Let's talk about a contentious champion who has divided opinion in the community. Lux is Garen's hotter sister, and she adores bad boys like Sylas. Demacia is completely opposed to people who use magic, but she doesn't care and just casts her spells. You can play her as a support or a mid-laner, depending on your preference. Most people queue up in the middle but receive support. In this game, you can never get what you want.
Her abilities revolve entirely around casting spells and controlling crowds while also dealing damage. Her Q “Light Binding” and E “Lucent Singularity” are excellent for crowd control, as her Q roots and her E slows people. Her W “Prismatic Barrier” grants everyone a shield that is caught by it, and her R “Final Spark” is a laser ability that goes through anything and anyone, and the damage does not diminish regardless of how many people you hit with it. Because you can't get gold fast enough to buy items, playing the supporting role may be a little more difficult than playing the mid-lane.
However, you can always use your abilities to steal kills and claim that it was an accident. Also, don't underestimate this champion because every skill in her arsenal is a skill shot, and she lacks abilities that allow her to increase movement speed or give a simple dash. It's difficult to avoid someone who gets close to your face. Yozu is the best player of Lux and has the widest knowledge about her abilities. If you want to learn how this champion works, I recommend watching his gameplay. You'll learn a lot.
5. Shielding Build
The first build we'll look at is the maximum shielding power. It's a support build, as you might expect, and don't expect to deal a ton of damage with it; that's not the point. The main point of this build is to protect your friends from death during a fight. You will have to predict where your teammates will go next at times, or you will completely miss your W “Prismatic Barrier”.
The first ability to max is W, but if you're not facing a hard poke, you can also put 3 points in E “Lucent Singularity” during the laning phase. If you're playing against an aggressive opponent, you'll want to max out your W “Prismatic Barrier” as soon as possible so you can protect your ADC while farming. You'll make their lives a lot easier. The point of this build and its greatest strengths is in shielding your teammates and protecting them. It’s a full support build.
Use This Build If:
- You are playing against a very aggressive lane or your opponent can poke you a lot.
- This is a max shielding build and it entirely focuses on supporting your team during team fights.
- You can put three points into your E “Lucent Singularity” with this build to poke the enemy laner if it’s the right match-up.
- You will be using your W “Prismatic Barrier” to shield your teammates from taking damage.
Runes:
Inspiration:
- Glacial Augment
- Magical Footwear
- Biscuit Delivery
- Cosmic Insight
Domination:
- Zombie Ward
- Ingenious Hunter
Abilities:
Level 1: Lucent Singularity
Level 2: Light Binding
Level 3-5: Prismatic Barrier
Level 6: Final Spark
Level 7: Prismatic Barrier
Level 8: Lucent Singularity
Level 9: Prismatic Barrier
Level 10: Lucent Singularity
Level 11: Final Spark
Level 12-13: Lucent Singularity
Level 14-15: Light Binding
Level 16: Final Spark
Level 17-18: Light Binding
Analysis Of Abilities Allocation:
As this is a full support build, your main focus will be shielding your allies rather than dealing damage. If you're not facing an aggressive opponent, you can change up your ability allocation by putting three points into your E “Lucent Singularity”. It's sufficient to have one point in your Q “Lighting Binding” because this ability is only good for rooting enemies.
Items (are sorted from the early game to the late game):
Spell Thief’s Edge, Two Health Potions, Boots, Pink Ward, Ioania’s Boots Of Lucidity, Bandleglass Mirror, Moonstone Renewer, Shards Of True Ice, Staff Of Flowing Water, Ardent Censer, and Redemption.
4. Buffing Allies Build
Given that the previous build was entirely focused on shielding people, why not improve the damage to your carries? That will be possible with a single mythic item called "Imperial Mandate," and your entire build will revolve around it. Every time you slow or root someone, the enemies are marked for 4 seconds and take extra damage from anyone on your team during that time. It's an interesting addition to the game.
Some may argue that this is the best item for Lux right now, but it truly depends on the match and who you're facing. If your team lacks carries or anyone to deal damage while the target is marked, this item can have a negative impact on the game. However, the best part is that this item increases your damage output, so don't be afraid to use some AP items as well. But only if your ADC is unable to perform its duties. The build excels in improving the damage to your team.
