Reddit League of Legends: 21 Best Threads Every LOL Player Should Read

The subreddit to end all subreddits...

What should you do when you’re tired of reading angry messages from salty players in-game?

Go read angry messages from salty players on Reddit; at least they’re funny.

But really, Reddit is one of the liveliest League communities there is in the e-scape, and some of the threads there will assuredly leave you with a new thought or two.

21. The fact that Trinkets go on cooldown when upgraded feels like a punishment.

Check it out here.

Are you one of the many people who bemoans the cooldown of trinkets? Then this submission is for you, because there’s plenty of lively discussion about ways that Riot can change the trinket cooldowns. Not to mention that you’ll have a few chuckles along the way when you read some of the comments.

20. Dota 2 just released their custom game information and wow , Makes you wonder what League could offer with a custom game set like theirs

Check it out here.

Have you ever thought about trying DOTA? Then maybe this self post can convince you – or not. Come join the animated discussion about the merits of DOTA’s newest custom game option (and complain about Riot a little while you’re at it)!

19. Riot isn't sitting on their hands, but it certainly feels like it, and it's super frustrating.

Check it out here.

If you have a bone or two to pick with the way Riot’s been handling their works-in-progress recently, this submission may be of interest to you. Read through the comments and you’ll find plenty of suggestions for ways that Riot can roll out new updates, as well as plenty of discussion about the LoL community itself and the way it handles radio silence from the people up top at Riot.

18. Instant recall glitch with Riven with a W-Q combo

Check it out here.

We all want to have a good laugh once in a while, right? This is one of the funniest threads I’ve read in a long time – while it’s not necessarily “productive” in terms of expanding your knowledge, it’s lighthearted and definitely worth a read. (Trolls and sarcasm galore… Need I say more?)

17. At 640 rp, aren't ward skins a little overpriced?

Check it out here.

We’re not all made of money, so at some point buying skins to deck out our champions and our wards gets a little pricey and over our heads. This thread hosts a hilarious discussion about the pros and cons of buying ward skins (who’s going to see the skins, anyway, if all you’re going to do is put them in the jungle or in the bushes?), so if you’re looking for some venting about expensive skins or just some good old sarcastic fun, the comments are worth a glance.

16. Can we stop getting threatened with a ban when we try to leave our own solo custom games?

Check it out here.

Ah, the universally-feared ban… This thread brings up some good points about Riot’s in-game interface – if you’re playing a custom game, why does the system automatically threaten you with a leaver’s ban? The subject matter of this thread is fairly straightforward, but some of the comments might leave you with an amused smile on your face.

15. Champion Reveal: Tahm Kench, the River King

Check it out here.

If you didn’t know that a new champion was released, I pity you. If you don’t know how to play him, though, I don’t blame you. This thread has some helpful information and tips on how to play Tahm Kench, and it even has some giggles for you if you read the comments for long enough.

14. RiotLyte on why LoL still doesn't have voice chat.

Check it out here.

This post links to some rather depressing statistics about the level of player abuse that occurs when players are able to voice chat with strangers on their teams. Riot explains very succinctly their reasoning behind the lack of voice chat in League, and you might be interested in what they have to say. Also, the comments serve up their own brand of humor.

13. How a support is born

Check it out here.

I’m a fanart geek, so I threw this thread in because the art is adorable and, honestly, pretty accurate in some regards. The bonus is that the comments will make you laugh.

12. Inspirational words from a silver player

Check it out here.

Let’s just say that if you’re looking for a rather humorous piece of encouragement, go to the linked picture and read it through. Then if you want a few more laughs, scroll through and read a few of the sassy comments.

11. [Spoiler] Team Impulse vs Team SoloMid / NA LCS 2015 Summer - Week 8 / Post-Match Discussion

Check it out here.

If you’re a TSM fan like me and are saddened by TSM’s somewhat depressing loss against TIP, look no further and join the discussion in the comments about what caused TSM to lose and what they could have done better. Also, join the lively chatter about who the game’s MVP was, interspersed among the other humorous and somewhat sarcastic comments.

10. Can we get our grades on our match history?

Check it out here.

I laughed out loud reading these comments – personally, I like the grading system, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about having that information available for anyone to see in my match history (although I suppose technically you can already see someone’s prowess from his or her KDA). If you’re on the fence like me, come take a look at the funny conversation in the comments about the pros and cons of having grades available in match history.

