This guide will show you every step to obtaining a fairy, how to use them, upgrade them, what to look for, and the in-betweens to answer your burning questions.

Having a Fairy in Black Desert is paramount to achieving a relaxing grind. Fairies aid you with passive quality-of-life features such as—Auto Healing, Supplementary Weight, Extended Underwater Breathing, Luck, and free Resurrections. Your fairy will be family-shared, meaning all characters can use it, you only have to obtain one!

1. How To Start:

First, open your quest menu by pressing “O.” Go to the bottom of the tab where it says “Quest Type” and click the icon that reads “All.” Proceed to the suggested quest tab and look for “[ADV Support] Fairy, Mysterious Companion.”

You have to be level 53 and above to start this quest line. Once you’ve accepted the quest, head to Kamasylvia Temple to meet Theiah!

Theiah’s quest involves handing over Cooking Honey; simple. You will then be tasked to interact with an “Unstable Crevice.” Upon completion, you’ll be rewarded with a Sealed Fairy Wing—a loot box with rewards dictated by RNG.

Register your fairy by clicking the fairy icon on the top left of your screen alongside your tent and mount icons!

2. Fairy Levels:

Fairies have 4 tiers and each tier has its own set of levels.

  • Faint - 10
  • Glimmering - 20
  • Brilliant - 30
  • Radiant - 50

The tier of your fairy determines the amount of skills they can have.

  • Faint - Tier I - 2 Skills
  • Glimmering - Tier II - 3 Skills
  • Brilliant - Tier III - 4 Skills
  • Radiant - Tier IV - 6 Skills

3. Fairy Skills:

There are a total of nine passive skills a fairy can have. Each skill—excluding Morning Light—has tiers ranging between 1-5 (I-V).

  • Continuous Care (Max Level 5)
  • Miraculous Cheer (Max Level 5)
  • Feathery Steps (Max Level 5)
  • Tingling Breath (Max Level 5)
  • Inexhaustible Well (Max Level 5)
  • Fairy’s Tear (Max Level 4)
  • Morning Light (No Level)
  • Continuous Care - Passively uses a maximum of 20 items/buffs of your choosing.
  • Miraculous Cheer - Auto-uses health and mana potions.
  • Feathery Steps - Increases your max weight limit by 5% to a maximum of 25%.
  • Tingling Breath - Increases the time you can hold your breath underwater.
  • Inexhaustible Well -  Automatically uses Purified Water and Star Anise; which assists you in grinding desert zones.
  • Fairy’s Tear - Allows you to resurrect yourself, gain maximum health, and regain your lost experience upon death.
  • Morning Light - Illuminates your surroundings with a vibrant aura matching the color of your fairy.

The ninth passive skill is Luck +1. This will increase the loot drop rate when grinding monster zones and is innate with every fairy regardless of level. This skill cannot be changed or removed.

4. Fairy Growth:

To start growing your fairy, you’ll need Unenhanced Equipment or Sweet Honey Wine, which can be made via cooking or purchased from the central marketplace. Otherwise, you can check the game’s codex for substitutes to help grow your fairy. (https://bdocodex.com/us/fairyfood/)

You can also buy Ornette’s Dark Honey Wine with real money from the pearl shop as a last resort.

Once you have what you need, open your fairy menu by clicking the fairy icon then “Growth.” From here you can select the items and feed your fairy for levels!

5. Fairy Skill Re-Rolling:

Getting the perfect fairy is a pain—especially on your wallet. Since skill re-rolls can only be done using Theiah’s Orbs which are seldom given out or adversely bought on the Pearl Shop with real money. Your best bet is to get your fairy to Tier IV and only level her to 10.

Keeping her at a lower level is significantly cheaper. Whereas, the higher your fairy’s level, the more Theiah’s Orbs it will cost to re-roll; which translates to blood, sweat, tears, and possible bankruptcy.

Levels & Costs:

  • Level 10: x1 Theiah’s Orb
  • Level 20: x2 Theiah’s Orb
  • Level 30: x3 Theiah’s Orb
  • Level 40: x4 Theiah’s Orb
  • Level 50: x5 Theiah’s Orb

6. Fairy Rebirth:

There are two variations of Rebirth: Growth & Persona:

Growth Rebirth will completely reset your fairy’s current levels and skills, back to square one. This requires your fairy to be level 10 at the minimum and additionally requires the purchase of Fairy’s Queen Might, only sold in the Pearl Shop.

Persona Rebirth doesn’t affect your skills or levels; this instead changes the appearance, personality, and color of your fairy. This also requires a Fairy’s Queen Might to reset.

7. Fairy Outfits/Skins:

Currently, we have two skins available for fairies at all times in the Pearl Shop—Venecil and Kibelius. These were recently added alongside the release of Scholar. Fairies equipped with these skins give exclusive stats.

  • Venecil - Gives an additional 10% Processing EXP.
  • Kibelius - Reduces Death Penalty by 5%.

However, two other limited edition skins—Tick-Tock and Puck—can be obtained during certain times of the year via events. Tick-Tock is part of the Halloween event so stay tuned if you want to snag this appearance!

Otherwise, for Puck, you’ll have to wait until Pearl Abyss decides to release the “Guts” event again.

8. Laila’s Petal Exchange:

Perhaps you didn’t like your fairy or failed to grow to the next level. Simply exchange yours for another one using Laila’s Petals with a chance of getting a high-tier fairy. Head to Kamasylve Temple, talk to Theiah, and exchange your petals for Sealed Fairy Wings!

You can exchange already opened fairies for Sweet Honey Wine by talking to Ceilyn. If you’re lucky enough to open a Brilliant or Radiant fairy, you can exchange them for Mythical Feathers (T10 Horse Materials) through Herawen.
