Animal Crossing: New Horizons Best Fruit

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Best Fruit
I’ve learned to accept that orchards take up half of my island.

There are many different things you can do with fruit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Eating a piece of fruit will give you the power to use your shovel to dig up a full-size tree or smash a rock to pieces. Don’t worry if you accidentally destroy a rock on your island, it will re-spawn in a new open area. If you chop down a tree, you will have to plant a sapling if you want another tree to grow in the same spot.

Obtaining fruit trees is easy because the trees grow from fruit instead of a sapling. With a shovel and a piece of fruit, you can grow another fruit tree.

There are six different types of fruit in New Horizons: apples, peaches, pears, cherries, oranges, and coconuts.

Since fruit trees spawn three pieces of fruit, except for coconut trees that spawn only two, you will be able to plant a whole orchard in no time.

Be aware, however, that once you shake a fruit tree, it usually takes at least three days for the fruit to grow back. If you are starting from scratch, it takes four days for a fruit tree to bear fruit after being planted.

One way around this long waiting period is to eat a piece of fruit on a Mystery or Multiplayer island, and dig up a fully grown fruit tree. Digging the tree up keeps it intact and places it in your inventory so you can take it back to your own island and plant it.

If you are doing this on another player’s island, be sure to ask for the hosts permission first! People don’t like it when you just go shaking or digging up their trees without asking.

Visiting other players’ islands and Mystery islands is also how you obtain different fruits for your island.

When you first start out, there is one type of fruit for sale at Nook’s Cranny, and this is your island’s “native” fruit. When you visit Mystery islands you have a chance to get one different type of fruit, known as your “sister” fruit. Mystery islands will only ever have native and sister fruit, in addition to coconuts.

If you want to collect the other 3 types of fruits, you will have to visit other players’ islands. Their native fruit is always for sale at Nook’s.

If you eat a lot of fruit and you need to chop a tree without completely cutting it down, you will need to sit on a toilet. Yep, that’s right. Sitting on a toilet brings your strength meter back down to nothing, and offers some funny dialogue.

While all of the fruits function the same way, what really makes some fruits shine is their available DIY recipes. Each fruit offers a variety of furniture and clothing, but some items are a lot more interesting than others.

Without further ado, here are the six fruits of Animal Crossing: New Horizons ranked from worst to best DIY recipes.

6. Oranges

Orange you glad to see this room?

The orange doesn’t offer much when it comes to a variety of DIY recipes.

The bright orange color of the wallpaper can be jarring for some people.

You do get some sort of variety in the Orange Table and the Orange Clock DIYs, because you are able to customize those two items to be either the regular orange color or a redder blood orange color.

The items in this collection aren’t going to knock your socks off, but they coordinate well with other pieces in the fruity DIY series.

What’s great about the orange:

  • Realistic details on the orange table DIY.
  • DIYs made with oranges go well with other fruit DIY items.

How to get the orange:

  • Purchase in Nook’s Cranny if it is your island’s native fruit.
  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.
  • Receive in a letter from Mom if it is your island’s sister fruit.

5. Pears

What will you dream about when you sleep in a pear bed?

The humble pear offers a little more than the orange when it comes to furniture DIYs.

Along with the usual options of a dress, umbrella, and rug, you can also choose to craft a functioning Pear Wardrobe, and a Pear Bed.

Use the wardrobe to change your outfit, and take a nap in the bed if you want to visit Luna and explore a Dream Island.

With the pear DIYs, you can also customize the color of both the wardrobe and the bed between the normal green pear color and a yellow French pear color.

What’s great about the pear:

  • Offers DIYs for fruity bedroom furniture.
  • Has both a functioning wardrobe and bed DIY.
  • Can customize the color of the wardrobe and bed to either green or yellow.

How to get the pear:

  • Purchase in Nook’s Cranny if it is your island’s native fruit.
  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.
  • Receive in a letter from Mom if it is your island’s sister fruit.

4. Cherries

That cherry hat is a bit unflattering.

Other than the ridiculous Cherry Hat DIY, the cherry has a couple of neat recipes you can make.

