Guild Wars 2 Best Race For Each Class

Guild Wars 2 Best Race
Let us help you pick the right race for your class!

Before we start with the article, there is one thing to put out there - the race you pick has NO implications to the actual gameplay BESIDES aesthetics, story and a few racial skills.

Each race has 6 unique racial skills - these include healing, utility and elite skills.

These racial skills cannot be used in Structured PvP, underwater. Oh, and Revenants also don’t have access to them as Revenant Healing, utility and Elite skills depend on the Legend which is being channelled.

All of these suggestions are simply that - suggestions as to what we think is the best fit regarding profession and race. This is meant to be a fun article and ignite the spark of genuine conversation.

With that being said, let’s get to it!

Asura - Engineer

Asura Engineer - who better to understand all the tech & kits other that the genius Asura?Asura Engineer - who better to understand all the tech & kits other than the genius Asura?

I don’t know what it is about asuras - maybe their appearance just screams tech genius.

For Asuras, to us it is most compelling to picture them with either a Scrapper hammer or an Engineer Kit in their hands, always calculating the distances needed to be reached in the order to successfully eliminating all the enemies.

We respect when people play their Asuras however they like - heck, even Zojja is an Elementalist. Warriors and Thieves are good picks, too.

Still… how better to convey the whole idea behind the Asuran genius than an Engineer? Who better to display the art of engineering than these little fellows with big minds?

Who is more capable of constructing and engineering all those kits and gyros if not a complex minded genius of the Rata Sum?

And as a bonus, if you opt to go for Holosmith, you actually get a red light sabre - good ol’ Yoda switching to the dark side, huh?

Why Asura is a great Engineer:

  • Everything about them screams (or rather calmly states) technological genius
  • The idea of them engineering anything from simple constructs to whole city infrastructures is rather pleasant
  • They are the race that looks best with Engineer tech, kits and cosmetics

Sylvari - Ranger

The Sylvari Ranger - Arguably no better race-class combo out there

The Sylvari Ranger - Arguably no better race-class combo out there

It is ultimately their bond with nature that got us to pair these two.

Sylvari - is technically born of Nature - the Pale Tree. Their plant-like appearance gives out the impression that they are in bond with nature, too.

Rangers - since the main factor here is the relation to nature, what profession is more related to nature than a Ranger? Just look at the Druid elite specialization and you will see what we mean.

So, what is the brightest image that comes to our mind when we picture this bond of a Sylvari Ranger?

Either a Sylvari Druid, wielding a staff and accompanied by a Brown Bear.

Or a Sylvari Soulbeast, carrying a shortbow and daggers with a Sylvan hound by their side.

Something about these makes deep sense to us.

Why Sylvari is a great Ranger:

  • Their common aspect - nature - makes perfect sense here
  • A very natural fit (pun intended)
  • Aesthetically quite a reasonable decision - Sylvaris and Druids look like they were made for each other

Human - Warrior

The Human Warrior - aptly represented by Logan Thackeray one of the iconic Guild Wars 2 charactersThe Human Warrior - aptly represented by Logan Thackeray one of the iconic Guild Wars 2 characters

Oh yes, our well known and beloved Human. Most MMORPGs seem to have this one readily available at the start of any adventure. It is the fail-safe, go-to no-brainer race for everyone. It is almost iconic.

Hmm, iconic, safe, no-brainer… What class would you picture, given those adjectives?

If you are anything like us, you might say Warrior. Yes, the most simple and basic class to choose. The choice of this class for new players seems almost as simple as drinking some water when thirsty… or choosing a Human as the race for your first character.

Whether it is Core Warrior, Berserker or Spellbreaker - all of these are a perfect match for our Human adventurer. It all just kind of fits, you know.

Why Human is a great Warrior:

  • Both are super straightforward and newbie-friendly
  • Both are the most preferred in their own category (Warrior - most created profession; Human - most created race)
  • A simple bond that simply works - in all aspects.

Norn - Guardian

The Norn Guardian - who better to protect their allies than a mighty and robust Norn? The Norn Guardian - who better to protect their allies than a mighty and robust Norn?

What comes to mind when you picture a Guardian? Maybe someone of a towering body posture, someone that looks like shielding you when the battle comes calling.

Someone with head held high, someone who looks as though they can punch a hole through walls, someone who might stomp the wild creatures into the dusty ground below their feet, someone who just might withstand a few more hits and blows than your average Joe…

Someone… enough of that. We see a Norn as that someone. Is intimidating? Check. Is well-built? Check. Looks like a mountain of strength? Check.

Norn is, in our eyes, the perfect match for Guardian.

Also, the blue-coloured theme of Guardians goes so well together with the Shiverpeak snow of Norns.

Why Norn is a great Guardian:

  • They intimidate foes and reassure allies with how they hold themselves
  • Powerful enough to have what it takes to qualify as a Guardian
  • Insightful enough to have what it takes to be a scholar (which most Guardians are)

Charr - Revenant

The Charr Revenant - Follow in footsteps of Rytlock, the warrior who has returned from the Mists and became the Revenant! The Charr Revenant - Follow in footsteps of Rytlock, the warrior who has returned from the Mists and became the Revenant!

The word itself - Revenant - evokes return. It is to be in correlation with Rytlock (who is what race, again?) from the Mists.

So we are looking for someone who looks as though they might have gone to the Mists through unconventional means and then return.

Return as an even stronger, newborn version of themselves. As though someone already strong and capable has ventured into the abyss of Hell.

And then came back strong and able to tell tales about the adventures they had there.

The Charr seem to be perfect for this. With their already monstrous appearance (no offence, charr friends) and intimidating posture and attitude, who better to delve into the unknown depths (or heights) of the Mists.

Why is Charr a great Revenant:

  • Strong as it is, even stronger as a Revenant
  • Looks like they can handle the weight of going through the Mists
  • Their personality seems very similar to that of a Revenant

Conclusion

In this article, we talked about what classes / professions go well with what races.

Let us remind you - what race you pick really has only a minor impact on your gameplay and ZERO practical impact on the profession you choose to play.

Do you agree with our picks? Would you switch them around or perhaps completely change them?
