Spider-Man Powers and Abilities

Spider-Man Overview

Bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker went from a High School Outcast to one of America’s most iconic Superheroes.  Fueled by the death of his Uncle Ben, Spider-Man would swing valiantly through the sky, scale the tallest building, and utilize his Spidey Sense to seek out and stop crime.  From teen nerd to an icon, Spider-Man is a symbol for everyone.

Freddy Krueger Powers and Abilities

Freddy Krueger Overview

Hands down the most creative of all the serial killers.  Freddy Krueger has the haunting ability to invade and kill people within their dreams.  Morphing into what his victims fear most, he’s brutally dispatched teens in a variety of colorful ways.  Freddy’s made people overdose, exploited their medical weaknesses, pulled them into televisions and beds, and turned them into bugs!  The guy’s a dreamy lunatic who’s all about creativity!

How the Battle Would Go Down

Now, this is an interesting predicament for Everyone’s Favorite Neighborhood Spider-Man.  The question here is, does Spider-Man’s abilities transition into his dreams?  I’m not entirely sure this situation has been touched upon in the comic’s but we all know that Freddy Kreuger hasn’t dealt with a superhero…I mean there’s Jason, but I’m not entirely sure he counts.  On the surface I want to give this fight to Spider-Man…but let’s cover this topic with some detail to find out who would best who.

Krueger is only a true threat in the town of Springwood, so the chances of him attacking Peter Parker in New York are slim.  This provides for a curious little predicament, if Parker were to go to Springwood, that would mean he’d be going in with some preparations and precautions, it would imply that Peter knew about Krueger and how much of a danger he was.  If Peter figured out how to utilize his powers within the dream world then this is probably a loss in Krueger’s book.

So, let’s ease up on the rules a little bit to make this a little bit more interesting.  Let’s say Freddy can extend himself a bit and does make his way to New York.  Let’s say he invades Peter’s dreams one night and does pose himself as a terrifying opponent to Peter Parker.  Now, over his illustrious and creative career, we’ve seen Freddy do some insane things.  He can utilize his opponent’s fears and screw with their minds in ways they’ve never experienced.  Spider-Man has taken on an impressive amount of foes and stood victorious, but he’s never had to deal with someone in his dreams.  If Freddy gets the jump on Peter, there’s no guarantee that he can use his powers in the dream world.  There isn’t even a guarantee that Peter can control his dreams, nothing in his history says he’s a professional lucid dreamer.  If the fight were to go down like this then Peter is dead meat for The Springwood Slasher.  Peter’s only saving grace…and this is a HUGE one, is his Spidey-Sense.  I haven’t read it, but I’m sure it exists, I’m almost positive some of Spidey’s foes have tried to get the upper hand on him while he was asleep, but his Spidey-Sense would kick in and save him.  I think that could happen here.

If Peter manages to survive the first encounter with Freddy, then that would give him some prep time.  I could see him talking to Doctor Strange about it or maybe even talking to Freddy’s past survivors for some Q&A.  We’ve seen regular, powerless teenagers defeat Freddy, figuring out his weakness (fire) and using it against him, we’ve seen people reverse Freddy’s powers on himself, so Peter has a strong fighting chance.  If he fears the repercussions of sleep then he can get Mary Jane to keep a watchful eye on him.  But again, this is all under circumstance.

This is a tough call.  If Freddy can successfully kill Spider-Man in his dream then it’s a no-brainer victory for the serial killer.  But…there’s a very strong chance that Spidey would be saved by his Spidey-Sense, which would give him a huge upper hand.  Some preparations with fellow survivors and superheroes are all The Web-Head needs to prevail in spades.

Sooo…

With that said…Draw.

And the Winner Is…

DRAW.  This is a first!  It’s all a matter of circumstance and I don’t think one fighter has a true upper hand over the other.  If Kruger can one-shot kill Spidey then it goes to him, but if Spidey’s Spidey-Sense kicks into high gear and gives him a second chance it goes to The Web-Head.  I’m calling it…no-decision.
