[Top 10] Empires and Puzzles Best Defense Heroes That Are Powerful

Gotta Win Over 'Em All!

All in a Day’s Work!

One of the fun things to think about when playing Empires and Puzzles is figuring out which heroes to put in your Defense Team. Whether your end goal is to defend your Watchtower against raids or be the last member of your Alliance standing during Wars, it all depends on how powerful your team is - and how much each hero in it contributes to making you win your battles! Here are our Top 10 Best Defense Heroes that Are Powerful.

10. Kalø

Kalo

A smile only a mother can love

Gargoyles are a fairly new addition to this game, and man they can be powerful. So powerful that one of them even has to be nerfed quite recently - that one being Kalø! Regardless though, he brings something new to the table, and boy, when his Special Skill activates? The enemies better watch out!

His Resurrection of the Fallen deals damage situationally: if all his allies are alive, he deals twice the original 70% damage to all enemies; otherwise, it’s 70%. However! What’s intriguing about him is his ability to cast the Special Skills of all fallen allies. That’s right - all of them. So imagine if he’s the last one standing in his team, and his mana gauge fills up? He’ll unleash four waves of attacks! And there’s also gargoyles’ passive ability wherein their Stoneskin hardens after casting their Special Skill; for Kalø, the next 5 times they receive damage, it is dropped to 1, which is undispellable. His Very Slow mana may turn others off from using him - except maybe during Rush Attack, which he may just dominate soon!

What Makes Kalø Great:

  • Attacks all enemies, severity of which depend on whether or not all his allies are alive
  • Casts the Special Skill of all fallen allies
  • Has a passive ability that reduces damage received to 1 after casting his Special Skill

9. Papyros

Papyros

No eye? No problem~

Season 5 heroes haven’t been around for long, but they’re already making their presence known - just like Papyros over here!

His Special Skill Summon Sand Golems, period. But they’re different from every minion out there in that, each time the Sand Golem Minion is attacked by normal attacks or Special Skills, the attacker receives 282 sand damage over 3 turns. And since they’re needed to be rid of to get rid of Papyros himself? That sand damage may just be there to stay. Moreover, he gives all his allies +30% defense for 3 turns, too! Lastly, his passive ability gives him a 60% chance to boost his allies’ health by 10% or grant them a small amount of mana, too. Always a good thing for defensive heroes to enjoy, isn’t it?

What Makes Papyros Great:

  • Summons Sand Golems that give 282 sand damage when attacked
  • Gives all allies +30% defense
  • Passive ability gives him 60% chance to either boost health of all allies or give them small amount of mana

8. Gaillard

Gaillard

Even stones can be book-smart!

With several fiend-summoners out there, who are you gonna call to counter them? Fiendbusters!

Gaillard’s Educated Exorcism acts as a protective shield for his teammates in the face of fiends. It deals 490% damage to a single target, but more importantly, all his allies will become immune to incoming negative effects and damage from Fiends for 4 turns, as well as makes them immune to new fiends, too! Fiend summoners are no threat to his team for as long as Gaillard’s watching over them!

What Makes Gaillard Great:

  • Deals 490% damage to a single target
  • All allies become immune to negative effects and damage from fiends for 4 turns
  • All allies become immune to new fiends for 4 turns

7. Diaochan

Diaochan

All dolled up for war!

Here we have a hero who’s not just about stealing hearts - but stealing buffs, too!

Diaochan’s aptly named Lady’s Charm makes her a dedicated healer; at Fast Mana Speed, she recovers 35% health for all her allies and summons a Lackey Minion for her and her nearby allies as well. What’s fascinating about these minions though is that each of its hit steals a random dispellable buff from their enemies, only to give it to their owner! Just wait - in no time at all, their enemies will be stripped of buffs - while Diachan’s team is rife with it!

What Makes Diaochan Great:

  • A dedicated healer and minion summoner for herself and nearby allies
  • Has Fast Mana Speed
  • Each minion hit steals a random dispellable buff and gives it to their owner

6. Guan Yu

Guan Yu

On the prowl for minion summoners!

We all know how much a pain minions in this game can be - and here comes a man with a vendetta against their summoners.

Guan Yu’s Green Dragon Crescent Blade deals 390% damage to the target and nearby enemies, which bypasses the target’s minions. This means the minions’ role as meat shields is basically rendered ineffective by this ability! What’s more, the target and nearby enemies get an uncleansable defense down depending on how many minions their team has - which means they can suffer as much as -70% defense for 3 turns, making disposing of them a cakewalk. If that isn’t a death sentence to these folks, we don’t know what is!

