Counter-strike!
Counterattack may sometimes just be the most annoying ability a hero can give themselves, their nearby allies, or heck, even their entire team - especially if the opposing side doesn’t have a dispeller in their lineup. After all, they’d be forced to either wait out until this buff disappears - which can give the defending hero the chance to reapply it - or risk getting their own HPs lessened every single time they attack the beefed-up members. This is why deploying heroes with the counterattack Special Skill as part of your defense team will demand some strategizing from your opponent’s end, especially if they don’t want to suffer when they unleash their own attacks on your team! With that in mind, here are our Top 10 Empires and Puzzles Best Counterattack Heroes.
10. Sumitomo
Mask of Sumitomo
Starting our list is the demon fighter from Atlantis, Sumitomo.
Unlike the other 4* heroes in this list, Sumitomo’s counterattack ability via his Oji-Waza is secondary to his damage - which is considerable as he gives 300% damage to a single target. After this damage is delivered, he can then counterattack with 135% of the damage he received for 5 turns! Additionally, he gains a moderate amount of mana for each counterattack, though it gets diminished if consecutively activated during the same turn - such as if he’s the only one left on the battlefield. And, considering he’s from the Fighter Class, aka may revive themselves with 1 HP after they should have been defeated? This makes him a good counterattacking hero, in our humble opinion!
What Makes Sumitomo for Counterattack:
- Deals 300% damage to target
- Can counterattack with 135% of the damage received for 5 turns, as well as gain mana for each counterattack
- May revive himself after a fatal attack
9. Obakan
White means death!
Ahhh, Obakan - aka one of the OG heroes who can counterattack. If you’ve been in the game long enough, chances are you already have him on your roster, considering he’s fairly easier to summon unlike most of the others from our list!
Just like Sumitomo, Obakan’s counterattack ability is true to its name of Cleave and Counter - and 310% damage to the target with minor damage to nearby enemies, at Fast mana speed, is no joke. Afterward, he can already counterattack with 115% of the damage he received for 4 turns! Considering his mana speed though, it’s possible this buff will always be upon him - which makes him reliable for counterattacking purposes!
What Makes Obakan Great for Counterattack:
- Deals 310% damage to the target and minor damage to nearby enemies
- Can counterattack with 115% of the damage he received for 4 turns
- Has Fast mana speed
8. Cyprian
What a nosey man!
Next on our list is the first of the two OG 4* heroes who can grant the counterattacking ability to others, and not just to themselves. And they’re both fairly easy to summon, too!
Cyprian’s Perfect Riposte enables himself and his nearby allies to counterattack with 125% of the damage they received for 5 turns. This is why it’s not uncommon to see his fully emblemed version as the tank in a lineup - getting hit often will make him unleash his Special Skill a lot quicker, provided he’s regularly healed and kept alive long enough to do so, of course!
What Makes Cyprian Great for Counterattack:
- Fairly easy to summon from portals
- Grants himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 125% of the damage received for 5 turns
- Good to use as a tank
7. Boril Costume
Armor up!
Costumes really give heroes the chance to be better at what they do - and Boril Costume is no different.
With his costume on, his Perfect Riposte becomes a Sturdy one. While the amount of damage each counterattack can do is lessened from 125% to 60%, and the duration shortened from 5 turns to 4, the number of allies benefiting from the ability, on the other hand, increases - from three to all allies! This means that attackers unleashing abilities that hit more than one target should be wary, especially if they don’t have a healer/dispeller on their side. And with Boril’s considerable defense - particularly if he’s limit-broken and fully-emblemed for tanking purposes? Anyone who thinks he can easily be disposed of better think again!
What Makes Boril Costume Great for Counterattack:
- All allies can counterattack 60% of the damage they received for 4 turns
- Has high defenses
- Awesome to use as a tank
6. Mack
An offensive Hobbit?
From the Underwild Season comes our next hero, who gives two buffs for the price of one!
Mack’s Halfling’s Wit makes him a great hero to put in between your two best attackers in the lineup. Not only does he allow the three of them to counterattack with 125% of the damage they received for 4 turns, but he also gives himself and the others +25% attack for 4 turns! Moreover, like Sumitomo, he’s from the Fighter Class - which may mean he’s reviving himself more often than the opposing side may want him to. His awesomeness makes up for his size, that’s for sure!
