If we’re only talking about the ability to tank more damage with a shield, Montagne would be the best. With his special gadget, the Extendable Shield, he can even prevent himself from getting damaged by a nitro cell explosion. As its name implies, the Extendable Shield’s cover can be extended, making it hard to shoot Montagne even on the sides.
The only downside to that is he won’t be able to shoot his handgun, but when it comes to providing cover for himself and his teammates, it’s a great utility. It can also cause a lot of distraction to the enemies because while they can’t kill Montagne, his teammates could be flanking, and there’s no telling when he will be switching to his handgun in order to frag them.
5. Le Roc Shield + P9 with Suppressor + Impact EMP Grenade
Now this loadout setup is at the last place on the list because it’s hard for Montagne to be stealthy, even with a suppressor on his P9. That’s because Montagne makes a lot of noise whenever he moves due to the huge shield in front of him. However, that doesn’t mean that a suppressor on Montagne’s P9 isn’t a viable weapon for him, especially now that suppressors don't reduce the weapon’s damage anymore which only happened pretty recently.
With the suppressor on Montagne’s P9 handgun, when he notices that an enemy is not paying attention to him since they know that they can't kill him at the moment, Montagne can suddenly switch to the suppressed P9 and shoot at that defender. With good aim, Montagne could take them down with one shot to the head, and even if his shots only go to the body, with just a few shots from the P9, Montagne could score a skill on a defender that isn’t paying attention to him.
Excels in:
- Shooting enemies with Montagne’s P9 handgun without creating a directional threat indicator that would tell them that Montagne has begun shooting
- The silent gunshots from Montagne’s P9 due to the suppressor could make enemies slower to react to his gunshots
- The suppressor on Montagne’s P9 handgun will also remove the weapon’s muzzle flash and could make enemies slower to realize that Montagne is already shooting at them
- Providing Montagne with the ability to enable hard breaching with the use of the impact EMP grenades
Build Details:
- Primary weapon - Le Roc Shield
- Secondary weapon - P9 with Suppressor
- Generic gadget - Impact EMP Grenade
4. Le Roc Shield + LFP586 with Laser + Smoke Grenade
There are a lot of players, especially newer ones, that would hesitate to use the LFP586 handgun as Montagne’s weapon. That’s because its recoil is a lot stronger than the P9, therefore, it’s harder to hit opponents with it, and its magazine capacity, or in the LFP586’s case, its cylinder, is a lot smaller. However, the LFP586 has devastating firepower, and could take down an enemy with just a couple of shots at its optimal range.
Its heavy damage alone makes it a very viable weapon for Montagne who would be ignored by enemies a lot of times because it’s very hard to kill him while his Extendable Shield is active. But when the Montagne player switches to weapon mode, he can score some easy kills with the LFP586. Also, the LFP586 in this loadout setup has a laser, making the handgun’s hip fire much tighter. So with this loadout setup, if Montagne gets close enough to an enemy, he could just use hip fire to hit him with shots from the LFP586.
Excels in:
- Inflicting heavy damage on enemies due to the high stock firepower on the LFP586 handgun
- Opening more lines of sight on unreinforced walls with the use of the high destruction profile per shot on the LFP586 handgun
- Having a tight hip fire while using the LFP586 handgun due to the laser attachment
- Providing a lot of cover for the whole attacking team’s push and defuser plant attempts with the use of the two smoke grenades in Montagne’s arsenal
Build Details:
- Primary weapon - Le Roc Shield
- Secondary weapon - LFP586 with Laser
- Generic gadget - Smoke Grenade
3. Le Roc Shield + P9 with Muzzle Brake and Laser + Impact EMP Grenade
Montagne’s P9 handgun is easier to use than his LFP586 due to the former’s larger magazine capacity and lower recoil. With this loadout setup, whenever the Montagne user switches to firing mode by aiming-down-sight on the P9 handgun, he’d be able to hit his enemies with good accuracy and stability. And with the laser on the P9 handgun, its hip fire will be a lot tighter, thus increasing the chances of Montagne hitting his enemies by hip firing while his Extendable Shield still protects most of his body.
