There's a crop of talent brewing in the EPL (and beyond).
In England we’ve always seemed to struggle for one specific position or another from generation to generation (and universally never had a solid set of penalty takers). Right now, despite our run to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, we are hardly in a position to challenge the world’s best. However, as you’ll see from this list, the future looks incredibly bright.
(Note: All the stats are from Career Mode. Some attributes match perfectly with their FUT counterparts, some are slightly different. However, the real value of these players is in their Career Mode development/FUT upgrades.)
15. James Maddison (CAM, Leicester)
An unexpected addition to any FIFA team, but a very decent one.
We’ll kick off with one of the brightest lights of Leicester’s post-title-winning exploits. Maddison is already on the watchlist of many of the big boys. He’s clearly attracted the attention of EA as well, with one look at his FIFA stats.
Maddison’s stat highlights:
- 85 Agility, 84 Ball Control, 81 Dribbling.
- 88 Vision, 84 Short Pass, 85 Curve.
- 82 Shot Power, 80 Long Shots.
Why Maddison is amazing:
- He’s four-star/four-star. Lovely.
- 87 Career Mode potential. Lovelier.
- He also has a beastly 87 FUT Headliners card to match. Loveliest?
14. Mason Greenwood (ST, Manchester United)
I will sing about this guy's weak foot until I am court-ordered to stop.
One of the finds of the season. As an Englishman and Manchester United supporter, it's becoming harder and harder not to jump on the Greenwood bandwagon before he's even made it out of his teens. (Bear in mind that these are just his 74-overall starting stats. Imagine what they become.)
Greenwood’s stat highlights:
- 81 Sprint Speed, 78 Acceleration.
- 78 Agility, 72 Reactions, 72 Ball Control, 73 Dribbling.
- 76 Shot Power, 74 Positioning, 74 Finishing.
Why Greenwood is amazing:
- Unbelievable five-star weak foot. I’ve mentioned how ridiculous that weak foot is before, it’s worth at least six or seven stars.
- Pick him up for next to nothing on Career Mode and push him on to his 89 potential.
- His 90-rated Future Stars card is beautiful and insane.
13. Fikayo Tomori (CB, Chelsea)
It seems that 'young talent' is the phrase of the day here!
The first player I ever included in an article on this site makes his second appearance here. This time, he'll be joined by a whole host of his Chelsea teammates and fellow English defenders. Two months on from that first mention and he’s still a very usable option in-game.
Tomori's stat highlights:
- 83 Sprint Speed, 78 Acceleration.
- 79 Stand Tackle, 76 Interceptions, 75 Marking.
- 78 Strength, 74 Jumping, 76 Agility.
Why Tomori is amazing:
- That top pace is backed up with a 6’1” frame.
- Just 20 years old with an 86 Career Mode potential.
- The price of his outrageous Future Stars card has never been lower.
12. Callum Hudson-Odoi (LM, Chelsea)
Let's hope his off-field activities prove less serious than recent media portrayal.
Next up from Chelsea's homegrown revival is a young man whose season was interrupted by injury long before the country was locked down. Hudson-Odoi has bags of potential on FIFA as well as on the real grass.
Hudson-Odoi's stat highlights:
- 86 Acceleration, 84 Sprint Speed.
- 85 Agility, 82 Dribbling, 80 Ball Control, 78 Balance.
- 72 Jumping, 71 Short Pass.
Why Hudson-Odoi is amazing:
- Four-star skills, 17 years old, and a handy 5’10”.
- He has brilliant dribbling and pace even before you take him to an 88 rating on Career Mode.
- His base is perfect for a silver FUT side, but his Future Stars is top-tier. See what I mean about youth?
11. Tammy Abraham (ST, Chelsea)
Amazing how playing games can improve a young player so much. Strange, isn't it, Mr. Abramovich?
It's easy to forget how much of a unit Abraham is when you look at his slender frame. He's only going to get stronger and quicker as he progresses through his footballing education. When he returns expect Chelsea’s form to go up again.
Abraham’s stat highlights:
- 78 Sprint Speed, 79 Reactions, 76 Ball Control.
- 82 Finishing, 78 Shot Power, 80 Positioning.
- 79 Strength, 81 Heading Accuracy.
Why Abraham is amazing:
- He’s a mammoth 6’5” center-forward that’s still quick and mobile.
- It won’t take long to get him to his 86 potential.
