With the Beast Companions getting a Top 5 list, let’s get into Sentinel Companions. These robotic little things can’t be manually revived like Beast Companions, but they’re also less likely to die in the first place. That’s because they don’t wander around and instead constantly float above your head, so there’s no chance of leaving them behind to die.
Other than that, they’ll fight, support, and defend you just like any other companion. They also have exclusive mods that make each Sentinel unique. Here are the 5 best ones that you should try and get your hands on:
5. Oxylus
The boy scout of Sentinels
The Oxylus’ purpose is pretty niche, but I’d say it’s still better than the other Sentinels that didn’t make it on this list. Those ones have been power crept on by the other Sentinels on this list.
The Oxylus is great at the side activities of gathering plants and fishing in the open world sections. Its exclusive mods allow the Oxylus to scan any surrounding plants and make nearby fish glow (like how the Luminous Dye works).
What the Oxylus excels at:
- Revealing fish:
Scan Aquatic Lifeforms is an Oxylus-exclusive mod that makes the Oxylus reveal nearby fish in open-world areas. It will also reveal fish hotspot areas (areas where more and rarer fish spawn). At max rank, the mod will reveal hotspots within 100 meters of where you are and will cause fish within 40 meters to glow.
- Scanning plants:
Botanist is an Oxylus-exclusive mod that makes the Oxylus scan nearby plants. Scanning plants is how you gather them. This will use up scanners.
That cost might sound like a drag, but once you have the Sol-Battery Widget for your Synthesis Scanner, it will gain infinite scanner charges, and the Helios will be able to scan indefinitely.
- Weapon versatility:
All Sentinel companions can swap out their default weapon for most of the other Sentinel weapons you have. You can make the Oxylus excel at singular targets, large groups of enemies, and anything in between.
Choose the Oxylus if:
- You’re hunting for rare fish:
Fishing can get really annoying sometimes when you just can’t seem to find hotspots and you’re running out of Luminous Dye, the Oxylus will solve that.
- You’re scavenging for plants:
Keep forgetting to scan plants? Happens to the best of us. Equipping the Oxylus allows you to kick back and not have to worry about it.
- You need to collect resources:
All Sentinels can use the mod Vacuum to suck up all the resources around you. This is a requirement if you want to have any efficiency at all in collecting mods and resources.
Aside from that, Scan Matter is another mod exclusive to the Oxylus that will reveal containers nearby, making gathering resources even easier.
Oxylus Stats:
- Armor: 50
- Health: 200
- Shields: 100
How to get the Oxylus:
The Oxylus blueprint is bought from The Business in Fortuna in Venus. It is accessible at Rank 5: Old Mate and costs 20,000 Solaris United Standing.
4. Nautilus
The best bot to have in the Railjack
The Nautilus is a Sentient Companion that’s specialized to accompany players on Railjack missions. The Auto Omni is a Nautilus-exclusive mod that makes the Nautilus repair any nearby hull breaches and put out any nearby fires.
Railjack missions can get really stressful, especially when you don’t have a full squad. Managing a dozen things at once with alarms blazing all-around can do that to you. You might end up forgetting or not noticing the timer from a hull breach tick down and suddenly your mission’s over. So, the Nautilus is a huge weight off your shoulders
What the Nautilus excels at:
- Patching up your Railjack:
At max rank, Auto Omni will have a guaranteed chance to fix a nearby hull breach or fire and has a cooldown of 20 seconds.
- Setting enemies up for attacks:
Cordon is another Nautilus-exclusive mod. At max rank, it bunches up enemies within 30 meters in one direction. This is incredibly useful if you have a crowd control weapon or pretty much any melee weapon to immediately take down a huge number of enemies. It has a cooldown of 15 seconds.
- Weapon versatility:
All Sentinel companions can swap out their default weapon for most of the other Sentinel weapons you have. You can make the Oxylus excel at singular targets, large groups of enemies, and anything in between.
Choose the Nautilus if:
- You’re going on a Railjack mission:
It should go without saying but yeah, bring the Railjack-specialized companion or Railjack missions.
