I still remember the first time playing Kenshi. I was cluelessly wandering around The Hub, having no idea what to do. I decided to hit a copper ore with a pickaxe and perhaps make some money off of selling some copper. Unfortunately for me, I got ambushed by Dust Bandits and couldn’t outrun them(I didn’t know that having so much copper ore would slow you down) and ended up getting my ass whopped…
By pure luck, I managed to avoid bleeding out and bandaged myself just in time. As I was walking back to The Hub, I saw one of the Dust Bandits laying on the ground in a pool of blood, covered by flies. Then I’ve looted his inventory - a rusted junk, holed sabre. That was my first weapon ever and boy, was I happy! Anyways, let’s start with my favorite sabres:
5. Longsword
Pretty short for a Longsword…
Longswords are the only sabres that can fit in the secondary weapon slot. This is a great weapon if you end up getting your arm chopped off by a bandit or bitten off by a Skimmer. A perfect replacement if you’re sick of using Wakizashis or clubs!
Why this weapon is great:
- Decent cutting damage for a secondary weapon
- Meaningless weapon debuffs
- 70% cutting damage, 30% blunt damage

4. Horse Chopper
Misleading name, Kenshi has no horses!
It’s a pretty casual weapon, to be honest. Dust Bandits in Border Zone have an obsession with this weapon, most of them carry it. Like all the other sabres, they deal more cutting damage than blunt damage and prioritize defense over offense.
Why this weapon is great:
- +4 defense bonus
- Common weapon
- Weighs only 10 kilos

3. Holed Sabre
Still haven’t figured out the point for that hole…
As easy to find as the Horse Chopper. Holed Sabre has a unique look and better buffs in terms of defense. Cheap and reliable, can be found in most weapon shops scattered across Kenshi. A weapon designed for simple folk!
What makes this weapon great:
- Purchasable and findable pretty much everywhere
- up to +6 defense buff(depends on the weapon grade)
- A slightly better Horse Chopper. Nuff said!

2. Desert Sabre
Poor wildlife!
Desert Sabres are perfect if you choose to wander The Great Desert - these sabres deal extra damage against Bonedogs and Skimmers, while at the same time rewarding you with a slight defense bonus.
I think what I like the most about Desert Sabres is the fact that they don’t have any debuffs - only buffs. A sweet weapon that’s unfortunately pretty rare and can be found in only a handful of weapon shops!
What makes this weapon great:
- Exterminates all types of spiders.
- 25% attack buff against Bonedogs
- 100% attack buff against Skimmers(RIP)

1. Foreign Sabre
Curved swords are better than straight ones!
I believe that this sabre is the best one - it has the highest cutting damage output, a massive defense buff, which is excellent in the early game and looks unique at the same time. You have a small chance of finding this sabre in Mongrel and a better chance in the Scraphouse.
Can’t think of a better sabre than the Foreign Sabre - it’s a must-have and good luck finding one!
Why this weapon is great:
- +8 defense buff
- Highest cutting damage in the sabre weapon class
- Light

These sabres can be found in WEAPON SHOPS - the Foreign Sabres and the Desert Sabres are rare but can still be found in the UC weapon shops, you can also try your luck in the Mongrel weapon shop. If you’re feeling crazy, you can find the Meitou sabres at:
