25 Best Rocket League Settings That Give You An Advantage

Have you ever wondered why pro Rocket League players always get asked the same question, “What are your settings?”

Well, those settings can have a major impact on your ability to learn and adapt to this game. Now, I may not be heading to the RLCS any time soon, but I can let you guys in on what settings can give you that extra edge when trying to improve your game.

1) Camera Shake

Camera Shake has been known to be the first setting that should always be changed from the default Rocket League settings. This setting is turned on to give an immersive and chaotic feel to the game.

The only issue with this is that in a competitive setting, it holds no purpose at all. Imagine trying to line up a nice shot in the air and your camera begins to shake and that easy goal you were trying to hit, is no longer an easy goal at all.

Turning this setting off is going to give you an advantage by limiting your distractions and will give you a more clean and precise experience.

To apply this setting follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Click on the Camera tab
  • Deselect “Camera Shake”

 2) Field of View

Field of view is the setting in which controls how much of the pitch you can see while playing. The higher your FOV the more you will see and the lower your FOV is, the more you will have what looks like tunnel vision.

Most pro players all use the maximum field of view of 110. This gives those who use this setting a complete and full view of the field.

Turning this setting all the way up will be the best option for you as you don’t want to be at a disadvantage up against other players. If your FOV is lower than your opponent, then they can see more of the pitch than you can.

To apply this setting follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Go to the Camera tab
  • Move the Field of View all the way to the right to make it 110

3) Distance

Distance is the actual distance between the camera and your car. A lot of times this setting comes down to personal preference, but I can suggest to you the best range to stick to.

If you have your distance set too high, it will cause you to have a harder time judging when your car will hit the ball.

If you keep your distance just right, generally you will have a better view of the ball and what’s going on around it. With this said you should stick to a distance in the range of 260-280 and my personal preference is 270.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the Distance to the range you would like

4) Height

Height is the setting that changes the height of your camera over your car. The higher this setting is, the more of an overview you will have.

If you increase your height too much, you may have trouble aligning your car with the ball when going for aerial shots.

With the right distance set, you will be able to judge the ball correctly and accurately when going for shots. The best range for this setting is 100-110 with 110 being the most popular amongst pro players.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the Height adjuster accordingly

5) Angle

Angle is the setting that changes the angle at which the camera is viewing your car.

If your angle setting is too low then you will look like you are looking at your car from a bird’s eye view and having it too high, the angle will be much too flat.

Having the angle just right will allow you to have a great overview of the pitch in front of you. The best number to have this on will be -5.00.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the Angle adjuster to -5.00

6) Camera Stiffness

Camera stiffness is basically how loose the camera is when it follows your car.

Having the setting at the lowest will have the camera zoom out very far when you are going at high speeds. The higher the setting, the more rigidly the camera follows your car.

With the correct setting on your camera stiffness, it will allow you to have the camera follow your every move without barely wobbling which will give you an advantage over your opponents. The best setting for this will be 0.45

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the Angle adjuster to 0.45

7) Swivel Speed

The swivel speed is the sensitivity of your camera.

If you have your swivel speed too low, the slowness of your camera moving can limit your ability to see the action as it happens.

The best swivel speed to have is maxed out at 10.0. This will ensure that you can be super-fast on the pitch and see everything that is going on around you.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the Swivel Speed all the way to the right to 10.0

8) Vibration

This setting is a very simple one. It is just whether to allow your controller vibration to be on or off.

The controller vibration can be a distraction, which you don’t want when playing competitively.

I recommend turning your vibration off because with it on, it doesn’t offer any benefit to your gameplay. Keeping it off will limit your distractions and give you an extra edge on the pitch.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Click on the controller vibration setting and select disabled.

9) Deadzone

The controller deadzone is a setting that lets you control how sensitive you want your joystick to be.

The lower this setting is the most sensitive it will feel while playing.

This setting can take some time to get used to but the best deadzone sensitivity is at 0.05. Once you get comfortable with it, you will be able to move more freely with your car on the pitch.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Move the controller deadzone over to 0.05

10) Steering Sensitivity

Your steering sensitivity is going to be how sensitive your joystick is to your car’s overall steering.

Having this too low will make it much more difficult to quickly turn throughout the pitch.

The perfect setting for this is right at 1.30. Doing this will allow you to turn freely on the pitch and feel faster than your opponents.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Move the steering sensitivity to 1.30

11) Aerial Sensitivity

Your aerial sensitivity is like the steering sensitivity, the only difference Is that this controls the sensitivity of when your car is in the air.

This is another setting in which having it too low, can cause you to not be able to move your car as well in the air to adjust to hitting the ball.

You want this setting right at 1.30 as well. This number will allow you to get better at moving your car in the air and hitting shot angles you couldn’t hit before.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Move the aerial sensitivity to 1.30

12) Transition Speed

This setting is how fast you toggle between car and ball cam.

This setting can seem that it isn’t all that important, but it can simply be the difference between reacting to a play or not.

The best speed to set this to is right at 1.20. This will allow you to toggle back and forth fast enough to be faster on the pitch but not too fast where you lose track of the play.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Camera tab
  • Move the transition speed to 1.20

13) Ball Camera Mode

This setting controls whether your transition from ball cam to car cam is either toggled by clicking the button or holding down the button. Holding it down will keep you in ball cam until you release it.

