So many LEGO games, so little time. Which are the let downs and which are a sure win? Here are the top 10 best LEGO games you can get the most fun out of your buck.
10. Lego Worlds (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch)

Lego World's promotional poster
2017’s Lego Worlds is a sandbox style video game, which allows the player to build an endless amount of buildings and structures within their own digital world. From skyscrapers, to forests, to your own corner of paradise, there is always something to build or explore.
Various terrains offer new opportunities and items to create objects, such as the desert or the tundra. And the inclusion of online multiplayer allows you to share your creations with your friends.
The largest problem I have with this game is how similar it is to another sandbox game with the same ‘block’ style charm. Lego Worlds focuses more on the exploration of the open world whereas its competitor relies more heavily on finding resources and building.
Having said that, this is an extremely enjoyable game that breaks the status quo of other LEGO games released in the same time period. A gamble by LEGO which for sure, paid off.
So if exploration is more your thing, this game is definitely a worthwhile investment. And it’ll save you money on physical LEGO sets – so bonus!
With that, Lego Worlds earns the number 10 spot.
9. Lego Dimensions (Playstation 3/Playstation 4/Wii U/Xbox 360/Xbox One)

If you think Avengers: Endgame was the biggest crossover in history, Lego Dimensions puts it to shame. With various worlds spread across modern pop culture, it’s a wild ride. Join Batman, Gandalf the Grey and Wyldstyle as they jump through our favourite fandoms to collect the ‘key elements’ to defeat the evil Vortech. Along the way they meet famous media icons such as Homer Simpson, The Doctor and Scooby-Doo.
This game follows the general trend of LEGO game stories, but with a twist. The player can summon in different characters via a physical LEGO structure that comes with the original game. It sounds like this game has it all, so why is it not ranked higher on our list? In the simplest words - the cost of it all.
We can imagine this game was every parent’s worst nightmare. The starter pack containing the game, character portal and three storyline characters cost around $100, depending on your chosen retailer. Already an absurd price as many other LEGO games were considerably cheaper for a similar gameplay experience.
To top it all, it was impossible to 100% complete the game with just the starter pack as it left many areas unreachable. Not even the Bat-utility belt could access every part of the game. Additional figurines were released between 2015 and 2017 for players to 100% the game, and also burn a hole in their pocket.
Because of how much it costs to fully enjoy this game compared to other LEGO titles, Lego Dimensions only reaches our number 9 spot. A sad conclusion for an otherwise amazing game.
8. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 3/Playstation 4/Playstation Vita/Wii U/Xbox 360/Xbox One/Nintendo 3DS/Android/iOS/OS X)

Batman 3: Beyond Gotham's box art.
The third in the Lego Batman trilogy truly lives up to its name and takes the players past Gotham to other worlds to stop Brainiac from using the power rings of the seven Lantern Corps to shrink planet Earth.
This addition to the Lego Batman games has you playing as both heroes and villains in the main story, which isn’t the first or last time for Lego DC, but it is just as fun nonetheless.
Sometimes the lack of seriousness is hit or miss and the open world isn’t as extensive as its predecessor, but then again, we do get to see Batman and Joker dress up as each other and recreate scenes from Adam West’s Batman, so that just goes to show what I know. These moments alone sold me on the game.
With the wide range of platforms available to play on, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is a good contender for one of the top LEGO video games, but the shadow it lives in from the first two of the series leaves it sitting at number 8 in our list.
7. Lego City Undercover (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 4/Xbox One/Wii U/Nintendo Switch)

Chase McCain in Lego City Undercover.
It’s no secret LEGO is known for making adaptations of pre-existing titles, so it’s a surprise to see more than one non-licensed property make the top 10. Based in the world of The Lego Movie we play as Officer Chase McCain, an undercover cop determined to take down dastardly criminal Rex Fury.
The game’s story is surprisingly sweet at times and is refreshing compared to LEGO’s licensed titles. Without the expectations that come with adapting a fandom’s characters and storyline, you’re able to jump into this game without fear of it being unfaithful to the original material and just have fun with it.
With the various platforms Lego City Undercover is available on, the use of multiplayer heavily influences which console you buy this game for. The Wii U’s 2013 release is single player mode only, whereas all other consoles from the 2017 re-release include the traditional multiplayer option.
Lego City Undercover is our number 7 with its witty dialogue, crisp graphics and compelling story. A sign LEGO is more than capable of creating original games as well as licensed properties.
6. Lego Harry Potter Collection (Playstation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch)