- You have an AoE/crowd control weapon equipped:
Cordon will set up all your targets for you, this is super useful, especially after the update that nerfed AoE ammo. You’ll spend less ammo if all the baddies are in one spot.
- You need to collect resources:
All Sentinels can use the mod Vacuum to suck up all the resources around you. This is a requirement if you want to have any efficiency at all in collecting mods and resources.
Nautilus Stats:
- Armor: 50
- Health: 200
- Shields: 100
How to get the Nautilus:
The Nautilus’ blueprints and parts are obtainable from Arva Vector, the Railjack defense mission on Neptune Proxima on rotations B and C. On defense missions, rotations work on a pattern of AABC, with each letter rotation reward being obtained every 5 waves. So on wave 5, you get a reward from rotation A, on wave 10, you get another reward from A, on wave 15, from rotation B, and on wave 20, from rotation C, then the pattern repeats.
The blueprints and parts also drop from Ice Mines found in missions on Neptune Proxima. This is the advised method since it’s faster and the drop chances are higher.
Here are the drop percentages from each source. The Nautilus blueprints and parts’ drop chances are all equal.
- Arva Vector Rotation B: 4.65%
- Arva Vector Rotation C: 4.26%
- Ice Mines: 6.06%
Alternatively, these parts can also be traded from other players.
3. Carrier Prime
Ammo for days
The Carrier Prime has two things that it does exceptionally well. The first is refilling your ammo. Ammo Case is a mod that’s exclusive to the Carrier and Carrier Prime, not only does it increase your ammo capacity, but it will also convert ammo pickups into whatever ammo your weapon requires.
The second thing it’s good at is looting. With its other exclusive mod Looter, the Carrier Prime will generate a pulse that will destroy nearby crates and containers. Combine this with the Vacuum mod and you’ll be automatically finding and picking up loot as you play.
What the Carrier Prime excels at:
- Replenishing ammo:
At max rank, Ammo Case will increase your weapons’ ammo capacity by 25%, and converting ammo will only take 2 seconds per occurrence. Note that it will only convert ammo if you don’t have any other weapon that currently needs that ammo.
- Breaking containers:
At max rank, Looter will pop any container that’s within 12 meters every 1.5 seconds. That cooldown is almost nonexistent and will pretty much destroy any container you come into contact with.
- Weapon versatility:
The Wyrm Prime is a Sentinel companion, meaning that you can swap its default weapon for most of the other Sentinel weapons you have. You can make the Wyrm Prime excel at singular targets, large groups of enemies, and anything in between.
Choose the Carrier Prime if:
- You’re using an ammo-hungry weapon:
Weapons with incredibly high fire rates tend to drain your ammo pool in a blink of an eye. Ammo Case raises their ammo capacity and quickly refills it which is a huge benefit.
- You’re using AoE weapons:
The recent update that reduced the amount of ammo you pick up for AoE weapons meant that managing their ammo was a priority. With Ammo Case, you’ll have a little more wiggle room for missing with AoE weapons.
- You need to collect resources:
All Sentinels can use the mod Vacuum to suck up all the resources around you. This is a requirement if you want to have any efficiency at all in collecting mods and resources.
Carrier Prime Stats:
- Armor: 150
- Health: 400
- Shields: 100
How to get the Carrier Prime:
Like most Primed stuff, the Carrier Prime’s blueprints and parts are obtainable by cracking Void Relics or trading them with other players. A list of the Void Relics containing this companion’s blueprints and parts can be found on the “Carrier Prime Wiki” link above.
2. Wyrm Prime
The SPF 5000 (Status Protection Force)
The Wyrm Prime is a defensive Sentinel Companion that’s great at keeping status effects away and as well as buying you time when you get surrounded by hordes of enemies.
It does these through the Wyrm-exclusive mods Negate and Crowd Dispersion. Negate shields you from a status effect every few seconds while Crow Dispersion will knock enemies down, allowing you to finish them off or escape.
What the Wyrm Prime excels at:
- Blocking status effects:
The Negate mod will allow you to ignore a status effect every now and then. At max rank, you will be shielded from a status effect every 5 seconds, with a cooldown that low, you’ll be safe from tons of attacks that will weaken you.