Use This Build If:
- This build allows you to build some AP items.
- It increases the damage the marked enemies take for the next four seconds.
- Great for snowballing games if you get the mythic item early.
Runes:
Sorcery:
- Arcane Comet
- Manaflow Band
- Transcendence
- Scorch
Inspiration:
- Magical Footwear
- Cosmic Insight
Abilities:
Level 1: Lucent Singularity
Level 2: Light Binding
Level 3: Prismatic Barrier
Level 4-5: Lucent Singularity
Level 6: Final Spark
Level 7: Lucent Singularity
Level 8: Prismatic Barrier
Level 9: Lucent Singularity
Level 10: Prismatic Barrier
Level 11: Final Spark
Level 12: Lucent Singularity
Level 13-14: Prismatic Barrier
Level 15: Light Binding
Level 16: Final Spark
Level 17-18: Light Binding
Analysis Of Abilities Allocation:
You should begin by maxing out your E “Lucent Singularity” first, then your W “Prismatic Barrier” second. You're still playing the support build, but you're dealing more damage than before thanks to the item "Imperial Mandate." Your Q “Light Binding” remains unchanged because it is only useful for rooting people.
Items (are sorted from the early game to the late game):
Spell Thief’s Edge, Two Health Potions, Boots, Pink Ward, Bandleglass Mirror, Imperial Mandate, Ioania’s Boots Of Lucidity, Shards Of True Ice, Staff Of Flowing Water, Chemtech Putrifier, and Ardent Censer.
3. Glass Cannon
Here we have one of the most popular champion builds, Lux, with full AP support. This is why many people dislike having Lux as a support. With this build, you'll deal more damage than your ADC and get the kill 60% of the time. As a result, they may flame you and accuse you of being poor support. Ignore those who have no idea what they're talking about.
What this build suffers the most from is a lack of gold to purchase your items. But don't worry, because you can use the "First Strike" rune to gain gold every time you attack someone. However, accidentally stealing kills will be the best source of income. This build deals a lot of damage and is great at bursting down enemies. You don't use any healing or shielding items and instead, focus solely on gaining AP and that’s what it’s great at.
Use This Build If:
- If your team doesn’t require shielding or any healing or any kind of help.
- The build is great for bursting down enemies.
- You’re playing against a squishy enemy team that you can easily kill.
- You will be able to get a decent amount of gold.
Runes:
Inspiration:
- First Strike
- Magical Footwear
- Future’s Market
- Cosmic Insight
Domination:
- Cheap Shot
- Treasure Hunter
Abilities:
Level 1: Lucent Singularity
Level 2: Light Binding
Level 3: Lucent Singularity
Level 4: Prismatic Barrier
Level 5: Lucent Singularity
Level 6: Final Spark
Level 7: Lucent Singularity
Level 8: Light Binding
Level 9: Lucent Singularity
Level 10: Light Binding
Level 11: Final Spark
Level 12-13: Light Binding
Level 14-15: Prismatic Barrier
Level 16: Final Spark
Level 17-18: Prismatic Barrier
Analysis Of Abilities Allocation:
Because this build is entirely focused on dealing damage and gaining as much AP as possible, you will forget about maxing out your W “Prismatic Barrier”. The first two abilities you will max out are E “Lucent Singularity” and Q “Light Binding”. Your E is an excellent source of damage, and your Q is excellent at preventing people from moving away from you. Your R “Final Spark” will also shred through the enemies, leaving only ashes behind.
Items (are sorted from the early game to the late game):
Speel Thief’s Edge, Two Health Potions, Boots, Lost Chapter, Luden’s Temptest, Sorcerer's Shoes, Shadowflame, Rabbadon’s Deathcap, and Void Staff.
2. Against Tanks
This build can be played in the mid-lane or as a support, and it works best against a specific team composition, which is tanks. If you were a first or second pick in the lobby and the opposing team went with 2-3 tanks or bruisers, this build is highly recommended. With this one, you'll be able to melt their skin off and kill them. But if you go the Luden's Tempest route, don't expect much.
