Animal Crossing: New Horizons Best Clothes
Mabel the blue hedgehog will take care of all your fashion needs.

You wouldn’t think that fashion would become so important on a desert island, but when it comes to Animal Crossing: New Horizons it is essential for the island lifestyle.

There are hundreds of pieces of clothing and different fashion combinations in the game, and they range from sleek and sophisticated to outright wacky.

There are so many ways to show off your personal style through clothing, and it’s a fun way to express your mood.

Clothing can be purchased through the Able Sisters once they open a shop on your island.

You can also download custom designs from other players, and even try your hand at fashion design with your own creations through the Customization Portal. You can find the portal in the Able Sisters’ shop, and it is also now available on your Nook phone in the game.

There are also seasonal items that are only available during certain holidays, so you are sure to be festive no matter what the occasion.

In this list, we’re going to break down the top 10 clothing items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

10. Adventure Dress

This outfit will allow you to go down the rabbit hole.

The Adventure Dress is available in the Able Sisters shop for 2,800 bells.

This dress will let you recreate the classic look from “Alice in Wonderland” when you pair it with a black pair of Mary Jane’s.

A large black bow and some white flower-patterned stockings really complete the look.

Now all you need is a picnic to recreate the iconic first few scenes from the classic book and movie.

9. Fairy-Tale Dress

8. Hot-Dog Costume

There is no way you can look at this with a straight face.

The Hot-Dog Costume is probably one of the most over-the-top pieces of clothing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it’s certainly the most hilarious.

The matching Hot-Dog Hood really adds to the silliness of the entire costume, and you can’t help but laugh when you try it on.

Originally intended to be worn on Halloween, this costume is great for whenever you just feel like being a hot dog or you need a good laugh.

What’s great about the Hot-Dog Costume:

  • It’s a simple design with maximum effect.
  • You can’t help but smile when you dress up in this costume.

7. Mariachi Clothing

Now you can finally join that Mariachi band.

The Mariachi Clothing is fully decked out in fancy trim and is available in six different colors.

The top and bottom come as one piece of clothing, and there is a separate sombrero you can purchase to complete the look.

Gift some Mariachi Clothing to your villagers and start your own band, or just be a solo act on the guitar or maracas.

What’s great about the Mariachi Clothing:

  • There’s lots of intricate details in this outfit, and it has an authentic look.

How to get the Mariachi Clothing:

6. The Wizard Robe

Too bad you can’t really cast any spells.

The Wizard Robe is another fun piece of clothing in New Horizons, and it is quite pricey at 4,000 bells.

The robe is available in two colors: purple and blue.

The matching hat is available separately for 880 bells.

This is a unique outfit in the game, as there are no villagers who wear the Wizard Robe as their default outfit.

It can be a rare find, but it is usually more readily available around October.

What’s great about the Wizard Robe:

  • With the matching hat this makes a great Halloween costume.
  • You can dress up and open your own fortune-telling stall on your island.

How to get the Wizard Robe:

  • Purchase at the Able Sisters shop for 4,000 bells.
  • Purchase the matching hat at the Able Sisters shop for 880 bells.

5. The Pirate Dress

Don’t be blunderin’ yer plunderin’.

The Pirate Dress is a difficult piece of clothing to obtain in Animal Crossing: New Horizons because it entirely depends on how often Gulivarrr visits your island and what random gift he decides to give you.

There are three different colors: black, red, and blue.

Unless you get the dress from Gullivarrr right away, you will likely have received numerous other pirate items that you can use to accessorize, such as the Eye Patch, Pirate Hat, and Pirate Boots.

Gullivarrr’s a pretty generous bird, so be sure to find his communicator whenever he washes up on your shores for a nice reward the next day.

The gifts from Gullivarrr do not repeat until you have received one of each item he has to offer, so if you want all 3 colors of this dress, you either have to find a lot of communicators for the pirate or trade with a friend.

What’s great about the Pirate Dress:

  • Great for getting in touch with your inner pirate.
  • The dress has some nice detail and it is a rare find.

How to get the Pirate Dress:

  • Help Gullivarrr find his communicator when he washes up on your island, and he will send you a random gift in the mail the next day.
  • Keep doing this until he gives you the dress.

4. Mario Outfit

It’s-a me...Mario?!

Bring out your inner plumber with this super-cool Mario Outfit.

The hat, mustache, outfit, and shoes are all available through the Nook Shop in the Promotions section.

You can also purchase complete outfits for Princess Peach, Luigi, and Wario as well as a whole range of furniture items to turn your whole island into the Mushroom Kingdom.

This collection became available with the March 2021 update of New Horizons to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of Super Mario Brothers on the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

The only downside to this collection is that there is a 5 items per day limit in the Nook Shop, so it will take you several days to acquire the whole collections. Keep this limit in mind when you are purchasing a full character outfit.

What’s great about the Mario outfit:

  • You can dress up like one of the most iconic video game characters in history.
  • Perfect for players who are nostalgic about Super Mario Brothers.

How to get the Mario outfit:

  • Purchase from the Nook Shop either through Resident Services or on your Nook Phone for 2,400 bells.

3. The Dragon Suit

Channel your inner “Kill Bill” vibes.

The Dragon Suit is bright yellow and is similar to the jumpsuit that Bruce Lee wore in the movie “Game of Death.” The iconic suit was also paid homage to by Uma Thurman in the movie “Kill Bill: Volume 1.”

The jumpsuit is a rarity that can be found in the Able Sisters shop along with the Kung Fu Shoes that complete the look.

Unfortunately, the Dragon Suit won’t actually give you Kung Fu abilities, but it is bound to impress the jock villagers on your island.

What’s great about the Dragon Suit:

  • The iconic yellow jumpsuit is similar to the one that Bruce Lee wore.
  • You can dress as Uma Thurman’s character in Kill Bill from the scene at the House of Blue Leaves.

How to get the Dragon Suit:

  • Purchase from the Able Sisters shop for 2,500 bells.

2. Grape Dress

I think my Grape Dress is the perfect disguise.

The Grape Dress is one of the many types of fruit-styled dresses available at the Able Sisters shop.

A few other variations are watermelon, kiwi, and strawberry.

The hat is sold separately, and it really is the perfect topper for the dress. Some matching purple tights and green shoes tie the look together and really sell it.

This is a great outfit for Halloween, as it is the one I chose last year and I received many compliments when I was island-hopping.

There are other fruit dresses available as crafting DIYs, and they include the peach, cherry, orange, pear, and apple. As you might have guessed, they are crafted from the fruit on your island. They also have matching hat recipes for a complete look.

What’s great about the Grape Dress:

  • It’s the perfect outfit for having fun.
  • It’s a great outfit to wear for costume parties and Halloween.

How to get the Grape Dress:

  • Purchase from the Able Sisters shop for 1,500 bells.

1. Steampunk Outfit

I’m from the past, but also the future.

The Steampunk Outfit is one of the most detailed outfits in the game with its buckles, studs, and leather accents.

The matching Steampunk Goggles add a nice finishing touch to the whole outfit, and they are equally as detailed.

Add a Tiny Satin Top Hat and some brown antique boots to really polish this look.

The outfit is available in brown with red accents and brown with purple accents.

What’s great about the Steampunk Outfit:

  • It is one of the most unique outfits in the game.
  • The clothing features incredible attention to detail.

How to get the Steampunk Outfit:

  • Purchase from the Able Sisters shop for 2,240 bells.
