[Top 5] DOS2 Best Builds for Red Prince

DOS2 Best Builds for Red Prince , Divinity: Original Sin 2 Best Builds for Red Prince
One day you're dabbling in devilry, the next you're delving into dungeons.

DOS2's Red Prince is another striking character with a big personality, and these class options will see you get the most out of him as a party member.

Divinity; Original Sin 2 offers a wide variety of classes and even broader possibilities. Free and open class building with tons of skill and ability combinations, and the ability to re-spec create a uniquely liberating yet overwhelming gaming experience for new players. While your class may grow and change over time, you're still called upon to pick one of the 14 preset classes for not only your own character but up to 3 companions.

The Red Prince is one of your best choices for a companion due to his affinity for frontline, tanky, melee classes. Every party in every RPG, no matter how open and creative, still revolves around the bread-and-butter melee defender. Here is your guide to the best class options for the Red Prince as a character as well as the best ways to subvert and experiment with his unique talents.

5. Fighter

The fighter is inherently less basic as a lizard.

Red's default class is certainly one to contend with. The Fighter is a hearty combination of Strength-based Warfare abilities and Geomancer proficiency with earth spells. Fighter builds prioritize Constitution and Strength making them great for one-handed weapon and shield combinations.

The Fighter's hybrid physical/magical damage output creates some interesting synergies, especially with Lizards like the Red Prince. Slow your enemies' escape with oil surfaces from spells like Fossil Strike and crash into melee range with Battering Ram. Top it all off with the Red Prince's racial ability, Dragon's Blaze, to capitalize on the explosive nature of your oil and poison traps.

The Fighter Excels at;

  • Frontline melee with an emphasis on defense.
  • Physical armor buffing abilities thanks to Geo spells
  • Combat Abilities; Warfare, Geomancer
  • Civil Ability; Bartering
  • Attributes; Strength, Constitution

4. Metamorph

Why be just a lizard when you can be a bull, spider, snake, bird lizard?

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Metamorph. Another melee-happy build that prefers large two-handed weapons but does not limit you to them. This unique class includes levels in Polymorph, giving you access to a variety of animal influenced spells, buffs, and battlefield manipulation spells.

The Metamorph is an offensive jack-of-all-trades with the freedom to wield any weapon thanks to points in both Strength and Finesse. Polymorph spells offer unique options for defending yourself favoring invisibility, magical defense buffs, movement abilities, and status effects over your typical tank build's affinity for Constitution or heavy armor. However, this open-ended class doesn't take those options from you either.

The Metamorph Excels at;

  • Moving quick, hitting hard, and finding creative solutions in combat
  • Experimenting with any weapons and armor to find what suits you
  • Combat Abilities; Polymorph, Two-Handed
  • Civil Ability; Persuasion
  • Attributes; Strength, Finesse

3. Knight

Now THAT'S a knife.

The Knight provides a more traditional look at the Strength-based melee specialist. Where the Metamorph is about experimentation, the Knight specializes in the biggest weapons and hitting as hard as possible with them. Consider the Knight for an uncomplicated approach to wielding the best weapons and armor the game has to offer.

Red is the ideal frontman of your party due to the short-range of his unique skills like Dragon's Blaze, and race-specific resistances. The Knight prioritizes Strength as opposed to the Fighter's extra point in Constitution. Combine Warfare skills with the pure damage scaling of the Two-Handed combat skill for an unstoppable Knight.

The Knight Excels at;

  • Strength-based melee combat
  • Pointed specialization in melee to deal the most damage possible
  • Combat Abilities; Warfare, Two-Handed
  • Civil Ability; Bartering
  • Attributes; Strength, Constitution

2. Wizard

That's... a Sim's plumbob in your wand there, sir.

The Wizard is a casting class specializing in Pyrokinetic and Geomancer spells. This option trades martial ability for devastating long-range fire and earth spells. The Wizard commands the terrain of the battlefield by creating choke points, herding enemies, and dissolving armor with status effects.

Departing from the heavy-hitters, Lizards also make excellent wizards. The Lizard racial ability Sophisticated grants 10% resistance to fire and poison, protecting your lizard wizard from the unsavory effects of their own spells. Pair this with Elemental Affinity to grant damage boosts to your spells when standing in the oil, poison, or fire you've created.

The Wizard Excels at;

  • Powerful, ranged, elemental spells
  • Creating chaos that you can resist or even benefit from.
  • Combat Abilities; Pyrokinetic, Geomancer
  • Civil Ability; Loremaster
  • Attributes; Intelligence, Constitution

1. Battlemage

Play to all your strengths.

The Battlemage is the perfect balance of melee and magic. Confront any enemy well-equipped to exploit their weaknesses with proficiency in both physical and magical damage. The Battlemage starts with proficiency in Warfare and Aerothurge abilities, accessing lightning-quick spells and movement abilities.

Red's synergy with strength-based combat and elemental magic make Battlemage a no-brainer if you want the best of both worlds. Consider this build with points in Pyro or Geo in place of Aero or put a couple of points in all three for an Elementalist battlemage. You could even throw in Hydro for ice spells, healing, and magic defense boosts.

The Battlemage Excels at;

  • Balanced physical and magical damage output and defense.
  • Unique class customization through elemental combinations and specialties.
  • Combat Abilities; Warfare, Aerothurge
  • Civil Ability; Persuasion
  • Attributes; Strength, Intelligence, Constitution

Battlemage Details

The Red Prince is a solid and charismatic addition to any party. Companion or main; melee, magical, or both, the DOS2 Lizard race has a fascinating design and deep lore connection to the world. However you choose to build your party, have fun and happy adventuring!