What Makes Guan Yu Great:

  • Fantastic to use to defend against or attack minion summoners
  • Deals 390% damage to the target and nearby enemies
  • Target and nearby enemies get uncleansable defense down for 3 turns

5. Onyx

Onyx

Claws for days!

Dispellers will always have a place in any team composition, including defensive ones - and one of the more devastating ones happens to be a ninja!

Onyx’s Crippling Claws is a fantastic way of making sure his enemies won’t be enjoying any kind of buffs any time soon. At 1x mana charge, he deals 270% damage to the target, makes them immune to new buffs for 3 turns, and dispels whatever buffs they have at the moment. At 2x, he now deals 310% damage to the target and nearby enemies, makes them immune to new buffs for 4 turns, and dispels their buffs too. At 3x, though? He can now deal 350% damage to all enemies, make them immune to new buffs for 5 turns, and dispels all their buffs! Enemies beware!

What Makes Onyx Great:

  • Depending on his mana charge, he can:
    • Attack one to all enemies
    • Deal 270% to 350% damage
    • Dispels buffs from enemies

4. Ruby

Ruby

Red is for the blood spilled by her blade

Mana generation is a key element in this game; take it away and some heroes basically become worthless as an effect. Which is why the ability to control the enemies’ mana is a great power to have - just ask our ninja friend, Ruby!

Like all ninjas, the strength of her attack depends on how long she’s been charging her mana - and it’s aptly named Crimson Calamity for a reason. At 1x mana charge, she only attacks one target for 290% damage, reduces their mana by 25%, and gives them -14% mana generation for 2 turns. At 2x, she attacks the target and nearby enemies for 330% damage, reduces their mana by 50%, and gives them -24% mana generation for 3 turns. At 3x mana charge though? Ho boy. She now deals 370% damage to all enemies, reduces their mana by 100%, and gives them -34% mana generation for 4 turns! Now that’s a fantastic hero to use both in defense and full offense!

What Makes Ruby Great:

  • Depending on her mana charge, she can:
    • Attack one to all enemies
    • Reduce mana from 25% to 100%
    • Give -14% to -34% mana generation, which can last from 2 to 4 turns

3. Agrafena

Agrafena

The classics never go out of style

Nowadays though, mana charge is not just reserved for ninjas - but for magical beings, too!

Agrafena’s Arcane Shock can make her either a debuffer of enemies or a buffer of allies - or even both, if the boards are on her side! At 1x mana charge, she gives all enemies pain in the form of -20% attack, -20% defense, and 159 damage, all over 3 turns. At 2x mana charge though, it’s all about making her allies stronger, in the form of giving them +45% attack and +54% defense - both of which increase every time they are hit. Not to mention regenerating 1428 HP over 6 turns, too! What a magical time for her team to be alive!

What Makes Agrafena Great:

  • Depending on her mana charge, she can:
    • Give all enemies defense down, attack down, and Poison damage for 3 turns
    • Give all allies attack up, defense up, and HP regeneration over 6 turns

2. Motega

Motega

A gentle soul inside that buff bod

He doesn’t look it, but Motega is a magical being who can either be a minion or fiend summoner - or both, too!

The type of creatures his Butterfly Swarm summons depends on his mana charge. At 1x, he summons a Butterfly Minion for each ally, and each hit from it increases the damage the target receives by 20% for 3 turns. But 2x mana charge is where the pain’s at, considering it turns Motega into a fiend summoner, with each fiend damaging the enemy every turn, absorbing the healing they receive, and giving them an uncleansable -50% accuracy for as long as the fiend exists! Man, these creatures are merciless, aren’t they?

What Makes Motega Great:

  • Depending on his mana charge, Motega is:
    • A minion summoner that increases damage received by his minions’ target
    • A fiend summoner that attacks the target, absorbs healing they received, and gives them -50% accuracy

1. Sobek

Sobek

Hit, hit, hooray!

Sometimes a good defense is mounting a good offense, no ifs, ands, or buts - and Sobek? All about dealing damage.

His Jaws of the River deals 290% damage to all enemies which bypasses defensive buffs, including counterattacks. Simple, right? Not to mention his passive ability that allows him to deal even more damage, to boot! When he casts his Special Skill, he gains the ability to either deal 70% damage to all enemies, or give them 246 Sand Damage over 3 turns at a 60% chance. Damage, damage, damage - Sobek does it all. A great hero to punish those who dare attack your defense team, no doubt about it!

What Makes Sobek Great:

  • Deals 290% damage to all enemies
  • This bypasses defensive buffs, including counterattacks
  • Passive ability gives him a chance to either deal additional damage to enemies or give them Sand Damage

These heroes are awesome in every way. Utilize them - and they will defend you and yours until their very last breath!