- Stopping them dead in their tracks:
Crowd Dispersion is another mod for the Wyrm and Wyrm Prime that knocks down enemies around you. This will allow you more breathing room when a large group attacks. At max rank, it will knock down enemies within a 10-meter radius which is pretty good.
What makes this mod even better is that it only triggers when multiple enemies are nearby, so you don’t have to worry about your Wyrm Prime wasting it on just one enemy.
- Weapon versatility:
The Wyrm Prime is a Sentinel companion, meaning that you can swap its default weapon for most of the other Sentinel weapons you have. You can make the Wyrm Prime excel at singular targets, large groups of enemies, and anything in between.
Choose Wyrm Prime if:
- You keep dying to status effects:
If you keep finding yourself losing to tons of status effects stacking up, you might want to try bringing the Wyrm Prime to make life easier.
- You keep getting overwhelmed:
If the mission you’re in spawns in way too many enemies at once, send in the Wyrm Prime to make those crowds more manageable.
- You need to collect resources:
All Sentinels can use the mod Vacuum to suck up all the resources around you. This is a requirement if you want to have any efficiency at all in collecting mods and resources.
Wyrm Prime Stats:
- Armor: 150
- Health: 225
- Shields: 300
How to get the Wyrm Prime:
Like most Primed stuff, the Wyrm Prime’s blueprints and parts are obtainable by cracking Void Relics or trading them with other players. A list of the Void Relics containing this companion’s blueprints and parts can be found on the “Wyrm Prime Wiki” link above.
1. Helios Prime
Knowledge is power
In my list of the overall best companions, I ranked the Helios Prime on top, so it’s really no surprise that it takes this list’s top spot as well. It simply has an incredibly useful and unique purpose that makes it a great choice no matter what state in the game you’re currently at.
That purpose is to scan enemies and fill up your codex. Scanning enemies is something that you always just seem to forget in the chaos of everything that’s going on, yet is very important. So, automating the process is fantastic
The codex is where you can see each enemy’s weaknesses and strengths, allowing you to properly mod for them. They also give you the models for each one in their entries and some cool lore for some enemies which is pretty neat.
The only time that the Helios Prime will no longer be useful is if Warframe stopped updating forever. Hopefully, that’s not anytime soon!
What the Helios Prime excels at:
- Filling your codex:
At max rank, Investigator will scan enemies from up to 50 meters away. It will only take two seconds to complete a scan but will cost a scanner.
That cost might sound like a drag but once you have the Sol-Battery Widget for your Synthesis Scanner, it will gain infinite scanner charges and the Helios will be able to scan indefinitely.
- Finding Weaknesses
Another Helios-exclusive mod is Detect Vulnerability. Once you’ve fully scanned an enemy into the Codex, the next time you encounter them, the Helios Prime will make a target within 30 meters glow at a certain part.
If you fire at the glowing part, you will deal additional damage to them. At max rank, you will get 275% bonus damage for firing at their weak spot. That’s an amazing effect, especially for tough enemies. This effect will last for about 10 seconds.
- Weapon versatility:
Like the Wyrm Prime, the Helios Prime is a Sentinel companion, so you can exchange its default weapon for any other Sentinel weapon you have. The Helios and Helios Prime also have weapons that only they can use, these are their default weapons. the Deconstructor and Deconstructor Prime respectively.
Choose Helios Prime if:
- Your codex is incomplete:
If you’re entering a mission where you know there are still some unscanned enemies and objects, bring your Helios Prime along to save you a lot of time and effort.
- You’re having trouble with tanky enemies:
Once an enemy’s codex entry is full, the Helios Prime makes dealing with them that much easier. Incredibly useful against high-priority targets like bosses.
- You need to collect resources:
All Sentinels can use the mod Vacuum to suck up all the resources around you. This is a requirement if you want to have any efficiency at all in collecting mods and resources.
Helios Prime Stats:
- Armor: 100
- Health: 250
- Shields: 100
How to get the Helios Prime:
Like most Primed stuff, the Helios Prime’s blueprints and parts are obtainable by cracking Void Relics or trading them with other players. A list of the Void Relics containing this companion’s blueprints and parts can be found on the “Helios Prime Wiki” link above.