- If you completed his 86 Headliner SBC, well done! If not, his 84 SIF is a suitable substitute.
10. Dean Henderson (GK, Sheffield United)
A new England number 1 is surely just around the corner.
Well, this one wouldn’t have been thought of nine months ago. What a season the Blades are having, in large part down to their homegrown keeper. Can I just add that he’s on loan from Manchester United? Just saying...
Henderson’s stat highlights:
- He’s amazingly well-rounded; 75 Diving, 76 Reflexes, 71 Handling.
- 72 Kicking, 73 Positioning, 50 Speed.
- His TOTSSF card upgrades his outstanding consistency.
Why Henderson is amazing:
- He’s the perfect 6’3” that you need in a GK.
- An amazing price on Career Mode for a potential 87 that has 15 seasons in him easily.
- That TOTSSF card; 89 Reflexes, 88 Diving and Positioning, 87 Kicking, 86 Handling, and 63 Speed.
9. Raheem Sterling (LW, Manchester City)
How can you say no to a player that's already amazingly meta? Try being a Man Utd fan.
The fact that I can’t seem to write one of these lists without including Sterling in there somewhere just shows how good he is in this game. Don’t forget, he used to play for Liverpool before joining Manchester City. It sickens me every time.
Sterling’s stat highlights:
- 96 Acceleration, 91 Sprint Speed.
- 92 Positioning, 85 Finishing.
- 94 Agility, 94 Balance, 90 Dribbling, 90 Reactions.
Why Sterling is amazing:
- Four-star skills, High/Medium work rates, and all kinds of lovely high attributes. Pick your favorite.
- With time on his side he can still reach a 90 rating in Career Mode (if you can afford him).
- He has a couple of FUT upgrades but his regular 88 gold is such good value and still usable anyway.
8. Mason Mount (CAM, Chelsea)
A breakout hit for Fantasy Football teams everywhere (mine included).
Yet another beneficiary of Frank Lampard’s reign/Chelsea’s transfer ban. The second Mason on this list has a bunch of enviable attributes that transfer over to a remarkably well-balanced stat list in FIFA.
Mount’s stat highlights:
- 77 Positioning, 76 Finishing, 76 Shot Power.
- 80 Vision, 80 Short Pass, 76 FK Accuracy, 75 Curve.
- 79 Agility, 80 Ball Control, 78 Dribbling.
Why Mount is amazing:
- Four-star weak foot with High/Medium work rates and he’s cheap in both modes.
- He’s under £15m in Career Mode. At 19 years old he’ll be a mainstay into the 2030s. Yuck.
- On FUT, his Future Stars (again) has excellent balance and is hovering around the 120k coins mark.
7. Dele Alli (CAM, Tottenham)
Treat yourself to some real-life FIFA gameplay right here.
He’s gone off the boil a little this season, but Dele Alli remains a matchwinner when he’s on form for club and country. In FIFA, he is a versatile option for all kinds of FUT squads and Career Mode managers. Scores world-class goals for fun.
Alli’s stat highlights:
- 86 Positioning, 82 Finishing, 79 Long Shots.
- 85 Ball Control, 84 Dribbling, 84 Reactions, 87 Composure.
- 89 Stamina, 81 Aggression.
Why Alli is amazing:
- He’s a big boy for an attack-minded player; 6’2”, still with 4-star skills and high dribbling.
- Not the cheapest on Career Mode, but he’s a ready-made starter with 89 potential.
- There’s a Headliner, an Inform, a MOTM, and a Halloween card in FUT for him. Finish off that rainbow squad with any of them!
6. Harry Kane (ST, Tottenham)
Fits into any side, FIFA or non-FIFA. Just don't say that to Arsenal fans...
What more can I say that hasn’t already been said about Harry Kane? He’ll go down as one of the deadliest marksmen of this century in a league dominated by foreign talent. I’ll say it; he’s the best number nine in the world right now.
Kane’s stat highlights:
- Where to begin. 94 Finishing, 93 Positioning, 86 Long Shots.
- 90 Penalties, 90 Shot Power, 85 Volleys. (Still just his Shooting attributes…)
- 91 Reactions, 91 Composure, 87 Stamina.
Why Kane is amazing:
- A monster. 6’2”, four-star weak foot, and all about putting the ball in the net.
