The Manaform Hellkite terrorizing both the sky and the seas

Brawl is a format that thrives on the creativity of deck brewers which allows the format to be very diverse in terms of commander choices. It is then a really difficult and daunting task to rank the best Brawl decks of the current patch. We tried, however, to compile a list of some of the strongest decks that you can use in Brawl today.

12. Tovolar, Dire Overlord

A Wolf/Werewolf tribal deck, Tovolar, Dire Overlord, aims to overwhelm the opponent with high-powered attackers with trample. This deck has a variety of ways to utilize the number of Wolves and Werewolves on the battlefield.

What this deck excels in:

  • Some creatures have the ability to gain +1/+1 counters as long as there are Wolves or Werewolves on the battlefield. This means that a 1/1 Packsong Pup becomes progressively stronger as the game progresses
  • Early game ramp offered by Kessig Naturalist means you can cast big creatures early, further increasing your advantage on the board
  • Aside from running over your opponent, there are also some fun ways to win the game such as Runebound Wolf dealing damage to the opponent equal to the number of Wolves and Werewolves on the battlefield

  • Commander: Tovolar, Dire Overlord

This Blue-Green deck can be considered as a Land Tribal deck as the commander itself enables this strategy. With the abundance of lands, you can mount a surprise attack on an unsuspecting opponent using your lands. If that strategy does not work, you always have your big creatures to deal the final blow.

What this deck excels in:

  • This deck uses a ramp mechanic to bring in a lot of lands in the early game. This serves the deck two purposes: enabling an attack using just the lands and being able to cast big creature spells early on
  • Great beatdown potential. This deck can beat down the opponent either through the use of its lands or with its big creatures. One way or the other, the game will usually end through an overwhelming attack from your side of the board

What this deck excels in:

  • Ramp elements means that you can cast your spells at a faster rate compared to the opponent
  • Fast snowball potential ensures that you can dish out high levels of damage even before the opponent has the chance to cast blockers. This also puts them in the back foot majority of the game

A classic burn deck means you get to throw fireballs at any threat that the opponent produces and if there are no more threats on the board, you can simply cast these burn spells and target them towards the opponent. This deck is pretty powerful since it has a lot of enablers in the creature list.

What this deck excels in:

  • Great deck against any archetype since your focus will mostly be on removing looming threats and slinging spells at your opponent’s face
  • Lots of cheap spells ensures that the opponent will not have the advantage of speed against you
  • Opponents will also have to worry about the enchantments and artifacts on this deck, despite only being three, since these are also sources of damage that can pile up in an instant

7. Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

Any card that can give out discounts on the mana costs of spells is always a huge advantage especially in a format like Brawl. Hinata, Dawn-Crowned, does just that and what’s more exciting is that it has a collar identity of Jeskai (Blue-Red-White) which means that it is a control deck.

What this deck excels in:

  • Typically, control decks have pretty expensive counter spells which is the reason some early threats cannot be dealt with easily. With this commander, you will be able to cast counter spells and other spells more comfortably due to its discount
  • All cards in this deck has the keyword ‘target’ which means they are all under the coverage of Hinata, giving you a huge mana advantage when casting spells
  • Big spells means that you are a threat at the later stages of the game. Combine that with your counter spells and removal spells that can help secure the early game for you, then you have a really strong and intimidating deck

What this deck excels in:

  • It is a bit easier to fend off the opponent’s initiative with the plethora of removal spells, counter spells, and card manipulation spells that this deck has

What this deck excels in:
