Garry's Mod Best Horror Maps
Cones - why did it have to be cones?

What Are The Best Horror Maps in Garry's Mod?

Did that title terrify you yet? No? … Well, then we might be at an impasse. How about this, let’s get some really creepy content that will to jump right into your face; let's talk about Garry’s Mod’s best horror maps!

Garry’s Mod is a host of great content, but some of its more memorable creations are its horror based content. I am talking about creepy body parts spread all over the map,. pPuzzles that make you humble-s, and of course, jump scares that might make you tear up your chair.

10. The Bunker

The Bunker Map. Which seemed like a great map to play, before the Quarantine.

Let's start with something short, but maybe a little challenging. Most of these maps have a few puzzles, but this one also includes a boss fight. Coming in at only 25 minutes of playtime, The Bunker will give you a good introduction into what you might be stepping into with these upcoming maps.

What's Great About The Bunker:

  • A less complex map, but has the staples of the Garry’s Mod Horror Map genre. Text guiding you, puzzles and jump scares.
  • Boss at the end was interesting to say the least. You wont get any spoilers out of me.
  • Quick and painless map full of puzzles. Make sure you press “E” on everything.

9. Death Gear

The Death Gear map, before, and after my screams gave me a noise complaint.

One of the first maps on this list by creator Emnu; Death Gear is another great start to your Horror maps adventure.  This one can be challenging though, and is a little longer than our first submission. That aside,But, it's another great introduction to what a horror map can be.

What's Great About Death Gear:

  • A rather hard map, with number puzzles and a ton of jump scares.
  • Emnu has created a ton of great maps. He is known in the Horror map scene and knows his way around the map editor and horror storytelling.
  • Great story with some interesting puzzles. Also, a hidden surprise for those who don't die!

8. Lost souls of Igneon

The Lost souls of Igneon map, which ironically, I never got lost on.

The Lost Souls of Igneon is an interesting little play, and is another good introduction into what length creators can go to when creating Garry’s Mod content. A custom story, custom sounds and even some interesting gravity systems. And no, I do not know what a gravity system is.

What's Great About “Lost Souls of Igneon”:

  • Custom everything gives the player a unique experience.
  • A well liked map;, with a part 2 that will complete the story.
  • Story is a nice touch to most Horror maps. This one isn'tisnt just about demons and satan, it'sits also about SPACE!

7. Escape your Dream

The Escape You Dreams map, but with alot less clowns.

Tell Leonardo DiCaprio to move over, because we are going dream hopping. You and up to 6 friends can fight through your dreams to make it back to reality. Unless your reality is already full of anime characters and references, then, congratulations! You already lost.

What is great about “Escape your Dream”:

  • Anime twists for your weeb dreams! This aspect makes this map more memorable and well… likeable.
  • A fun map to play with friends. You can host a server and have up to 6 friends join you in your scare-venture.
  • Puzzles are unique and fun. Nothing that breaks the mold, but worth playing to test your brain!

6. Forgotten Asylum

The Forgotten Asylum map.

Were you thinking “where’s the gore?”. Well, you might need to see a therapist. But Forgotten Asylum might be a good time killer between now and your next brain analysis session. Collect keys and get the heebie-jeebiesheebie-geebies running through this intense map!

What is great about Forgotten Asylum:

  • Tired of not having a collect-a-thon in your horror maps? Collect the keys and see something truly terrifying.
  • Gore and more jump scares await you on this map. But weird sounding sentences might not be.
  • Experience a map that makes the characters from Outlast cringe in horror.

5. Facility Escape

The Facility Escape Map.

Grab your sweater and get down in the dirt withirty in another escape map. Facility Escape is another map with high production values and even custom voice acting! Boasting that it'sits better than Silent Town, another map famous in the Garry’s Mod horror community, and it surely gets close. This map is well rounded and has a nice scare or two.

What is great about Facility Escape:

  • Custom voice actors and a high production value brings this map to the forefront of the horror scene. A decent time for sure!
  • A great solo experience. The creator says it'sits not made to be multiplayer, so don'tdont even try it.
  • Survival elements add a nice change of pace to the standard puzzle and run gameplay.

4.  The Village (part 1)

The Village Part 1 (of many). Seriously, this is a like a 5 part series.

The Village Part 1 is the beginning of the end of this list. Loved as the first of the trilogy, The Village is credited for being a pretty spooky map. I could list everything this map has, but you need to play it to truly understand.

What is great about The Village:

  • The beginning of a slew of maps. Follow the story and watch this creator grow!
  • Medium length map, about 20 to 40 minutes of content.
  • There is no lore for bootman… or is there? … I checked, there is a ton.

3. STAGE 2

The Stage 2 ma, slightly better than stage 0-1.

Now stay with me here: the only way up, is to go down. The creator of Dig Dug would love STAGE 2. A great story, but I am starting to see some recurring themes of escaping in these Garry’s Mod maps. But hey, at least there are checkpoints!

What’s great about STAGE 2:

  • Checkpoints are a great addition to all Horror maps. Don’t @ me.
  • Boss is a fun interaction, terrifying if you are possibly intoxicated.
  • A good amount of challenging content for a medium sized map.

2. Runaway Part 1

The map Runaway, and you will be running.

Runaway is another classic when it comes to Garry’s Mod horror maps. You start as a cop who chased a suspect into a ditch. The words “The more hurt machine” become a thing, and things start to get a little weird.

Wha'ts great about Runaway Part 1:

  • One of the most well received maps with an excellent atmosphere and story.
  • Made a horror story in D.C. that didn't involve politics. Well, not entirely at least.
  • Great with friends and solo. The atmosphere really carries this map, and for a good reason.

1. Horrorween

Horrorween, not to be confused with scream-o-ween.

We are down to number one, and it’s well deserved. Horrorween is a nice little romp with a great atmosphere and is amazing with multiple people. One of the most played Garry’s Mod horror maps ever, and you still get “very creative” things that aren't cheesy at all. All that aside, this map rocks for its atmosphere, playability and creativity in the actual horror parts.

What's great about Horrorween:

  • Aside from the small cheesy moments, a great horror map with scares and challenging opponents.
  • The map is made well and is one of Emnu’s finest creations.
  • Yes, there is a party room at the end. No, you're not invited.

Well, that's it. Horror maps have become a big part of the Garry’s Mod community over the years, and these maps are a great spread of the best and most creative maps around. Now if you excuse me; I need to kill some campers. Yes, in both Call of Duty, and at the lake.
