Find out the best items to make on Rubick and assert your dominance!

Rubick is the only hero in Dota 2 that can steal his enemy’s spells and use them against the opposing team. As a result of this versatility, Rubick offers a lot of utility and nowadays is played both as a core and as a support. Because of this, there are a great many items you can make during the game to make your character extremely powerful and I’ll mention some of my favorites in the list below. 

15. Aether Lens

Aether Lens is a core item on Rubick as it is on many support heroes. Aether Lens increases the range of all of Rubick’s spells including those that he steals from the enemy team!

Aether Lens is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick needs to steal some of the best spells in the game but he’s also a very squishy hero so he can’t be too close to the enemy team. Aether Lens reduces this issue by giving Rubick a longer spell cast range - this allows him to steal spells from farther away.
• Even if you can’t steal a spell, Rubick also has a powerful disable, “Telekenis”, which lifts the opponent in the air. You can disable people from farther away with an Aether Lens.

Get Aether Lens if:

• You are up against a team that can nuke you if you get too close. 
• You are up against a team that has spells with a large area of effect such as Queen of Pain or Tidehunter. You can steal the spells of these kinds of heroes from far away when you have an Aether Lens.

14. Blink Dagger

Blink Dagger allows you to teleport to a point 1200 units away. Blink Dagger has a 51% win rate on Rubick and is the second most made item on the hero.

Blink Dagger is great for Rubick because:

• Blink Dagger allows Rubick to get in better positions to both steal tough-to-steal spells and cast stolen spells. 
• Blink Dagger also increases the mobility of Rubick and offers the hero an escape.

Get Blink Dagger if:

• You are against a team that is highly mobile thereby making it difficult for you to steal spells. Blink Dagger will help you not only steal their spells but also escape from them.
• You need a Blink Dagger to potentially cast some stolen spells such as Tidehunter’s Ravage spell.

13. Aghanim’s Scepter

Aghanim’s Scepter is another core item on Rubick because it allows him to steal two spells at one time and keep them in his arsenal until they time out. Aghanim’s Scepter also has a high win rate of 56% which is incredible for one item.

Aghanim’s Scepter is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick is a spell caster and relies on using the spells of the enemy team against them. With an Aghanim’s Scepter you can steal more spells and as a result, do more damage to the enemy team.
• With an Aghanim’s Scepter, Rubick also gets some more leeway during the game by giving him a second chance to steal a spell.

Get Aghanim’s Scepter if: 

• You are against a team that has a lot of high-value spells. With an Aghanim’s Scepter, you can steal multiple spells and use them against your enemies.

12. Aghanim’s Shard

Aghanim’s Shard is a very unique item for Rubick as it upgrades his Telekenis ability by reducing its’ cooldown, increasing the Telekenis lift distance, and also allowing Rubick to target allies as well as enemies. 

Aghanim’s Shard is great for Rubick because:

• It gives Rubick a unique way to disable enemies by lifting them up and dragging them to your team or alternatively pushing them away.
• You can also use the spell on your teammates to get them out of a jam or to move them closer to an enemy target.

Get Aghanim’s Shard if: 

• You are up against a team that has a lot of disables. With an Aghanim’s Shard, you can save your allies by pulling them away when they get disabled by the enemy team.

11. Force Staff

Force staff passively gives Rubick 10 Intelligence as well as 150 Health. Force staff also pushes you or any target unit 600 units in the direction you or the target unit is facing. Force staff has a 47% win rate and is made more often than not on Rubick.

Force staff is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick as a hero requires good positioning to steal spells. With a Force Staff Rubick can improve his positioning to steal spells.
• Having a Force Staff also gives you a way to get you or your allies out of a jam. 

Get Force staff if:

• You’re up against a highly mobile team that can catch you or your enemy team quickly. With a Force Staff, you can potentially get your allies out of their disables.

10. Eul’s Scepter of Divinity

Eul’s Scepter of Divinity passively gives Rubick +10 Intelligence, +2.5 Mana Generation, and +20 Movement Speed. The item also sweeps the target unit into a cyclone for 2.5 seconds during which they’re invulnerable. Eul’s has a 52% win rate on Rubick and it’s a frequently made item on the hero.

Eul’s Scepter of Divinity is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick requires intelligence and movement speed to be present in the game. Eul’s gives Rubick both of those things and nullifies any need to return to base or to be missing from action.
• Eul’s also gives you a small disable to use against the enemy team or potentially to use on yourself as a save. 

Get Eul’s Scepter of Divinity if:

• You are constantly fighting and you find yourself out of mana. Eul’s will give you a good boost both in speed and mana pool as well as mana regeneration. 
• The enemy team has disables or stuns. With a Eul’s you can potentially dodge or break free from some disables.

9. Glimmer Cape

Glimmer Cape allows you to target yourself or an allied hero giving them, after a brief delay, 5 seconds of invisibility as well as increased magic resistance while invisible. Glimmer Cape is a defensive item with a 45% win rate on Rubick however it’s an item that’s made very frequently on the hero.

Glimmer Cape is great for Rubick because:

• It gives Rubick a way to escape from any sticky situation. Similarly, Rubick can use the item on allies to give them a brief period of invisibility which can be vital to their safety. 
• Glimmer Cape also gives you magic resistance against the enemy team which can be vital to keep you and your allies alive. 

Get Glimmer Cape if: 

• You’re up against a team of spell casters that have a lot of magic damage. With a Glimmer Cape, you can stave off some of that damage.

