[Top 5] MTG Arena Best Mutate Decks!

Green mutate creature Ikoria
If you think it is nasty now just wait for it to mutate!

In the land of Ikoria, monsters are not just elemental cat dinosaurs, they can become elemental minotaur cat dinosaur demon kraken beasts. Mutate was the amazing mechanic that came from this set. It allows you to build your own giant godzilla like monsters. The fact that you can mutate an actual godzilla monster in this game shows not only it’s reach as a part of gaming culture but the fact that hasbro owns some really cool stuff. Mutate allowed some decks to exist that are absolutely monstrous. Take a look at this list to see which decks make use of this epic ability. Due to the recent rotation some of these decks are historic only, but still fun anyway!

5. Sultai mutate

Brokkos Apex of Forever mutated

To start this list off let us examine the power of green, black, and blue. You will notice a few cards repeat as we go through this list because there are less than 50 creatures with mutate. Most of them are green, each color pair uses them in their own way. Sultai uses the creatures as removal and use them to overwhelm their opponents, have fun!

What is great about this deck?

  • Green allows you to ramp fast
  • Blue lets you draw what you need
  • Black can remove most threats on sight.

How this deck is played

  • Deploy lands to gain access to your colors
  • Play ramp to let you cast your larger bombs
  • Summon small creatures and let them play on the board for a bit

3. Simic Mutate

The Parcelbeast is a big fan of lands and he can find them, but you have to pay of course.

Ok that's enough with the three color decks for this list. Green and blue make those monsters grow. Due to recent bannings Uro is no longer legal in standard. I recommended throwing Scute Swarm in this deck to make it something that will actually break the game. For Historic it is a fun simic deck that uses creatures to their max potential.

What makes this deck great?

  • Use the empty card slots to run even more creatures
  • Cheaper to get the cards need to make this deck uses less rares/mythics

How this deck is played

  • Deploy lands to get your two and only two colors

2. Monogreen Mutate

Big bambi go mutate

All you need is green to make the most of mutate. Green is all about growth and that’s exactly what we are doing here. Now witness the might of a mono-colored mutate mash up. Oh yeah we are going to put counters on creatures now too.

What is great about this deck?

  • No mana fixing required
  • Green allows for maximum ramp
  • Plays only creatures

How this deck is played

1. Mutating Swarm

Standard was ready for anything, except the swarm!

Oh this deck is by far the number one deck in not just the mutate world but it may break all of standard. Exploiting the Landfall mechanic with Scute Swarm on the field is a way to overwhelm and push the arena technically to its limits. Mutating the swarm allows you to perform in a way that is so good it should be banned, have fun!

What makes this deck great

  • Totally exploits the effect of Scute Swarm
  • Mutate is enabling this deck to run as flawless as it does
  • This deck is an undaunting bane in standard because it goes off fast and consistently

How the deck is played

  • Turn 1 deploy a land and pass
  • Turn 2 drop a land and play lotus cobra
  • turn 3 play fabled passage which lets the cobra add one mana use it to play the swarm
  • Turn 4 mutate the swarm with Migratory Greathorn allowing you to search lands and clone the swarm
  • Turn 5 start a land deploying barrage mutating the swarm and using whatever you need to make a swarm of the swarm and watch why this deck should be banned.
