Fans of Pokémon Go, Game Freak fixed it.

You can finally have Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Greninja, and Lucario in an official Nintendo Pokémon Generation 9 game that’s 10x more functional than Sword and Shield, 10x better-looking than Pokémon Arceus, and 10x more playable than Pokémon Unite.

The biggest deal is that you can transfer your “ Pokémon Go” Greninja into Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with 0% issues through Nintendo’s free app, Pokémon Home. The same goes for Lucario. Heck, you can transfer your Sceptile. They are in Scarlet and Violet, too, but it's a lot of work to catch Greninja because it requires extra exploring in the Indigo Disc DLC.

There is finally a space for us to battle for fun, and the Pokémon games are starting to feel much like the beloved anime, thanks to the Scarlet and Violet’s Union Circle mechanic.

What are Casual Battles?

Casual Battles should be a space for fans of Pokémon to battle other trainers online. It’s battling for fun, not about winning or losing. It’s about making an exciting and somewhat challenging battle without being so overpowered all the time with balanced movesets.

The official casual battles system via Battle System is rigged in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet because it’s also a space for competitive gamers to test their custom or rental Pokémon teams for Ranked Battles and Competition. They do this so they don’t lose their ranking, which can ruin the fun for some fans. You don’t want to get creamed by those players.

So, how can you actually “casual battle” for fun?

Honestly, the best way is to play with your friends in Union Circle mode and battle with “Casual Batte” restrictions. You could make up your own rules, such as only using level 20 Pokémon.

You can also interact with a safe online community that shares Union Circle codes. Instructions will be in this article.

The Pokemon in this list are ranked by most fun to play with friends regardless of whether it can be "Pokemon Go" transferable or found in Scarlet and Violet.

The most fun recommended Pokémon to transfer from “Pokémon Go” are Greninja, Pikachu, Malamar, Venusaur, and Lucario. The article will go over their changed stats in the game.

Analysis:

Greninja in a fun battle should be fun to play with because it's supposed to be a decoy hit-and-run Pokémon that still has high HP at the end of the battle. Greninja's best ability, Torrent, powers up Water-Type attacks when its HP is low.

Advice:

The strategy behind Greninja is that essential moves, like Thief, are meant to steal all of the opponent's Pokémon's held items while Greninja hides behind a Substitute as a shield.

Play around with other moves if desired, a few unique moves are:

  • Spikes, damaging opposing Pokémon that switch into battle.
  • Role Play, mimicking the target completely, copying the Target's Ability.
  • Lick, an accurate 30 Power Attack, leaving the target with Paralysis.

Geninja Strengths:

  • Greninja should have great Speed, Accuracy, and either high Attack or high Special Attack. As an example, 212 HP, 196 Special Attack, 238 Speed, and 132 Special Defense are excellent goals to work toward and build even higher. Greninja should be accurate and fast in battle.
  • Moves like Water Pulse (Special Attack) and Liquidation (Attack) are excellent, far-range, accurate moves to deal with effective damage. Opt for one or the other if your Greninja has a higher Special Attack or higher Attack.
  • Water Pulse is an accurate 60 Power Special Attack, leaving the target confused.
  • Liquidation is an accurate 85 Power Attack lowering the target's defense.
  • Moves of U-Turn and Substitute are protective moves where Greninja hits and runs.
  • U-Turn is an accurate 70 Power Attack where, after Greninja attacks, it switches with another Pokémon.
  • Substitute is a Special Defense move. Greninja uses some of its HP to create a substitute. The substitute serves as a decoy.

If you have a Pokémon Go account and have a great Pikachu with great stats, you can transfer it to Scarlet and Violet through Pokémon Home. Some of Pikachu’s stats may change in Scarlet and Violet, but on a margin, it is better than Scarlet and Violet’s built-in Pikachu.

Analysis:

Like Greninja, Pikachu can be a hit-and-run Pokémon during Casual Battle. Pikachu can also hold by itself during battle without hit-and-run tactics if it keeps moves such as Electro Ball, Dig, Nasty Plot, and Trailblaze. Pikachu’s Static ability paralyzes opponents who land physical Attacks.

