’s not a secret that Insurgency: Sandstorm has some of the best sound designs when it comes to tactical shooters. You can even hear the enemy team communicating if they are talking on the microphone. Sometimes you can hear the wildest conversations between people, and it’s always a fun time.
Additionally, the gun sounds are just perfect and have a great kick behind them. Especially if you’re shooting a higher caliber gun, the sound is there to back it up, which makes it even more badass to use. But the best part of the sound design has to be the A10 Warthog sound when someone calls it in.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- It’s the fact that you can hear everything around you. The weapon sounds are beautiful and have a nasty kick to them. They sound really powerful. Same with the A10 Warthog that I just described. And it’s also great that you can hear the enemy team communicating with each other.
9. Different Classes
Each class is unique and has its unique weapons.
The game has different classes that you can choose from depending on the map or what your current objective is. Each class is unique and has its learning curve. Of course, you can always just pick up a gun and rush into battle like a madman but don’t expect it to work out.
If you want the best chances of winning, you should learn what your class does best and do that job. Each class has unique weapons tied to it, and all of those weapons are unique. You will never get the feeling that you’re using the same weapon with a different model.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- Since each class is unique, they have a different job that specializes in that area. For example, if you’re using the demolitionist class, you can be great at clearing out buildings with C4, or you can use your rocket launcher to eliminate large groups of enemies or the enemy support helicopter they just called in. If you do your job correctly, you can easily increase your chances of winning.
8. Level and Ranking System
There is a high number next to my name.
Now, you might think that this one isn’t anything special, as it’s just a number next to your name which, in the long run, can’t mean anything, but what it does give is a sense of progression. Some players who don’t get the sense of progression in a game might not even enjoy playing it.
I am one of those players, and I know that having this system in the game just makes it more fun and interactive. Additionally, each time you level up, you get some in-game credits, which you can spend to buy cosmetics and look fancy, you also get a free cosmetic when you level up which is kinda poggers.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- It gives a sense of progression in the game, and each time that you level up, you get some in-game credits, which you can spend to buy some cosmetics and a free random item that you can use.
7. Driving System
It’s time to run over some scrubs.
Believe it or not, there is only one drivable vehicle in the game, and it’s a technical pick-up truck. You can only get this truck on some big, open maps, and it’s best used to support your teammates or to create some chokepoints.
Now, it can be a bit tricky to use this vehicle if you’re not communicating with your teammates, so it’s best used when playing with friends. Also, when driving, keep a lookout on the road, as there might be some mines placed. Additionally, don’t drive straight into the enemy and use buildings as much as possible as your cover.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- If you get yourself a friend and you can communicate well with each other, using this pickup truck can be damn fun. The pick-up truck has a large machine gun in the back that can obliterate whole squads in seconds, which you can never get bored of.
6. Weapon Recoil
Every weapon has a unique recoil pattern.
Every single weapon in the game has a recoil pattern that can be eliminated with weapon attachments, or you don’t have to use weapon attachments if you’re a God at controlling it. The recoil of the weapon also depends on the caliber that your gun is using. The higher the caliber, the stronger the recoil, and vice versa.
Some weapons have completely 0 vertical recoil, like the Vector. Now, the fun part about this is learning how to control the recoil, and once you do, it can feel pretty damn amazing. Especially if you’re a pro at using that weapon and can kill anyone with 0 attachments on the gun.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- Every weapon in the game has a unique recoil attached to it. The recoil of the gun depends on how big the caliber is, and some weapons in the game have 0 vertical recoil, like the Vector. Learning the weapon’s recoil and mastering it like an absolute pro can feel pretty damn fulfilling.
5. Unique Game Events
Why do these events have to be on a rotation?
If you ever get tired of playing the same game mode in the game, there are custom events that the developers have made. These events are on a rotation, and they can last up to two weeks. Some events are tied to holidays like Christmas or Halloween and only come around once a year.
So once these events do come, you should play them as much as possible, plus they always spice up the game in different ways. These events bring so much fun to the game, and they can always bring some fun for you.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- These events last up to two weeks and can bring so much fun to the game, especially if you’re getting bored of it. Many different events in the game come around every two weeks and some are tied specifically to holidays like Christmas and Halloween.
4. Minimalistic Hud
The hud feels so clean and immersive.
If you’re tired of cluttered huds and huge numbers on the screen, this game can feel quite refreshing. The minimalistic hud doesn’t give you a lot of information and doesn’t clutter your screen at all. The most fun part about it is that you can disable it if you want.
Another fun part about the hud being minimalistic is that you’ll have to rely on your gaming instincts to know if an enemy is nearby, where the objective is, how much ammo you have in your magazine, and so on.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- Having a minimalistic hud or completely disabling it can increase the learning curve of the game. Which makes it more fun in the long run. Not having constant numbers pop up on your screen that shows you damage numbers, your HP, your ammo count, and so on can be pretty damn refreshing.
3. PvE Content
There are so many bots rushing me.
If you don’t like playing against players all the time and you want to relax a bit and chill, you can always load up on some good ol’ PvE matches. Where you’ll be playing with other people against bots. There are a ton of different maps to choose from and different game modes to pick from, all of which have their unique night version.
Not only that but there are no weapon restrictions between classes, and you can choose any weapon you want. Additionally, the bots are damn smart and hard to play against, so they will give you some challenge, and it won’t be a breeze.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- If you don’t want to sweat your body off playing against real players or you just want to chill, you can load up for a PvE match. The bots can be difficult to deal with, but with the right people and the right communication, it can be pretty damn fun. Along with that, the PvE content has a unique game mode tied to it, along with night maps. Which can be fun to play. It’s also great for farming XP.
2. Immersive and Realistic Gameplay
This game can be immersive especially, if you turn off some settings.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is one of the most immersive tactical shooters that I have played in recent years. It’s not challenging and confusing like Arma 3, and it doesn’t require you to finish the army to know how to play it. While playing, you’ll never be taken out of the game, as it brings your immersion to a whole new level.
The matches are short, the weapons feel and look realistic, and the cosmetics that you can buy are something that an actual soldier would wear. If you’re someone who gets into a game like you’re there, this game will bring you to an actual urban environment.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- The immersion of the game can bring heaps of fun. From the realistic looks and sounds of the weapons to the cosmetics being in line with what an actual soldier would wear. Plus the gameplay feels pretty realistic and you can’t just rush in and shoot like you would in Call of Duty.
1. In-Depth Weapon Customization
You can attach so many things to your weapons.
The coolest and most fun thing in the game is customizing your guns and making them to your liking. You can turn a simple AK-74 into a deadly battle rifle to snipe people from a distance, or you can make the ultimate SMG that has absolutely no recoil. The world is your oyster, my friend.
You can create a pistol that can shoot through a building, or you can create something that fires 800 rounds per minute. The weapon customization in the game is really deep, and it allows you to create anything you want. The only thing that’s stopping you is your imagination.
What’s so cool and fun about it:
- You can add a ton of attachments to your guns and make them have almost no recoil. You can add whatever you want to the gun; there are no restrictions whatsoever. The only thing that can stop you is your imagination.