Always have this setting set to toggle. If you don’t have this on toggle, you will lose the ability to do any kind of complex maneuvers on the pitch.

With toggle on, you can learn those tricky maneuvers and have the freedom to quickly transition back and forth.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Click on ball camera mode and make sure you have toggle selected

14) Display Mode

This setting only applies to PC players but if you are on PC, it is very important.

Always keep your display mode on Fullscreen. It has been known that you can get input lag using anything else. Plus, you want the best view you can possibly have while playing.

Ensuring you have no input lag is very important in Rocket League. You want to be always on the same wavelength as everyone else on the pitch.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Video tab
  • Select display mode and make sure it is set to Fullscreen.

15) World Detail

World detail is the setting that affects how much you can see around you.

It isn’t necessary to have this on any kind of high setting because it can serve as just more distractions within your game and make the pitch look more cluttered.

Switching this to performance will ensure that you have minimum distractions on the pitch, and you can focus more on your play.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Video tab
  • Select the world detail setting and select Performance.

16) Resolution

The best resolution is to go with what is native to your screen. There is no real benefit in Rocket League when using higher resolutions in this game.

The game will perform just as well on a lower resolution than on a higher one, so it is recommended to keep it to what your screen is.

If you are having any issues with your frame rates, then lowering it will be your best bet. Overall, keeping it right at your screen’s native resolution is going to be your best option.

If your resolution stays at a good spot, you will have an advantage because you won’t have to deal with any kind of frame rate loss.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Video tab
  • Select the Resolution tab and apply the setting which is native to your screen.

17) Vertical Sync

Vertical Sync synchronizes your gameplay with the refresh rate of your monitor.

Having this setting on is a big no in any competitive Rocket League scenario because it limits your input to the speed of your monitor which will create a very noticeable lag.

Turning this off will ensure that you have no input lag, and your playing ability will not be affected.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Video tab
  • Be sure to have Vertical Sync not checked off.

18) Text Chat

This setting is where you can choose to see all of the typed messages by everyone in the game whether they are your opponent or teammate.

Setting this to Team Only is going to change your entire mindset while playing this game.

Not having to deal with toxic opponents and their slur and spam messages, you will be able to focus a lot more on your own gameplay.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Gameplay tab
  • Select the text chat option and set this to Team Only.

19) Game Stat Display Level

This setting shows you’re the different notifications throughout the game that you receive. As an example, it will show shots on target, assists, goals, demolitions, etc.

Having Main Stats Only will ensure that you don’t see all the unnecessary notifications from taking up space on your screen.

This is just one more setting that ensures you have fewer distractions. Fewer distractions equal better gameplay.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Gameplay tab
  • Select the Game Chat Display Level option and set it to Main Stats Only.

21) Powerslide Key Bind

There are a couple of key bindings that will ensure you have a better experience on this game.

With that being said, the first one you should focus on is your powerslide. Changing this will give you a much better flow of the game and will enable you to more freely use your powerslide which can be a huge advantage in the game.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Scroll down till you find the powerslide key
  • Click to clear your keybinding
  • Then press L1 if on Playstation or Lb on Xbox

22) Air Roll Key Bind

The second key binding that you should change will be you Air Roll. This is what allows you to move your call freely in the air.

Applying this and learning to use this key bind will allow you to learn highly mechanical plays to get you to the next level in your gameplay.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Scroll down till you find the Air Roll key
  • Click to clear your keybinding
  • Then press L1 if on Playstation or Lb on Xbox

23) Air Roll Right or Left Bind Key Bind

Another key binding is your Air Roll Right or Left. This is what will allow you to angle your car even more during your air rolls.

This is just another setting to use to enhance your air rolling ability and make your aerial plays even better.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Scroll down till you find the Air Roll Left/Right key
  • Click to clear your keybinding
  • Then press Square if on Playstation or X on Xbox

24) Boost Key Bind

The default key bind for your boost is not a bad setting to use. There have been some players known to still use this setting, but it has been widely discovered that the most effective key bind for this is in fact R1 on Playstation and Rb on Xbox.

Using this setting is going to allow you to be faster on your plays when transitioning to ground and aerial. This will give you an advantage against your opponents because once you have this bind down, you will have a much higher chance of beating them to the ball.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Controls tab
  • Scroll down till you find the Boost key
  • Click to clear your keybinding
  • Then press R1 if on Playstation or Rb on Xbox

25) Interface Scale

This setting changes the size of every element on your screen. This includes your boost and the scoreboard.

If this is set too high, it can take up a lot of space on your screen and limit your focus on playing.

Lowering this setting to around 80% is going to allow you to freely see everything that is happening on the pitch with fewer distractions.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Interface tab
  • Find the Interface Scale setting and move the bar down to 80%

25) Ambient Audio Setting

The Ambient Audio setting is going to be the sounds in your game that are outside of the arena itself.

Turning this off completely will allow you to only be hearing the cars and gameplay around you. Being able to hear where opponents’ cars are behind you and where your teammates are can help bring your gameplay to the next level.

Distractions are a big no in this game as we have previously discussed. Audio can play a huge factor in that as well. So, for this setting turning it down to 0% is the best option.

To apply this setting, follow these instructions:

  • First go to the options screen from either the main menu or the pause menu during a game.
  • Open the Audio tab
  • Find the Ambient setting
  • Turn the setting all the way down to 0%
