Which tanks get the job done when you're on the rift? Find out below.
Tanks in Riot Games’ mobile MOBA League of Legends: Wild Rift are an integral part of a team’s ability to win fights and the match. While tanks may not have an image of fancy plays, Wild Rift’s tanks can turn fights and keep enemies from doing anything at all, and some even do plenty of damage on their own. In this list, we’ll outline the top 10 tanks in the game, giving you the chance to find the perfect champion for your next match.
10. Singed

Singed is quite honestly one of the weirdest champions in Wild Rift, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do good work. All Singed wants to do is run around, spreading his air-bound poison to slow down and kill enemies. This is a frightening tool in the right hands, and combined with his natural tankiness, it gives the rule “don’t chase Singed” plenty of weight.
Singed’s passive and ultimate give him movement speed and the defensive and offensive stats necessary, respectively, to run in and out of fights and keep his enemies in the poison cloud he makes with his skill 1 for as long as possible. In addition, his area of effect grounding crowd control on his skill 2 and his “fling” throw on his skill 3 means that enemies are often “stuck” when he’s nearby. Singed’s playstyle may be harder to master than other champions, but players who master it are a potent tank for their team.
Why Singed is a great tank:
- Natural defensive stats
- Wants to run into fights
- Does poison damage
9. Nasus
Nasus as he appears in League of Legends: Wild Rift
Watch now: NASUS Montage #2 - Lol Wild Rift
Cat lovers beware, the dog is on the rift. Nasus looks like an Egyptian deity, and the difficulty in killing him as well as his late game damage only reinforce the image. Nasus wants to farm and build tank items in the early game, and succeeding to do so makes him one of the most powerful late game tanks in Wild Rift.
Nasus is built around his skill 1, which gains permanent damage every time he uses it to kill an enemy unit. He can then use the slow on his skill 2, the magic damage and armor reduction on his skill 3, and the boost to his defensive stats on his ultimate to catch his enemies and kill them before they can do anything to him. Nasus is both great at split pushing and catching enemies alone, but a good Nasus player can also dominate teamfights.
Why Nasus is a great tank:
- Late game damage
- Easy laning
- Hard to kill due to ultimate and skill 2
8. Dr. Mundo

Wild Rift has its share of mad scientists, and Dr. Mundo is one of the maddest. His muscular physique and purple skin come from the experiments he enacted on himself, and the in-game result is a pure tank that nonetheless can kill any unsuspecting carry. Dr. Mundo wants to build nothing but health items, meaning that as far as tanks go, he is a perfect fit for the role.
Dr. Mundo regains health faster than other champions due to his passive, but in return his skill 1, which throws a cleaver that damages and slows enemies; his skill 2, which creates a ring of fire around him that damages enemies and reduces crowd control on him; and his skill 3, which increases his magic resist passively when taking damage and empowers his next auto attack all cost health. Dr. Mundo thus wants as much health as possible, and uses both tank items with health and his ultimate that gives him health back to make sure he stays alive and can use his skills.
Why Dr. Mundo is a great tank:
- Health regeneration from passive
- Good with tank items
- Consistent damage
7. Rammus

The so-called “Armordillo” of Wild Rift, Rammus is one of the best catch tanks in the game. Rammus fulfills his role in the game by finding enemy players and making sure they can’t escape, which means tankiness is a must. Thankfully, he has tools in his skills to make sure that dying isn’t a part of the equation when going in.
Rammus gains speed from both his passive and using his skill 1, and the taunt on his skill 3 and the aoe slow on his ultimate make him a great initiator. However, his skill 2, which gives him damage resistance, is what makes him a true tank. Using his skill 2 after initiating and catching an enemy allows him to soak up more damage, giving his allies time to do their thing.
Why Rammus is a great tank:
- Damage resistance on skill 2
- Initiator that wants to be focused
- Good crowd control
6. Malphite

