A good tank and DPS always prepare at least some potion on their inventory!
On earlier [Savage] raids or [Extreme] trials, healing can be so tight, putting healers in a rock and a hard place for doing both mechanics and keeping everyone alive. This is why tanks and DPS could use the help of some additional healing potion on such raids and trials in their inventory! Now, what are the best potions to carry? Well, it depends on its re-casting time and how many percent of the HP is healed. Why does re-casting time matter? It will follow the re-cast time of the last potion you use. Because all potions share re-cast time, you cannot use multiple potions with different re-cast times to top up your HP. Now, here are some of my favorite potions, considering how fast they are to be reused and their effectiveness!
5. Hi-Elixir
This special blend of herbal extracts and aetheric essence rejuvenates body and mind, instantly restoring HP and MP.
Hi-Elixir is an excellent potion to bring if you are a caster. It recovers both HP and MP; the downside of Hi-Elixir is its long re-cast time. The normal quality can be found dropped on these raids; The Binding Coil of Bahamut Turn 1, The Binding Coil of Bahamut Turn 3, The Second Coil of Bahamut Turn 3, and The Second Coil of Bahamut Turn 3 [Savage]. They are also craftable and available on the Market Board!
The NQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 24% of HP (1920 points max).
- Restores up to 6% of MP (600 points max).
- Re-cast time of 5 minutes.
The HQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 30% of HP (2400 points max).
- Restores up to 8% of MP (800 points max).
- Re-cast time of 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
4. Onyx Tears
This fragrant fusion of aromatic oils has long been used by the Brass Blades of Ul'dah to instantly rejuvenate both body and mind.
Onyx Tears is the special Grand Company potion issued by the Immortal Flames. This potion is always great to bring, and the downsides are you can only carry on the quantity of this item, plus the long re-cast time. Since Onyx Tears are limited to Immortal Flames only, you can trade this potion once you reach Flame Sergeant Third Class in Flame Grand Company rank and trade it for 2850 grand company seals. There is no HQ for this item.
These are the NQ effects:
- Restores up to 50% of HP (1000 points max).
- Restores up to 8% of MP (800 points max).
- Re-cast time of 5 minutes.
3. Dusken Draught
Powdered coral gives this medicinal concoction the deep amber tone from which it gets its name. It is distributed to members of the Lominsan Armada during battle to provide quick recovery from physical wounds.
Another great potion sadly issued by Grand Company limited to The Maelstrom. Just like Onyx Tears, you can only carry one of this unique potion in your inventory. The re-cast time is short, only 30 seconds, which makes it a great potion to have! You can trade this potion once you reach Storm Sergeant Third Class with 2850 grand company seals. There is also no HQ for this item.
These are the NQ effects:
- Restores up to 50% of HP (1000 points max).
- Re-cast time of 30 seconds.
2. Max-Potion
This spiritous concoction instantly restores a considerable amount of HP.
Max-Potion is a reliable potion if you only need to recover your HP. The re-cast time is relatively quick, and you can carry them as much as your inventory slot allows and recovers a significant amount of HP. You can get this potion for free if you like to go around the Palace of The Death; they drop both HQ and NQ there. This potion is also craftable and available on the Market Board.
The NQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 24% of HP (1920 points max).
- Re-cast time of 1 minute 15 seconds.
The HQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 30% of HP (2400 points max).
- Re-cast time of 1 minute 7 seconds.
1. Super-Potion
This concentrated concoction instantly restores a significant amount of HP.
This is currently the potion that recovers the most HP in Eorzea. The re-cast time is the same as Max-Potion; though the percentage is relatively low, it covers more points than Max-Potion. This potion is craftable and available on Market Board.
The NQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 20% of HP (2880 points max).
- Re-cast time of 1 minute 15 seconds.
The HQ will give you the following effects:
- Restores up to 25% of HP (3600 points max).
- Re-cast time of 1 minute 7 seconds.
Now, Final Fantasy XIV raids and trials require an 8-men team effort. In a brutal battle where healings are very tight, if you can help your healers’ burden just by buying or preparing these potions, I don’t see the reason why not? They are not expensive, easy to make, and handy
