Valorant is a tactical FPS game, where teams are divided into attackers and defenders. The attacking side has the main objectives of planting and defending the spike, while defenders are tasked to hold the spike sites and refuse the enemy's entry.
Attackers can win the game when either of these two conditions is met:
- All defenders are killed before the round ends.
- The spike is planted and successfully defended until it explodes.
Below are the steps on how to attack in Valorant:
- Step 1: Spike management. Have someone in the team carry the spike. This task is usually given to sentinels or agents that enter the site last.Image
Step 2: Choose which attacking strategy is appropriate for the situation. You can opt for rushing into the spike site, steady and default pushing, playing for picks, or a mixture of any of these three methods.
- While doing so, take advantage of the agents in your team composition and the opponents’ weaknesses.
Step 3: Be extra mindful of flanks and assign someone as a flank watch. Defenders may send one or two for a surprise attack from behind.
Step 4: Secure the site before planting. Thoroughly check every corner and make sure there are no lurking enemies.

Step 6: Have the remaining members position themselves for post-plant strategy. Defenders should disarm the spike within 45 seconds after it has been planted or else, they lose. This means that time is your ally; they’ll do everything they can for a successful diffuse.
Don’t go pushing when you are defending the spike. Use skills that delay enemy entry, such as Viper’s “Snake Bite” or Killjoy’s “Nanoswarm.”
Step 7: Retreat when the spike is about to explode. There’s a change in the spike’s timer alarm when it’s close to detonating, listen carefully and know when to get away from the site. Don’t retreat too early! Take advantage of the fact that diffusing takes 7 seconds.
There you have it; those are the basic steps for attacking in Valorant. Remember them and go get those spikes planted the next time you attack!