Advice:

The strategy behind Pikachu is not to get hit, but to use its Speed to boost its evasiveness and leave the opponent paralyzed. If Pikachu has high Speed, it can dodge incoming attacks, or the target might miss their attacks. Essential moves like Trailblaze increase Pikachu’s Speed stat and help counter against Ground, Rock, and Water Types.

Play around with other moves if desired, a few unique moves are:

The best held item for Clodsire is the Poison Barb, which can increase poison attacks such as Sludge Wave and Toxic Spikes if Water, Fairy, and Grass-Types enter battle.

Advice:

The strategy behind Clodsire is nice and simple, using Yawn or Toxic Spikes to put opponents asleep or poison opponents switching into battle. You want Clodsire against Water-Type opponents because that will be the strategy to gain more HP during online battles and make Clodsire last longer.

  3. The console must be flipped upside down and aligned completely straight.

  4. Level up Inkay with your Exp. Candy.

Pokémon Go

If you have a Pokémon Go account and have a great Malamar with great stats, you can transfer it to Scarlet and Violet through Pokémon Home. Some of Malamar’s stats may change in Scarlet and Violet, but it is better than Scarlet and Violet’s built-in Malamar by a margin.

Analysis:

Malamar is a Pokémon trying to slow down the battle with Special Defense moves and trap the opponent into a tricky situation by lowering their stats, stealing their held items, and maybe using Hypnosis to make them sleep. When using aggressive Dark Attack moves, like Foul Play, it can go past a Pokémon using substitutes and barriers with the help of the Infiltrator ability.

Advice:

The strategy behind Malamar can be difficult. When entering battle, immediately use moves like Switcheroo to give an opponent either a Toxic Orb or Flame Orb. Be prepared to use Switcheroo again, ensuring to use the opponent’s held items against them, following up with Fling.

Analysis:

As long as Altaria has Protective Pads as a held item, it will protect itself from physical attacks. Altaria should use Special Defense and Defense buffs while lowering the opponent’s Special Attack and Attack Stat. Threaten the opponent with the move Sing to make them fall asleep or take out overly competitive players with Perish Song to make them faint in the next 3 turns.

The strategy behind Altaria is to control the battle in your hands on your terms at all costs. Moves like Moonblast will lower the opponent’s Special Attack stats, while Feather Dance will lower Attack stats. Cotton Guard will boost Altaria’s Defense to last longer in battle.

Alternately, you can make Haunter forget Nasty Plot and Hex for Hypnosis and Dream Eater, so Haunter can make the opponent sleep and steal its HP.

Use moves like Double Edge and Super Power against overly competitive players. It’s also a perfect supporting Pokémon when boosting your ally’s Attack with Helping Hand and setting up Screen moves.

Advice:

Azumarill is a perfect reckless attacker as long as it keeps moves like Aqua Ring and holds the Shell Bell. That’s the fun thing about Azumarill, and you should be able to test out its many Attacks.

Analysis:

Unlike most Evee’s, Glaceon is strongest without using Special Defense moves and should use a collective of Attack, Defense, and Speed moves. Its best ability, Snow Cloak, will boost its evasiveness when Snowscape is in effect. The Never Melt Ice will boost Glaceon’s Ice-Type attacks. Blizzard is a perfect move to take out overly-competitive players.

Advice:

The strategy behind Glaceon is to increase its Defense and Attack and decrease the opponent’s Speed stats, such as by using Icy Wind. Slyveon info.

Slyveon stats:

Background:

  • Fairy Type. Fairy Tera Type.
  • Ability: Cute Charm, the Pokémon may infatuate attackers that make direct contact with it. Infatuated Pokémon have a 50% chance of being immobilized by love each turn and unable to attack. This doesn’t impact genderless Pokémon like Magnemite.
  • Hidden ability: Pixilate, Slyveon causes all Normal-Type attacking moves to become Fairy type and increases their damage rate by 20%
  • Held Item: Misty Seed, if the terrain becomes Misty Terrain, Slyveon will use this seed to boost its own Special Defense stat

Base Stats:

  • 95 HP
  • 65 Attack
  • 65 Defense
  • 110 Special Attack
  • 130 Special Defense
  • 60 Speed

Best moves for Solo (female Slyveon):

  • Misty Terrain
  • Attract / Take Down / Double Edge
  • Charm / Moonblast
  • Draining Kiss

Best moves for Solo (male Slyveon):