What Makes Mack Great for Counterattack:
- Gives himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 125% of the damage they received for 4 turns
- Gives himself and nearby allies +25% attack
- May revive himself after a fatal attack
5. Boss Wolf
What a Beast!
Boss Wolf is a hero that can be summoned whenever the Challenge Event Fables of Grimforest is up and running in the game.
His Unstoppable Growl gives a boatload of status effects: positive ones for his team and a negative one for his enemies. While he and his nearby allies get an undispellable +24% mana generation for 4 turns, as well as the ability to counterattack with 115% of the damage they received for 4 turns, all enemies get -34% mana generation for the same amount of turns, too! It comes at a price, though, considering his Very Slow Mana Speed - which makes him a fantastic hero to use during Rush Attack battles to more than make up for it!
What Makes Boss Wolf Great for Counterattack:
- Gives himself and nearby allies +24% mana generation for 4 turns, which can’t be dispelled
- Gives all enemies -34% mana generation for 4 turns
- Gives himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack for 4 turns
4. Ferant
Marked for battle!
What happens when you mix a counterattacker with a mana controller? We can all ask Ferant about it, who’s summonable every time the event Clash of Knights is on in the game!
His Feral Revenge gives himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 135% of the damage they received for 5 turns, but of course, that’s not all. They all get to decrease the attacker’s mana by -10% on each counterattack for 5 turns too! This makes it fairly difficult for the attacker to get enough mana to unleash their Special Skill - and for as long as Ferant and his nearby allies are counterattacking, they may never do!
What Makes Ferant Great for Counterattack:
- Gives himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 135% of the damage they received for 5 turns
- They decrease -10% mana from the attacker on each counterattack for 5 turns, which diminishes when consecutively activated during the same turn
3. Isrod
Evil is as evil does!
We love our heroes who do both attack and counterattack, even if they’re technically an enemy - like Isrod from the League of Villains!
His Vengeful Scythe deals 260% damage to the target and nearby enemies and gives himself and his nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 110% of the damage they received for 3 turns. However, they also benefit from unleashing counterattacks as they gain a moderate amount of mana from it! If the boards are in Isrod’s favor, his attack will soon be ready to be used again - ad infinitum for as long as the battle is on!
What Makes Isrod Great for Counterattack:
- Deals 260% damage to the target and nearby enemies
- Gives himself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 110% of the damage they received for 3 turns
- They gain a moderate amount of mana for each counterattack, which diminishes when consecutively activated during the same turn
2. Elena
Swords for days!
At this point in the game, who doesn’t know Elena?
Another OG hero, Elena is still a worthwhile one to use especially if you want your defense to center on counterattacking. Her Wall of Swords deals 202% damage to all enemies - which can be devastating especially if she’s emblemed offensively. She then gives herself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 125% of the damage they received for 5 turns, too! And while her costume is great on its own, her original version has something better - it makes her from the Fighter Class. She won’t quit on you, provided you don’t quit on her first!
What Makes Elena Great for Counterattack:
- Deals 202% damage to all enemies
- Gives herself and nearby allies the ability to counterattack with 125% of the damage they received for 5 turns
- May revive herself after a fatal attack
1. Sif
Fly high and proud!
If pure counterattacking abilities are what you’re looking for, look no further than our girl Sif from Valhalla!
Her skill Gold Weaver gives herself and her nearby allies the ability to counterattack 100% of the damage they receive for 4 turns. They will also reduce the damage they received by -50% and get +24% mana generation for 4 turns, meaning she’ll just keep buffing her lot and making them counterattack for as long as she’s active on the field. The enemy team better have a healer/dispeller in their lineup when facing Sif - they’ll be needed a lot!
What Makes Sif Great for Counterattack:
- Makes herself and nearby allies counterattack with 100% of the damage they received for 4 turns
- Reduces damage she and nearby allies receive by 50%
- Gives herself and nearby allies +24% mana generation
Those are our Top 10 Counterattack heroes. Try them in your lineup - and watch the attackers off themselves while attacking you!
