The North American team Evil Geniuses lost 2:0 to team Newbee in their first match at TI7. Shortly after that, they were eliminated from The International after being defeated again 2:0 by the Russian team known as Team Empire in the lower bracket. Evil Geniuses came 10th place (out of 18) winning the prize of $369,495.
Although Evil Geniuses haven’t been invited to ESL One Hamburg, there is a good chance that they will be participating. These tournaments still offer a large prize pool and feature some of the best teams from around the world. The ESL One Hamburg is one of them which has a prize pool of $1,000,000. The event is held and sponsored by Valve Corporation and will be starting on 26 October and finishing on 29 October 2017.
There were some changes in the EG roster this year and it is the first time that one of the team members, Andreas Nielsen (Cr1t), has acted as captain for the team in TI. Considering Evil Geniuses’ results in the last two TI tournaments, this year was not a particularly good one for them. EG won The International 2015 and gained a prize of $6,616,014 million, and the following year at The International 2016 Evil Geniuses came 3rd winning a prize of $2,180,898.
The International takes place once a year. It is one of the largest eSports tournaments and is hosted by the game’s developer Valve Corporation. The prize pool for TI7 is a whopping $24 million, which would be distributed among 18 teams. No team would go home empty handed, but the difference in prize money for first place versus 18th place is huge.