Experience the wonders of the wizarding world come to life in LEGO form. With all years available in one game, this is the perfect game for anyone who believes in magic.
Play as the Golden Trio, Dumbledore, Snape, as well as many other characters as you make your way through the story of young Harry’s time at Hogwarts and help him ultimately defeat the evil Voldemort!
You can clearly see the heart that has gone into this game from the mind-blowing landscapes - from Hogwarts itself, to Diagon Alley and Malfoy Manor. There’s always something new to find (so long as you don’t get lost on the way!)
The Lego Harry Potter Collection is a combined game of the previous instalments in the Lego Harry Potter series - ‘years 1-4’ and ‘years 5-7’. No longer do we have to choose which years we’d rather play and can instead enjoy all of them on one disc.
Both ‘years 1-4’ and ‘years 5-7’ are available on more platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Android and the Wii, but only as individual games which are more costly. The limited number of consoles in exchange for an overall cheaper game is a worthwhile investment to delve into the world of wizarding and witchcraft.
A solid 6th place in our top 10.
5. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 3/Playstation Vita/ Wii/Wii U/Xbox 360/Nintendo DS/Nintendo 3DS/ Android/iOS/OS X)

Batman, Superman and Robin.
The standard for LEGO games reached new heights in 2012 with the release of Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Not only was the storyline and humour on point with other LEGO titles, Lego Batman 2 was the first LEGO game to include dialogue and open world gameplay. Gone were the traditional voice mumbles and tiny hub worlds.
We follow Batman and Robin teaming up with Superman and the rest of the league to defeat the Joker and Lex Luthor who are reigning terror over Gotham. Despite being considered the weakest of the three LEGO Batman titles story-wise, this game more than makes up for it with its sleek graphics, design of the open world and the vast amount of additional gameplay it provided.
As an avid Batman fan, being able to traverse Gotham as my favourite characters from both the original game and DLC, this game was a treat to play. The dynamic between Batman and Superman is peak LEGO humour.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes settles in comfortably at number 5 for revolutionising LEGO games and shaping our games today.
4. Lego Marvel Superheroes (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 3/Playstation 4/Playstation Vita/Wii U/Xbox 360/Xbox One/Nintendo DS/Nintendo 3DS/Nintendo Switch/Android/iOS/OS X)

A collection of Marvel's best characters, featured in the game.
The first of the Lego Marvel games is considered to be the best of the three for many people. Play as heroes from the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four to stop Galactus from feasting on Earth.
The humour in this game is some of LEGO’s best and will leave you in stitches before the levels even begin. With many characters styled after their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts, there are both old and new friends to play as.
As an experienced Marvel fan, I was surprised at the diverse cast of characters available in free play and found myself learning many new heroes and villains. Having played Lego Avengers before this game, I enjoyed the original script and extended character roster available.
Plus you have Spiderman as a playable character swinging around New York, what else could you want?
Lego Marvel Superheroes just misses the podium at number 4.
3. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 3/Wii/Xbox 360/Nintendo DS/Android/iOS/Mac OS X)

Similar to the Lego Harry Potter Collection, this is the full instalment of the first two Lego Star Wars games, cult classics for all LEGO and Star Wars fans alike.
Ignite your lightsabers, draw your blasters and be one with the force. With updated graphics and additional characters, The Complete Saga takes you through the original and prequel trilogies of the franchise.
Seen as being the most well-known game from the LEGO games, it is clear to see why it is still talked about and played today. Unique levels with the narrative clearly portrayed with funny skits bring the game to life before jumping into a galaxy far far away…
If possible, this game is more suited for the controls of a console rather than a PC or mobile device, but is still a great game to play on any platform regardless.
And I definitely did not cry at the death of Lego Qui-Gon Jinn.
Third place, this game is.
2. Lego DC Super-Villains (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch/Mac OS)

The third DC game to make this list and for good reason. Play as the rogues gallery as they defend their title as the baddest of the bad, while also somehow managing to save the world. Quite the ironic twist.
Lego DC Super-Villains broke the mould with their gameplay when compared to previous games. While custom characters have frequently been available for the free play versions of levels, now we can design our own characters that are fully involved with the game’s story and franchise characters. This was a feature I enjoy very much and have a lot of fun on my replays of the game.
The choice to join the Justice League or become the new leader of the Legion of Doom is a decision only you can make. Which will you decide?
Lego DC Super-Villains is our runner up for the best LEGO game for its hilarious dialogue and truly captivating storyline along with beautiful animation.
1. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Microsoft Windows/Playstation 4/Playstation 5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S/Nintendo Switch)

The title page for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Was there ever any doubt this was the number one LEGO game? The newest addition to the LEGO family was a much anticipated game that lets players explore the whole galaxy and all three trilogies.
With the largest open world in any LEGO game and the biggest roster of characters, there is no room for doubt that this is an amazing game with hours upon hours of fun.
There is always something to do in this game with any of your favourite characters. And you can ride gonk droids. This game truly has it all. A love letter to the Star Wars series and its fans, a game LEGO should be proud of. The future of LEGO games has a lot to live up to.