Most of the time, your abilities will feel like mosquito bites, so to avoid that, construct this. You will still deal damage with this one, possibly even more because your damage will be determined by the enemy's HP. The more HP they have, the more damage you'll deal to them. And, because most tanks are immobile, getting to you to stop you from killing them will be difficult. That’s the most excellent thing about this build.
Use This Build If:
- If you are playing against a heavy team composition.
- If the enemy team has a lot of magic resistance and a ton of HP.
- The more HP they have the more damage you’ll deal with this build.
- You can build this as a mid-laner or as a support it works both ways.
Runes:
Inspiration:
- First Strike
- Magical Footwear
- Future’s Market
- Cosmic Insight
Domination:
- Cheap Shot
- Treasure Hunter
Abilities:
Level 1: Lucent Singularity
Level 2: Light Binding
Level 3: Lucent Singularity
Level 4: Prismatic Barrier
Level 5: Lucent Singularity
Level 6: Final Spark
Level 7: Lucent Singularity
Level 8: Light Binding
Level 9: Lucent Singularity
Level 10: Light Binding
Level 11: Final Spark
Level 12-13: Light Binding
Level 14-15: Prismatic Barrier
Level 16: Final Spark
Level 17-18: Prismatic Barrier
Analysis Of Abilities Allocation:
The build path is the same as before. When you go full AP Lux, there isn't much of a difference in ability allocation. She's still a threat who melts people with light, so use your E “Lucent Singularity” first, then your Q “Light Binding”, and finally your W “Prismatic Barrier. By killing the enemy, you are still assisting your team. If there is no opposition, the victory is simple.
Items (are sorted from the early game to the late game):
Doran’s Ring/Spell Thief’s Shield (depending on your role), Two Health Potions, Boots, Lost Chapter, Fiendish Codex, Liandry’s Anguish, Sorcerer’s Shoes, Demonic Embrace, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Void Staff, and Shadowflame.
1. Burst Build
This build will only leave ashes in its wake. It's that strong, and it works best against a squishy team. If you're up against a tank-heavy team, refer to the build at the number two spot. Lux's burst potential is maximized in this build. During the later stages of a match, you will be able to effectively kill enemies by using your ultimate ability alone or your standard combo E>Q>R.
This build excels at destroying the enemy backline and the whole team if they aren't paying attention during team fights. Keep in mind that your ultimate ability can go through anything, and with this build, you can effectively one-shot them from afar, resulting in your team winning the team fight. It is also very effective at stealing objectives from the opposing team, such as Dragons or Barons.
Use This Build If:
- You are playing against a squishy team composition.
- This build maximizes the burst potential of Lux.
- If the enemy starts building magic resistance make it a priority to buy Voidstaff.
- You can kill the enemy ADC with a single ultimate ability if you manage to hit them.
- Easy to steal objectives.
Runes:
Domination:
- Electrocute
- Cheap Shot
- Eyeball Collection
- Ultimate Hunter
Precision:
- Presence Of Mind
- Coup De Grace
Abilities:
Level 1: Lucent Singularity
Level 2: Light Binding
Level 3: Lucent SingularityE
Level 4: Prismatic Barrier
Level 5: Lucent Singularity
Level 6: Final Spark
Level 7: Lucent Singularity
Level 8: Light Binding
Level 9: Lucent Singularity
Level 10: Light Binding
Level 11: Final Spark
Level 12-13: Light Binding
Level 14-15: Prismatic Barrier
Level 16: Final Spark
Level 17-18: Prismatic Barrier
Analysis Of Abilities Allocation:
Because this is a build centered on maximizing Lux's burst damage, you'll be maxing out your E “Lucent Singularity” and Q “Light Binding”. E first because it deals more damage and slows people, followed by Q because it has a shorter cooldown. If you're playing against an aggressive opponent during the laning phase, you can put a few points into W “Prismatic Barrier” for extra shields.
Items (are sorted from the early game to the late game):
Dark Seal, Three Health Potions, Boots, Lost Chapter, Luden’s Tempest, Sorcerer’s Shoes, Shadowflame, Rabadon’s Deathcap, Horizon Focus/Mejai’s Soulstealer (go Mejai’s if you are snowballing), and Voidstaff.
