[Top 10] Rimworld Best Seeds That Are Excellent (2022 Edition)

A decent starting seed could make or break your potential colony!

The best Rimworld seed guide just for you!

Seeds in Rimworld are undoubtedly an integral aspect of gameplay, literally a deciding factor that can directly cause a successful or failed colony. A good location seed could mean a head start at the beginning of the game, which could mean anything from fertile land to grow food to an enclosed environment for protection. We’ve listed down the top ten seeds that do just that and more, giving you the best advantages to survive on the rim.

10. Seed: challenge: 27.21°N and 31.59°E (Coverage: 50%)

I know. I know. Still, I have a point here.

Listen, I know everyone has their favorite kind of seed in this game. But hear me out. This base is impenetrable. There’s no way any of your enemies can get through this. It’s almost impossible. Also, I want you to focus on what colony you might be able to have. Think of the unbridled potential this seed has. That’s what your colony can be.

The best Rimworld seed?:

  • The strongest base there is. Nothing here but stone.
  • Think of what your colony can be. Your imagination is the limit here.
  • Only one chokepoint because there’s no space to be anywhere else.

9. Seed: never settle: 39.84°N and 24.76°E (Coverage: 30%)

That’s one thicc river.

What’s interesting about this seed is the heavily mountainous enclave that is complemented by a one-way entrance facing a long and vast river. The river has deep parts where your enemies will be unable to cross making the entrance even more protective if optimized correctly. This seed is great for players who want protection but also rely on water-powered energy sources.

What's so good about this seed?:

  • There is a big body of water, fewer pathways for enemies.
  • The mountainous area serves as a natural defense.
  • One main entrance point means it’s easy to arrange a defense.

8. Seed: iuwrgau: 25.17°S and -3.35°W (Coverage: 50%)

A Mountain base hidden in caves.

This base is a great place to hide away inside a naturally generated defense system. The upper right side of this map especially is a good place to set up your colony. Take care, however, since cave systems are notorious for housing pesky insectoids that might just be too difficult for your colonists to handle, especially at the beginning of a playthrough.

What’s so great about this seed?:

  • Cave formations can serve as a temporary starter house.
  • Large open space and many natural chokepoints.
  • Can be optimized to create inventive killboxes using the caves.

7. Seed: Couch Potato: 7.53°N and 1.56°E (Coverage: 30%)

Look at that beautiful seaside view.

The mountainous aggregate of slate and granite is contrasted by the relaxing coastal area that your pawns can take advantage of. Easily defendable with lots of naturally fertile land, this seed will ensure your colony’s safety and development.

This beach seed is pretty awesome!:

  • Big strong mountains to protect your squishy pawns.
  • Lots of fertile soil to grow your crops - easy food supply!
  • Large expansive area in the mountainous portion.
  • Great for beginners who want a relaxing playthrough by the beach.

6. Seed: Salame: 50.12°N and 0.23°W (Coverage: 30%)

A chill and rocky tundra!

Located in a tundra biome, this seed is for players that want a much colder, consistent playthrough that has a more consistent temperature. The mountains are made up of sandstone, granite, and limestone, making for a diverse set of building blocks granting the player freedom to choose what to build with.

Why this seed is better than most actually:

  • Tundra biomes are easier to manage with more consistent temperatures throughout the season.
  • Variety in building blocks gives the player choices.
  • Rocky mountains make for easily defendable colonies.
  • Sporadic arrangements of mountains and hills.

5. Seed: Cartago: 65.72°N and 19.67°W (Coverage: 30%)

Yet another mountain base.

Oh, look! Another tundra mountain base. Sure you might be saying that but consider this, upon further inspection, one can see that this kind of base has a readily available area at the upper left side of the map. This kind of base is perfect for players that want one secluded area to be able to grow their colony away from the threats of the rim.

Apparently, tundra bases are amazing:

  • Secluded area with one entrance chokepoint.
  • Has granite, sandstone, and limestone available.
  • Relatively consistent weather and temperature.
  • Small spaces at the very top in the mountains could serve as temporary housing.

4. Seed: dragon: 9.66°N and 43.38°E (Coverage: 50%)

Big spaces, fertile lands.

A large protected area with lots of fertile lands. What more could you ask for? Even better with this seed is the orientation of the mountains, it goes from up to down so you can expect threats and raids to come from places you can easily spot.

The best kinds of seeds are those you’re most comfortable with:

  • Very fertile lands. Lots of space to grow crops.
  • Beautiful coastal ruins to take advantage of.
  • Top to bottom orientation.
  • Bricks can be made from granite, slate, and marble stones.

3. Seed: devil: 41.93°S and 151.29°E (Coverage: 100%)

Can you believe this is a temperate forest?

Another coastal seed. This location has one chokepoint that is easily defendable while being surrounded by tons and tons of rock. Imagine your colony turning into a heavily armored fortress while being a quaint summer paradise.

One of the best seeds to have:

  • Has multiple geysers where you can optimally grow your colony.
  • Big area for potential colony expansion.
  • Lots of wood for harvesting that will keep you warm through winters.
  • An idyllic countryside with seaside to boot!

2. Seed: shiro: 4.65°N and 16.83°W (Coverage: 30%)

Just look at the wide arid shrubland range.

For players who want a little bit more of a challenge, this arid shrubland playthrough is for them. Since these kinds of biomes have a lot less wood than usual, players need to make do with what resources they have. However, that doesn’t mean that this isn’t a top-tier seed. With several places to choose from, your colony can be easily defended.

Why this is a great seed:

  • Lots of places to start building colonies on this map.
  • A couple conveniently placed ruined to help you in the beginning.
  • For players looking for a little bit of a challenge.

1. Seed: entrails: 50.80°S and 24.16°W (Coverage: 50%)

A peaceful boreal forest.

This map is for the boreal forest enjoyers. There’s lots of wood, an assortment of mountains and hills, there's even a beach for water-generated power as a clean and sustainable energy source. There’s a lot to like in this map as you can easily see along with the massive mountains that protect from all angles.

Pros of this seed:

  • The prime location for a base would be on the left side of the mountains.
  • Lots of swamp and marsh to disorient enemies.
  • Lots of available wood for houses and buildings.