9. TL Coach Argues Sandbox Mode Would Dramatically Improve Scrims and Training

Check it out here.

This thread brings up the very timely question of whether or not a Sandbox Mode would enhance player’s rate of improvement – my opinion, of course, is yes, and it’s one that is echoed by many users in this thread. What’s worth noting, however, is not only this one suggestion; it’ll definitely be interesting for you to go through the rest of the comments and take a look at some of the other in-game features that people would like to see.

8. Swapping Champions in SoloQueue

Check it out here.

The OP of this self post started a very useful dialogue about ways to avoid the awkward champion-swapping dialogue that happens in lower ELO – “Do you have X?” “No.” And then when that same line of conversation repeats multiple times so that players can champion-swap, everyone starts to get frustrated. The OP suggests a way to bypass the awkwardness, and then other users started piggybacking off of his idea, and what we have now is a thread that is a must-read.

7. Some Champion Statistics

Check it out here.

This is one of the most interesting statistics posts I’ve ever read; even if you’re not particularly math-inclined, it’s definitely worth your time to take a look at the OP’s examination of each champion’s “carry coefficient,” which the OP says is how well each champion scales with a gold advantage. This data may help you in your games, or you can simply join the discussion about the validity of this data and discuss some of its surprising results.

6. Let’s talk about Aegis of the Legion - Meteos

Check it out here.

This link takes you to a post by Cloud9’s Meteos about why he dislikes Aegis of the Legion as an item, and he uses some pretty compelling arguments. Once you’re done reading that, go back to the comments section on Reddit and you can become part of the conversation surrounding Aegis of the Legion. Is it really non-interactive? Is it actually a lame item that loses its usefulness very quickly? It’s up to you and the rest of the Reddit community to come to at least some sort of conclusion.

5. Reward lvl 5 champion masteries with 500/1000 IP.

Check it out here.

If you’re a (mostly) free player like me, then you know the pain of IP grinding… so what if there were another way to gain IP? This self post is particularly engaging because it brings up the issue of some players sitting on tens of thousands of IP with nothing to spend it on, while on the other hand, some players have been playing since S1 and are still missing champions and runes. Go take a look!

4. First Win of the Day should apply to each Map. Encouraging diversity and adaptability, while also helping out the IP grinding.

Check it out here.

I like this post a lot, because IP grinding is, again, a pain in the butt. This thread boasts a productive dialogue about maybe shaking up the First Win of the Day bonus so that other maps see more playtime and also so that players can get IP a little faster. The OP’s suggestion seems to be a slightly controversial one, so why don’t you go ahead and read through some of the comments and decide for yourself what you think?

3. The HUD update ready to go live with 5.14!

Check it out here.

Patch 5.14 is already making me really happy. Like, really, really, happy. Why? Because we get interface updates that are clean and convenient, and it should make playing League a lot more streamlined. Not to mention that this patch should help teams coordinate better than ever. Back on Reddit itself, users are already going for the next step and suggesting possible follow-up changes to the UI – perhaps taking a look at those suggestions is worth some of your time.

2. I've listened to your suggestions and worked tirelessly to bring you (what I believe is) the most comprehensive LoL statistic site available. Get stats/graphs based off champion roles, build win rates, masteries, runes, skill orders, summoner spells, and counters all for the current patch.

Check it out here.

A rather long submission title, if you ask me, but this self post is about champion.gg, a very handy website for you to look up League of Legends statistics (it draws data from a huge pool of Plat+ ranked games). If you’re interested in a bit of coding aside from just those statistics, though, you might want to read the comments – there are a whole slew of suggestions for better ways to code websites.

1. I am Thorin, esports journalist of around 1.5 decades, co-host of 'Summoning Insight' and thinker of thoughts - AMA

Check it out here.

This thread is one of the most interesting ones I’ve read in a while – AMAs are always incredibly engaging, and from what I can see, Thorin responds to questions thoughtfully, eloquently, and in very great detail. If you’re looking to learn a thing or two about the LoL pro scene or even about League of Legends itself, this thread is assuredly worth your while.

The community is where the heart (of League) is.

Go join some of the banter on Reddit and you’ll find yourself at the center of the League universe – talented players aplenty, interesting suggestions galore.

If you ever find yourself at a lack for things to read, though, why don’t you go consider the problem of overpowered ultimates or perhaps ponder the question of who the most famous League players are?