  • Moonblast
  • Misty Terrain
  • Shadow Ball / Charm / Fake Tears
  • Draining Kiss

Best moves for Double (female and male Slyveon):

  • Misty Terrain
  • Attract / Take Down / Moonblast
  • Draining Kiss
  • Helping Hand / Baton Pass / Psych Up / Covet

All's fair in love and war, quite literally. Slyveon is the best casual battling Pokémon because it's one of the best Eveelutions. The ability of Cute Charm is highly underrated, while Slyveon can use plenty of overpowered Normal-Moves to counter over-competitive players. It is known for using all Special Attack, Attack, and Special Defense moves.

As a Fairy Tera Type, Slyveon’s immune to Dragon-Types.

Slyveon is Strong Against:

  • Dragon
  • Fighting
  • Bug
  • Dark
  • Fairy (if Slyveon is male)

Slyveon is Weak Against:

  • Steel
  • Poison

Slyveon Resists:

  • Dragon
  • Fighting
  • Bug
  • Dark
  • Most other types

Where to find Slyveon:

In Pokémon Go:

If you have a Pokémon Go account and have a great Slyveon with great stats, you can transfer it to Scarlet and Violet through Pokémon Home. Transferring your Slyveon from Go is better than painfully evolving Evee again in the game!

In-game:

Find the Tera Slyveon in North Providence Area 3. Unfortunately, this Slyveon is Male.

Find any Slyveon in South Providence Area 6 and create a Fairy-Type Sandwich.

Make a Level 3 Fairy Sandwich containing:

  • 1 order of Cucumber
  • 1 order of Pickle
  • 3 orders of Tomato
  • Any 2 Hebra Mystica except Sweet and Sour.
  • Use 2 Bitter or 2 Spicy, or 1 Bitter + 1 Spicy
  • Magical Heart Pick

As an alternate method, catch a female Evee in South Providence Area 2. Then, watch this special video on how to evolve it into a Slyveon.

To have a female Slyveon learn the move Attract, breed with a male Luvdisc that knows the move Attract. Watch this useful video on how to teach egg moves.

Analysis:

The ability of Cute Charm is highly underrated, infatuating attackers. In Pokémon, infatuation means making a Pokémon under a love spell. This only works if the opposing Pokémon is the opposite gender of Slyveon. They could be 50% immobilized by love and not attack Slyveon at all.

The preferred gender for Slyveon is Female because statistically, most players get Fighting, Dragon, Bug, and Dark Types as male Pokémon.

Slyveon, as a male, is to infatuate female Fairy-Types with physical Normal-type moves, so opposing Fairy-Type attacks can’t affect it.

Advice:

Equip a Misty Seed to boost Slyveon’s Special Defense on Misty Terrain and to increase moves like Charm. The strategy behind Slyveon is to protect itself from status conditions, infatuate opponents with the move Attract, lower their Attack or Special Attack, and steal HP.

Infatuation is more successful if Slyveon is female and knows egg move, Attract.

Play around with other moves if desired, a few unique moves are:

  • Moonblast, an accurate 95 Special Attack move lowering opponent’s Special Attack stat. Keep this move if Slyveon is male.
  • Baby Doll Eyes, an accurate Special Defense move lowering an opponent’s Attack stat.
  • Misty Explosion, an accurate 100 power move as Slyveon attacks everything around it and faints using this move. This move deals more damage on Misty Terrain.
  • Alluring Voice, an accurate 80 power Special Attack confusing the opponent if the opponent boosts its stats during the turn.

Slyveon Strengths:

  • Slyveon is more powerful as a female Fairy-Type to use infatuation on male Dragon, Fighting, Dark, and Bug Pokémon. It could infatuate other male Fairy-Types.
  • The most important stats for Slyveon are its Special Defense, Attack, Special Attack, and HP. As an example…
  • Misty Terrain is an accurate Special Defense Move protecting Pokémon on the ground from status conditions and halves the damage from Dragon-Type moves for 5 turns.
  • Attract, causes Pokémon of the opposite gender to become infatuated.
  • Charm is an accurate Special Defense move harshly lowering an opponent’s Attack stat.
  • Draining Kiss is an accurate 50 power move as Slyveon heals half of its HP by stealing HP from the opponent.