8. Ghost Scepter

Ghost Scepter shifts your hero into an ethereal form where they can’t be attacked for 4 seconds but take amplified magical damage. Ghost Scepter has a 45% win rate on Rubick and is made often in games where the enemy team has high physical damage.

Ghost Scepter is great for Rubick because:

• If you are being targetted by a team with heavy physical damage Ghost Scepter can give you a few additional priceless seconds to cast all your spells.

Get Ghost Scepter if: 

• You’re up against a team that has physical damage heroes that can break your hero within seconds.

7. Aeon Disk

Aeon Disk gives you 75% status resistance as well as a 2.5-second buff when your health falls below 70%. Basically, it gives you a few more seconds to live if you get nuked allowing you some time to escape and live to fight another day.

Aeon Disk is great for Rubick because:

• It gives Rubick a big boost in statistics which can be helpful at any stage of the game.
• If you’re being picked off quickly before you have the time to cast your spells, an Aeon Disk can keep you alive for long enough to use all your spells.

Get Aeon Disk if:

• The team is constantly picking you off either with physical or magical damage and you aren’t able to cast all your spells before dying.

6. Ethereal Blade

Ethereal Blade is the ultimate nuke item. Aside from giving you a healthy boost in stats you can use Ethereal Blade to launch a projectile at an enemy hero that slows their movement speed by 80%, does damage, makes them unable to physically attack, and reduces their magical resistance. You can alternatively also use this on allies to give them immunity from physical attacks for a brief period. 

Ethereal Blade is great for Rubick because:

• It boosts Rubick’s magical damage on the targetted hero which allows Rubick to do a great deal of damage with his arsenal of spells.
• Rubick can also use this item on himself or his allies to save them from physical attacks for a small duration.

Get Ethereal Blade if:

• The enemy team has a lot of high damage spells. With an Ethereal Blade, you can nuke the enemy hero with your stolen spell!
• The enemy team has physical carries that can chew down any hero on your team. With an Ethereal, you can stop them from attacking for a small duration.

5. Kaya

Kaya is a fantastic item for anyone playing Rubick as a core hero. Kaya gives you a boost in intelligence and magic damage, it also amplifies all mana regeneration by 50% and gives Rubick an increase in magic lifestyle. 

Kaya is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick relies on doing damage through his array of stolen spells. With a Kaya, Rubick can deal more damage!
• Kaya also builds into multiple items that can be used in the late game. Because of this Kaya is a great first item to make when playing Rubick in the mid lane or as a core hero.

Get Kaya Blade if:

• If you’re playing Rubick as a core you should make Kaya after making your Arcane Boots. With a Kaya, you can quickly start ganking other lanes and being a force of damage in team fights.

4. Black King Bar

Black King Bar is an item that’s not often made on Rubick but later in the game, it can be considered. Black King Bar gives Rubick immunity from almost all targetted spells. 

Black King Bar is great for Rubick because:

• Rubick needs to be free from any disables to cast his spells. Black King Bar gives Rubick just that.

Get Black King Bar if:

• You’re against a team with a lot of disables. Later into the game, you can consider investing in a Black King Bar to be able to safely cast all your spells during a team fight.
• The enemy team has a lot of high-value spells that you can steal but require spell immunity to be cast safely. One example would be if you’re able to steal the Black Hole spell from Enigma; this spell can be a game-changer and having a Black King Bar would allow Rubick to cast this great safety.

3. Scythe of Vyse

Scythe of Vyse can be used to disable a target by turning it into a critter for 3.5 seconds. Scythe of Vyse is the best disabling item in all of Dota 2 and as such has a high win rate (56%) on Rubick. However, since it’s an item you need to be close to use and so it’s not always a must-make item on Rubick.

Scythe of Vyse is great for Rubick because:

• It gives Rubick an additional disable against pesky mobile heroes. After disabling the enemy hero you can then use all your stolen spells on them.  

Get Scythe of Vyse if:

• There are mobile heroes in the team that you are unable to catch such as Storm Spirit or Anti mage. WIth a Scythe of Vyse, you have a dedicated disable that you can use to immobilize your enemy for a small duration.

2. Refresher Orb

Refresher Orb, aside from the boost in statistics, refreshes all of your items and abilities when activated allowing you to use all of them again. Refresher Orb has a 60% win rate on Rubick which is quite high. That said this item requires a lot of gold and isn’t always an item required in every game which is why it’s not made in a lot of games. 

Refresher Orb is great for Rubick because: 

• Rubick relies on using high-value stolen spells on the enemy team. Many such spells are absolute game changers e.g. Ravage or Blackhole. With a Refresher Orb, you can cast them twice and change the scope of the game.

Get Refresher Orb if:

• You should only consider making this later in the game when you’ve made most of your core items. If you’re against a team that has spells that can disable heroes in an AOE such as Black Hole or Ravage then you can consider getting a Refresher Orb to steal these spells and use them twice on the enemy team.

1. Rod of Atos

Rod of Atos is a great item to make on any support hero because it can be made from small components and when completed it not only offers a healthy boost in stats but also a 2-second disable. 

Rod of Atos is great for Rubick because:

It boosts Rubick’s stats for a small cost which can be very helpful early in the game.
It gives Rubick another disable to use against the enemy team and potentially helps Rubick steal a spell from a fleeing enemy. 

Get Rod of Atos if:

If you are against a team with highly mobile heroes you can use Atos to disable them.
Similarly, if you are against a team that has spells that need to be challenged. You can use Atos to disrupt these heroes and as a result, cancel out their spells.