One of my favorite fruit items is the Cherry Speakers DIY, which you can customize to either regular cherry or black cherry. It offers better sound than the radio or turntable, and it adds instant coolness to any room.

Another great cherry DIY is the Cherry Wall Lamp, which is also customizable to either regular cherry or black cherry. The lamp casts a cool red glow when all of the other lights in the room are off.

The Cherry Wallpaper is also more pleasant to look at than other fruit wallpapers (I’m looking at you, orange) and it is easier to coordinate other pieces into the décor.

The cherry DIYs would also be great in a vintage-themed room with the red diner furniture.

What’s great about the cherry:

  • The Cherry Wall Lamp DIY puts the finishing touch on any retro-style room.
  • The Cherry Speaker DIY not only sounds great, but it is available in two colors.
  • The Cherry Hat DIY is great for a laugh.

How to get the cherry:

  • Purchase in Nook’s Cranny if it is your island’s native fruit.
  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.
  • Receive in a letter from Mom if it is your island’s sister fruit.

3. Peaches

The peach surprise box is definitely surprising.

Peach DIYs offer a nice pastel range of furniture and clothing.

The Peach Dress DIY is one of the most flattering pieces in the fruit clothing collection.

The Peach Chair DIY is one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the game, and it is also customizable between the normal pinkish color and a pale yellow with a bright orange pit.

The Peach Surprise Box DIY is also customizable in color, but both variations offer the same surprise in the form of a baby that springs out and cries when you interact with the box. This piece of furniture is very similar to the Tulip Surprise Box DIY, which features a princess instead of a baby for the surprise.

Peach DIYs are probably among the most subdued of the fruit DIY furniture aside from the pear.

What’s great about the peach:

  • The Peach Chair DIY is one of the nicer looking chair DIYs in the game.
  • The Peach Surprise Box DIY adds a fun touch to any room.
  • The Peach Dress is the most flattering piece of fruit clothing.

How to get the peach:

  • Purchase in Nook’s Cranny if it is your island’s native fruit.
  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.
  • Receive in a letter from Mom if it is your island’s sister fruit.

2. Coconuts

Livin’ the dream.

The coconut is pretty easy to acquire because there are usually coconut trees on every beach at a Mystery island.

By far, one of the coolest DIYs in the game is the Palm Tree Lamp, which is made with coconuts as one of the ingredients. The lamp comes in 4 different colors ranging from natural to bright blue or pink.

The Palm Tree Lamps add a really cool touch to outdoor or indoor beach scenes, especially at night or with the lights off.

Coconuts are also used to make a tropical-looking Coconut Drink that is perfect for hanging out at the beach or the pool. The drink adds a laid-back vibe to any scene.

The Coconut Planters are also a really nice décor DIY, and they add a touch of greenery to any room without taking up any floor space.

What’s great about the coconut:

  • Coconuts are easily obtainable through visiting any Mystery island.
  • The coolest-looking lamp in the game is made using coconuts.
  • You can use the Coconut Drink DIY to add a tropical vibe anywhere.

How to obtain the coconut:

  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.

1. Apples

Who wouldn’t be excited about an apple T.V.?

The apple is my favorite fruit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and I was lucky enough to find it on a Mystery island as my island’s sister fruit.

The reason the apple is my favorite fruit in the game is because it is used to make the Juicy Apple Television DIY.

When I saw this T.V. for the first time, I couldn’t wait to find the DIY for it.

The Apple Chair DIY, much like the Peach Chair, is very stylish and fits in with all types of décor from playful to formal.

Both the chair and television are customizable to be either red or green in color, and they add a bit of cheerfulness to any room.

The Apple Wallpaper, with its greenish-blue background topped with bright red apples, is a little more difficult to color coordinate with, but it’s a lot of fun to experiment with.

What’s great about the apple:

  • It’s used to make one of the coolest DIYs in the game, the Juicy Apple Television.
  • The Apple Chair is a simple DIY project that adds a pop of color to any room.

How to get the apple:

  • Purchase in Nook’s Cranny if it is your island’s native fruit.
  • Find on Mystery islands or other players’ islands.
  • Receive in a letter from Mom if it is your island’s sister fruit.