This loadout setup really makes Montagne dangerous at close range, and still a force to reckon with at medium-range, because he’ll be able to hit opponents with good accuracy from a distance due to the lower recoil on the P9 with a muzzle brake. As for the secondary gadget, Montagne is one of the few attackers that have been blessed with impact EMP grenades, which are valuable utilities that can enable hard breaching, especially when Thatcher is banned.
Excels in:
- Having a tight hip fire on the P9 handgun due to the laser which makes Montagne very deadly at close range
- Having a great recoil control on the P9 handgun due to the muzzle brake barrel attachment which greatly decreases the weapon’s vertical recoil
- Having the ability to quickly enable hard breaching with the impact EMP grenade disabling hard breach preventing gadgets
- Disabling troublesome electronic defender gadgets like Maestro’s Evil Eyes with the use of the impact EMP grenades
Build Details:
- Primary weapon - Le Roc Shield
- Secondary weapon - P9 with Muzzle Brake and Laser
- Generic gadget - Impact EMP Grenade
2. Le Roc Shield + LFP586 + Hard Breach Charge
While it is good to have a tighter hip fire on the LFP586 handgun by attaching a laser to it, the biggest downside to it is that enemies with really good aim could target the red laser on your hand. That’s basically giving them a target, and it could lead to you being damaged unnecessarily. So at the end of the day, it’s still a bit better to use a handgun with no laser when you’re playing Montagne and your Extendable Shield isn’t extended.
This also applies when you’re aiming-down-sight on the LFP586 on top of your shield. The red laser will give your opponents a good target to aim at, and that could lead to you being shot to the head. So with this loadout setup, you’ll be eliminating the possibility of your pistol hand being targeted by enemies when your Extendable Shield isn’t extended and when you’re aiming-down-sight. As for the generic gadget, the hard breach charge will provide an additional utility for Montagne’s team to perform hard breaching on reinforced hatches and walls.
Excels in:
- Inflicting heavy damage per shot due to the LFP586 handgun’s high stock damage
- The LFP586 handgun having high destruction profile per shot makes it a great utility for opening lines of sight on unreinforced walls
- Having no laser attachment on Montagne’s handgun prevents enemies from using the laser as a target to hit Montagne’s exposed hand
- Having the ability to destroy two reinforced hatches or open entry holes on reinforced walls using the hard breach charges
Build Details:
- Primary weapon - Le Roc Shield
- Secondary weapon - LFP586
- Generic gadget - Hard Breach Charge
1. Le Roc Shield + P9 with Muzzle Brake + Smoke Grenade
Ultimately, the P9 handgun with a muzzle brake barrel attachment and no laser is the best sidearm for Montagne because the muzzle brake will provide him with great recoil control on the weapon, and having no laser means giving no targets to the enemies that they could use to aim at Montagne’s exposed pistol hand. With the default dark skin of the P9 handgun, Extendable Shield, and Montagne’s uniform, it’d be harder for enemies to target the body parts that aren’t being covered by his shield.
For Montagne’s generic gadget, the smoke grenade is the best in most situations because there are a lot of other ways to disable hard breach preventing defender gadgets without having to rely on the impact EMP grenades. Meanwhile, the smoke grenades go well with Montagne’s special gadget because he’s one of the best defuser planters in the game. The smoke grenades will provide great cover for Montagne to plant the defuser, and even if defenders shoot through the smoke, chances are they’d only be hitting Montagne’s shield which goes to his back when he’s planting the defuser.
Excels in:
- Having great recoil control on Montagne’s P9 handgun with the use of the muzzle brake barrel attachment
- Making it harder for enemies to aim at Montagne’s exposed pistol hand by not attaching a laser to his P9 handgun
- The dark default skin on Montagne’s P9 handgun could blend to the default Extendable Shield’s skin as well as Montagne’s default uniform, making it even harder for enemies to aim at his exposed body parts
- Providing cover for the attacking team’s push and Montagne’s defuser plant attempt with the use of the two smoke grenades in his generic gadget slot
Build Details:
- Primary weapon - Le Roc Shield
- Secondary weapon - P9 with Muzzle Brake
- Generic gadget - Smoke Grenade