As far as tanks go, there is none more “rock-solid” than Malphite. A literal walking mountain, Malphite has tank tools built right into his skills, which means building tank items only makes him better at the role. Malphite is easy to use, and doesn’t need much to have a major impact on the game.
Malphite’s passive and skill 2 both give him tankiness naturally, and the slow on his skill 1 and the attack speed reduction on his skill 3 give him tools to make his enemies’ jobs more difficult. However, Malphite’s true power comes with his ultimate, which knocks up all enemies in an area, which can end a teamfight before it starts. Malphite can soak up any leftover damage, but his ultimate is what allows him to turn the tide of battle.
Why Malphite is a great tank:
- Natural tankiness
- Debuffs for enemies
- A powerful ult

Nothing says “tank” like a massive shield, and that is just what Braum is carrying. The mustachioed support has such great disengage tools and damage prevention that any battle can be handled with ease. If you’re looking for a tank to protect your allies, Braum is the go-to champion.
Braum’s skill 2 allows him to jump to an ally, placing himself between them and the closest enemy, and his skill 3 puts up a shield that blocks all projectiles and damage. In addition, his skill 1 and passive can be used to put stacks on enemies that stun them when said stacks hit 4, and his ultimate slows and knocks up enemies in a line, making it a great disengage tool. Braum is highly protective, and building tank items on him makes him stand strong when needed.
Why Braum is a great tank:
- Skill 3 blocks damage and projectiles
- Good crowd control
- Skill 2 allows for good positioning
4. Galio
Galio as he appears in League of Legends: Wild Rift
Watch now: Wild Rift Galio Mid Challenger Ranked Gameplay
Just looking at Galio, a giant gargoyle with gold plating, should give you the idea of “tank.” Galio is normally played in the mid lane because of his magic damage, but instead of trying to burst his opponents with magic, Galio wants to be the team’s frontline. Galio is nothing short of heroic, and your team saves will give you that feeling with ease.
All of Galio’s skills have some kind of crowd control: his skill 1 slows, his skill 2 taunts, his skill 3 knocks up a single target, and his ultimate knocks up in an area. Combine this with the damage he does, and Galio is the perfect setup for his team to get plenty of kills. In addition, due to his ultimate being global, he can enter a teamfight from just about anywhere on the map.
Why Galio is great tank:
- Plenty of crowd control
- Good initiator
- Good starting damage

Wild Rift has a mummy? Don’t be fooled by Amumu’s small stature, he can pack a punch, and take one too. Using Amumu as a tank in fights allows your allies to catch the enemy team and send them back to the spawning fountain before they realize it.
Amumu’s skill 1 stuns an enemy and sends Amumu to them if it hits, which makes it a great initiator. His ultimate is also an area of effect root, making it a great tool after he has connected with his skill 1. In addition, his skill 2 and skill 3 do damage to enemies around him, meaning he can contribute to the fight after he’s gone in.
Why Amumu is a great tank:
- Good initiation
- Area of effect crowd control ultimate
- Strong team fighter

Gragas being a tank might surprise new players at first, but he’s got so much to offer that building him as a tank is one of the best uses for him. Gragas has the built in tools to lock enemies down, and his initiation style means having the tankiness to survive damage makes him a powerful option for a team. Making use of Gragas to be the damage soak your team needs is a great way to secure victory.
Gragas has a slow on his skill 1, a knockback on his skill 3, and an area of effect knockback on his ultimate, meaning that he has plenty of crowd control at his disposal to make fights his own. In addition, his passive and skill 2 heal him and give him damage resistance respectively, meaning that going in isn’t as risky for him as it could be for the rest of his team. Combine these skills with tank items, and you’re looking at one very hard-to-kill drunkard.
Why Gragas is a great tank:
- Plenty of crowd control
- Healing passive
- Damage reduction on skill 2

Your enemies may never have participated in the Running of the Bulls, but playing against Alistar sure feels like it. This mad cow is considered one of the best tanks in the game currently, as his tools for engaging and damage reduction are unmatched in many situations. Alistar is easy to learn, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t carry a team to victory.
Alistar gets healing for himself and his allies from his passive, and his ultimate gives him damage reduction and removes crowd control on him, making him hard to get rid of. In addition, his skill 1, skill 2, and skill 3 all have crowd control, and his skill 1 and skill 2 can be combined to allow him to engage and knock up multiple enemies at once. Alistar is versatile and powerful, and tank players have a strong option in him.
