What are the gucci'est war maps out there in Gmod?

Howdy boyz, I’m gonna be showing you today one of the best military maps I’ve ever played, although I never really was that much into MilitaryRP in Gmod(cuz my pc is bad), I took the time to take a look at some popular militaryRP maps and give ‘em a try in single-player. They’re gonna contain different terrains(arctic, desert, woods, etc) and many more features.

I’ll also be rating these maps based on their size, amount of content they have(interior buildings, bases, undergrounds, etc), how well they run, and even the destructive environment. So let’s get into it:

10. gm_arctic

Get a blanket with ya.

I like this map and I wouldn’t forgive myself if I haven’t included it in at least the top 10, but - you’re freezing your butt off somewhere in the middle of nowhere, with very few hospitable bases, you can only warm yourself thanks to the constant adrenaline of someone trying to pop a cap in yo arse. This is a good militaryRP deathmatch map, especially when arctic climates are your cup of tea and you like to see blood on the snow.

What’s dope about this map:

• Breakable spotlights(adds into the immersion)
• The map has AI nodes for striders, manhacks, ground NPC’s, which means that you don’t have to look for a multiplayer server to have fun on this map
• The author also included some easter eggs for ya to find ;P

9. Predator MG V3

“Steady!” - Cpt. Price

Bruh, if I didn’t include a desert map on this list, then I’d be committing a sin - Predator caught my eyes with its simplicity and my odd obsession with the combination of war and sand. It has plenty of content and particular zones like the crashed Pavelow at the top or an emergency landed “Airteel” plane - small features like this add to the immersion and made me like this map!

What’s dope about this map: 

• Well optimized
• Massive skybox for air vehicles
• Pretty much every building can be entered in that map

8. Woodland Warzone

There are either the Taliban or the Shrek. You decide which is worse. 

Don’t get me wrong, I love the desert, but I love maps with a bit of green as well - and this map has everything I need, a desert with a bit of green. But anyways, Woodland Warzone, this map is a nice, tasty cake, it gives you the ability to spawn in a Taliban cave and imprison sad Yankees. Or you could imprison terrorists and have fun with them with your pals. Everything here is possible and both factions can equally commit war crimes!

What’s dope about this map:

• A fun military base with plenty of features(Killhouse, helipads, shooting range, etc)
• Little destructive environment, but it exists!
• Well designed terrain

7. rp_forest_apocalypse_v1

Where do you go during a zombie apocalypse? The living room.

No, boys, this is a war-themed map, I remember playing it on some militaryRP server ages ago, and surprisingly I ran it fluently on 60 FPS with around 60-70 players on the server. The map does a great job of giving you an apocalyptic vibe - the destroyed buildings, ruined cars, and perfect “dead” atmosphere. There’s plenty of open space so getting shot on is not a hard task, try it for yourselves lads!

What’s dope about this map:

• Destroyable walls
• Very well optimized(My PC is a piece of crap and I ran it fluently without any problems!)
• Unique apocalyptic atmosphere

6. rp_highland

Reminds me a lot of Russia.

This map is too peaceful, therefore it’s necessary to put it into some militaryRP server and start mayhem. I surely love the setting - there’s a mountainous region in the center of the map with snow, so if you’re bored of hiking in forests with a machine gun on your back, you can chill over there. There are 2 bases on this map away from each other and they both have their strategical benefits. Fairly decent map with an Eastern European vibe to it.

What’s dope about this map: 

The mountains are not an “invisible wall decoration”, but are fully walkable

The map has rails, which opens possibilities for a moving train? Pretty cool IMO

Immersive, thick forests

5. RP Inneu Valley 2

Gives me HL2: EP 2 vibes.

Welcome to Inneu Valley, I remember playing this map, or a similar version of it many years ago, one of the distinct features it has is how the terrain is shaped - a forested, mountainous region with a river flowing along the valley. The map is pretty nostalgic for me and although I didn’t play this map on any war/deathmatch-related server I am 100% positive that this map fits into that category. It has a very natural touch to it and it’s pretty lovely!

What’s dope about this map:

• Tunnel systems/caves scattered across the map
• Lack of a big skybox is compensated with awesome branched out roads
• Pretty scenery

4. gm_vyten

gm_arctic but on crack

This map in my eyes is like a better version of gm_arctic, I believe the visuals here are better and there’s generally more content. I think it’s perfect for a massive scale battle, although it could be a bit foggy for aircraft, so I suggest badass low altitude flying. The map’s dominant color is, of course, white, therefore targeting opponents ain’t too hard. 

I haven’t seen this map on MRP servers, but I think it’d make a great addition!

What’s dope about this map:

• The eerie, desolate atmosphere
• Has its periodical background sounds
• If you’re on singleplayer or your own server, you can turn on snowfall(those 2 are the only options though ;(

3. rp_Desert_Conflict

Another map with large quantities of sand.

I know, I know another desert map boo hoo, but listen, I love this map so it’s gonna be here, mmkay? So, after we got that out of the way, let's talk about this map - the city on that map itself has >15 enterable multistorey buildings, which is a guarantee for long-term, grindy combat for both sides. The map is pretty massive and has a big skybox, so bombing terrorists from the safety of your plane is available!

What’s dope about this map:

Better visuals than in its predecessor(rp_Desert_Strike)

The city is fairly big and makes itself the main important battle point

2. rp_pripyat_fixed

rp_forest_apocalypse_v1 but without forests AND on crack

This map is post-apocalyptic awesomeness, it’s vast and very bleak, hopeless and that’s why I love it, it delivers a perfect dead atmosphere, its use is not only for war-based gamemodes, back in my day it was used for Underdone, RP and other gamemodes. I’ve discovered this map by playing on a Definitive Networks “Combine vs Rebels” server and goddamn, was it fun! It’s just simply almost perfect, with plenty of objects to take over and defend, you’ll never run out of purpose and potential with this map. Seriously, try it!

What’s dope about this map: 

The map is immersive as hell. It will make you feel like you’re playing Stalker

Interactable buildings

Everything seems so miserable Friedrich Nietzsche would even recommend this map!

1. gm_balkans

Serbia stronk

This map is surely TOP 1, it has everything the previous maps did(well, it doesn’t have an arctic region or a desert but w/e), it’s a Balkan themed behemoth with destroyable buildings which is already a massive plus in my book, besides that it has interactable entities and a vast, mountainous terrain with rivers.

The map is MASSIVE, and has space for 4 different bases - the biggest militaryRP server I’ve seen in Garry's Mod had +120 players, so you can just put things together and imagine an enormous clusterduck of 30 player squads fighting each other without end. In my eyes, this map fills all of the criteria for a perfect war-themed map and I highly suggest you try it out!

What’s epic about this map:

Destructive environment(You can destroy bridges and a big tower)

The map allows different types of strategies

You can even have fun with an interactive crane

You can bomb places from the headquarters

Apparently, there's some easter egg. I never found it tho. RIP

So that’s it folks, one of my most favorite war-themed maps, I did my best to judge them by their content, aka interactable buildings, their size, destructive environment, setting, and other things. I haven’t really played these maps too much, I always sticked to Zombie Survival, Deathrun, and RP servers but there was always a time where I got bored and would hop on some militaryRP server and play one of these maps mentioned above.

Revisiting some of these maps was pleasant as it reminded me of the good old days of Gmod, some of them are a completely brand new experience and a positive one at that, a lot of work was put in some of these maps and they surely deserve more recognition!
