The new PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game which is set for release during the first half of 2018 (no exact date has been announced yet) has the largest production team ever for American video game developer Insomniac Games. In 2014 Marvel Games approached Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and wanted them to publish a Marvel game exclusively for PS4 and give it top priority in terms of production and finance. Now almost 4 years later the game seems very far into its development, but we will have to wait for the final product to see if their work and collaboration has paid off.

The game, which has been in development for almost 4 years will be the first big franchise to be developed by Insomniac (Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive) and it will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The community manager of Insomniac Games confirmed that they are using Sunset Overdrive's modified game engine and it has been said that the game will “cover both the Peter Parker and Spider-Man aspects of the character and will feature a more experienced Spider-Man.”

In an E3 PlayStation interview with Bill Rosemann from Marvel he said it was “ The most ambitious game yet.” The game will tell a new story about Spider-Man that is not tied to any current film or comic book.

During an E3 2017 interview with Brian Intihar (one of the directors for Spider-Man) he said “we want to create our own Spider-Man Universe, we didn’t want to tie it to a particular movie or comic series”, and also that “Marvel totally embraced that” he then went on to say in his personal blog that “From our first meeting, Marvel, Spider-Man and Insomniac have felt like a match made in heaven.”
