Defense! Defense!
Defense Teams in Empires and Puzzles play a very crucial role in the game. They act as the heroes guarding your Watchtower - if they win against any attackers, you get to keep your food, iron, and most importantly, your hard-earned trophies/cups. If they lose, however, the attackers get access to your resources - and may also bring you down one arena level, too! This is why carefully selecting the members of your 5-hero team is important, with emphasis on how each may contribute to the team’s victory! Here are our samples of Empires & Puzzles Best Defense Teams That Are Excellent.
5. Li Xiu + Sabina Costume + Boril + Melendor + Colen
Who says 4 stars can’t be used for your defense teams - especially if you’re F2P or C2P? That’s why the combination of the five heroes above is a good team to build even as you’re hoping to get more powerful 5* heroes in your roster. They’re all easy enough to pull across summons portals, or even from Training Camp and Hero Academy - save for Sabina Costume, which you need to summon from the Costume Chamber.
This team offers you a defense that’s full-on counterattack/high heal/mana control/status ailments. Boril, with his high defense, is tough enough to kill, but with his counterattack ability, the attacking team will need a dedicated healer/dispeller to remove it. Keeping him and the rest of the team alive are the jobs of Melendor and Sabina Costume, who also double teams as healers and dispellers keeping the pesky positive buffs off the attacking team - with the added bonus of her costume preventing them from having these buffs in the first place. Li Xiu is your trusted Mana Controller - her Special Skill is particularly frustrating as she won’t allow the attackers to use theirs every time she goes off. And since she’s placed at the left corner, she’ll always be the first to fire her skill soon as it’s full! And lastly, Colen is there to lay the hurt through his burn ailment. This may not be a highly offensive team, but it’s one that’s almost guaranteed to keep trucking on through repeated attacks!
What This Team Excels In:
- F2P Friendly as most of them can be summoned from most portals or gotten from Training Camp or Hero Academy
- Defense centers on counterattack/constant healing/mana control/status ailments
- Rainbow team means the attackers can’t take advantage of just one particular element
4. Costume Melendor + Costume Boril + Ursena + Elena + Gullinbursti
A combination of 4* and 5* heroes make up this team, and they’re all about bouncing damage back to their attackers.
With Ursena being at the center, attackers would want to use Holy heroes against her - except her Special Skill makes her team reflect all status effects and 115% damage back to Holy heroes for 4 turns, not to mention her damage to all enemies doubles if her target has more than 50% health remaining. Then there’s the combination of Boril Costume and Elena, whose Special Skills are all about counterattacking! Elena’s is particularly awful considering she also deals 202% damage to all enemies. To keep them all alive, Costume Melendor works hand in hand with Gullinbursti - the former to dispel buffs, regenerate health, and protect the team with defense up, while the latter boosts health and deals damage to all enemies after 4 turns. This team is not too offensively-focused at first glance, but they will make attackers pay for daring to raid their watchtower in the first place!
What This Team Excels In:
- Defense is focused on reflecting damage, counterattacking, and healing
- Offensive heroes in the lineup attack all enemies
- Rainbow team means the attackers can’t take advantage of just one particular element
3. Kageburado + Yang Mai + Telluria + Vela + Uraeus
This team is definitely more offensive in nature, and more focused on outright defeating their attackers instead of keeping themselves alive while doing so.
Telluria performs the role of more than just a tank here - she also keeps her team topped up via health regeneration, minion summoning, and controlling the mana of the opposing team. Vela is a fantastic hero that attacks all enemies and gives them water damage and attack down as debuffs, too. Yang Mai may seem like a single target attacker - except she has a large chance of attacking others up to 4 times, which ups her attack power by 5%. Then you have Kageburado and Uraeus to contend with if ever you do manage to break through the three heroines! Kageburado’s particularly deadly to enemies with more than 50% health as his damage doubles just for them. Uraeus, on the other hand, is your dedicated minion-summoner killer - his damage bypasses the minions of his target and also gives all the attackers currently with minions sand damage over 3 turns. This defense team is hell-bent on protecting their Watchtower - and attacking enemies better have a lot of healing, attack power, and luck on their side to win against them!
What This Team Excels In:
- A highly offensive team bent on destroying attackers
- Members attack multiple enemies and give them various debuffs
- Rainbow team means the attackers can’t take advantage of just one particular element
2. Vela + Black Knight + Heimdall + Domitia + Joon Costume
Revive and Divert is the name of the game!
Oh, what to do when you have two formidable tanks on your roster? Why, add them both to your defensive lineup, of course!
This team is a mixture of everything good in a defense - which means taking them down is a task only a few players may be brave enough to tackle head-on. Heimdall is a fantastic healing tank that not only boosts the health of his team but also gives them an attack up as a buff - but his greatest offer is the 20% chance for any of his fallen allies to come back to life with 30% HP. This makes him a prime target to defeat first - except Black Knight is also there. His own special taunts the enemies into attacking only him while he bulks up his own defense and gives the others +45% attack, which just increases more every time they are hit during the times he’s taunting! The other three heroes in the lineup - Vela, Domitia, and Joon Costume become even deadlier considering they’re free to attack as soon as their special skills are ready to be unleashed. The latter two in particular are scary enough as their attacks already give upwards of 400% damage to their target, while the former attacks all and gives them water damage and attack down as debuffs to boot. Truly, this team demands their attackers to think heavily before forming a team to face them!
What This Team Excels In:
- Having two formidable tanks in the lineup
- Black Knight’s Taunt diverts attention away from Heimdall, leaving him free to boost health and revive
- Vela, Domitia, and Joon Costume benefit from the attack up boosts from both Heimdall and Black Knight
- Rainbow team means the attackers can’t take advantage of just one particular element
1. Gravemaker + Krampus + Freya + Kadilen Costume + Odin
That team power, tho!
Minions? Does anyone want minions? Because this team has them in seemingly a never-ending supply. Thank goodness there’s a limit to how many minions each hero can have on their person at any given time!
This team offers a lot of ways to protect each other - and off their attackers in exchange. There’s Freya at the very center who summons bulky raven minions that give +120% attack up to other minions present, as well as a fantastic +30% defense up for 4 turns. Targeting her is hard enough considering she summons minions fast - and also because Krampus is there, taunting the enemies to attack only him while summoning his own minions and giving his allies a hefty +50% attack up for 3 turns. Just when you think you can use your Special Skill on these defenders, Kadilen Costume will attack all enemies and make her team dodge those skills - and summon even more minions as result. Meanwhile, Gravemaker is busy offing his target and nearby enemies as well as giving them burn ailment at Very Fast mana speed, whereas Odin may just single-handedly defeat all enemies should there be a ton of Holy shields in play by the time his Special Skill goes off. This team is truly a nightmare to deal with in more ways than one!
What This Team Excels In:
- Multiple members can summon minions and give attack-up to the heroes as well as their minions
- Multiple members have Very Fast/Fast Mana Speed
- Members may dodge Special Skills via Kadilen Costume’s ability
- Kadilen Costume, Gravemaker, and Odin - all multi-target attackers - may greatly benefit from the attack boost given by Krampus’ ability
- Rainbow team means the attackers can’t take advantage of just one particular element