- You get what you pay for in Career Mode for an 89-rated striker who still has two points to grow, and seven or eight years left at the top.
- His Informs run all the way to a 93, and even then his TIF isn’t too pricey for his stats.
5. Marcus Rashford (LM, Manchester United)
Frightening pace and skill, and that's before you see his upgraded stats.
Lighting it up for club and country, Rashford is going to benefit more than most from the enforced pause in the football calendar as he recovers from a back injury. He took his chance in 2016, and it’s insane to me that he’s even been around that long.
Rashford’s stat highlights:
- 94 Sprint Speed, 89 Acceleration.
- 86 Agility, 84 Ball Control, 86 Dribbling.
- 90 Shot Power, 83 Finishing, 84 Positioning.
Why Rashford is amazing:
- He’s 6’1” and has five-star skill moves. Baller.
- He’s young, not extortionately priced, and will go on to at least an 89.
- Don’t even get me started on his FUT Birthday card, let alone his TOTSSF.
4. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB, Manchester United)
The future is bright, but AWB has some serious national competition.
Part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impeccable record of signings for Manchester United. Maybe the best tackler in the EPL right now? Non-Manchester United fans will no doubt disagree, but Wan-Bissaka has to be in the conversation. He’s a top defender that should be an England regular; if it wasn’t for a certain someone...
Wan-Bissaka’s stat highlights:
- 85 Acceleration, 88 Sprint Speed.
- 90 Slide Tackle, 85 Stand Tackle, 82 Interceptions.
- 85 Agility, 82 Dribbling, 74 Short Pass.
Why Wan-Bissaka is amazing:
- You can’t really complain about four-star skills on a right-back, can you?
- Being a defender makes him a bargain on Career Mode (with 89 potential).
- He also takes his place in the EPL TOTSSF next to Rashford.
3. Joe Gomez (CB, Liverpool)
Who would have thought we'd have the new Rio Ferdinand so soon?
It’s inevitable that training and playing with a guy like Virgil van Dijk will make you a better defender. The rise of Joe Gomez from hot prospect to a pivotal cog in a Liverpool defense that seems unbreachable at times is also a testament to this young man’s dedication. He also got a lovely huge FUT card as a bonus.
Gomez’ stat highlights:
- 85 Sprint Speed, 78 Acceleration.
- 85 Stand Tackle, 83 Marking, 83 Interceptions.
- 80 Slide Tackle, 83 Strength.
Why Gomez is amazing:
- Strong, quick, and tall. He’s the dream central defender.
- He’s under £20m, is yet another with 89 potential, and will keep your Career Mode side rock solid for a decade.
- The third player in a row that has an awesome TOTSSF FUT card.
2. Jadon Sancho (RM, Borussia Dortmund)
Just another reason for Brits to support Dortmund.
The one player on this list that is plying his trade outside of England’s top flight. Sancho has already become a Manchester United signing since a successful stint at Dortmund (if you believe British news, which you shouldn’t a lot of the time). As a United fan, I’ve been burned too many times before, so I’ll believe it when I see it…
Sancho’s stat highlights:
- 89 Acceleration, 85 Sprint Speed.
- 91 Agility, 90 Balance, 91 Ball Control, 92 Dribbling.
- 88 Short Pass, 87 Vision, 81 Finishing.
Why Sancho is amazing:
- He’s fast. He’s from a league that isn’t the EPL. Also, He’s five-star skills, four-star weak foot.
- £40-50m is nothing for an 18-year-old that can be a 94-rated Career Mode legend.
- He’s got FUT upgrades across the front line to suit anyone’s squad or budget.
1. Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB, Liverpool)
Will we see a 99-rated TAA in the coming years?
In Wan-Bissaka and Alexander-Arnold, the national team’s right-back double-barreled surname quota looks to be filled for quite some time. This kid has become possibly the best full-back in the world while still a teenager. His clubmate Andy Robertson might have something to say about that, though.
Alexander-Arnold’s stat highlights:
- 93 Crossing, 86 Curve, 87 Long Pass, 85 Short Pass.
- 86 Ball Control, 84 Sprint Speed, 82 Vision.
- 83 Stand Tackle, 81 Interceptions, 87 Stamina.
Why Alexander-Arnold is amazing:
- His passing attributes are up there with any midfielder in the game.
- He’ll cost you under £40m, at age 19 with a 90 potential.
- His FUT cards are just beyond stupidly good.
