[Top 5] Starfield Best Cargo Ships

Loading garbage from all corners of the universe!

Cargo ships are supposed to carry huge amounts of items that you’ve farmed or scavenged from outposts and other locations. They’re harder to maneuver and are not exactly meant for combat-related activities but that doesn’t mean that they’re completely defenseless or harmless.

If you ever wondered how useful some of these ships are, well, you’re in luck, as I will be talking about them in this article - we shall talk about how much they cost, where or how you can attain them, and what they excel in. Without further ado, let’s start!

5. Kepler R

The R.

It’s a decent ship to start with. It has the lowest cargo capacity on this list but it makes up with a plentiful crew and massive fuel capacity that will allow you to travel to many long-distance locations. You also don’t have to spend money on it but unlock it via a quest. It’s also equipped with some weaponry that will help you fight off some low-level punks.

Stats:

  • Fuel 2800
  • Hull 999
  • Cargo 3550
  • Power 24
  • Crew 6
  • Jump Range 28 LY
  • Shield 805

What Kepler R does well:

  • High fuel capacity(2800 units) which allows you to travel for extended periods
  • The ship has a high crew amount of 6 people, which improves the overall quality of your ship
  • Don’t have to purchase it, you can get it by completing a quest

How to get this ship:

  • Complete “All That Money Can Buy”
  • Start the “Overdesigned” side mission
  • Find the Stroud-Euklund Staryard(it’s in the Narion system)
  • Speak to Jules Degante
  • Select the “We can build whatever we want with a larger budget. Let's go with the "kitchen sink" proposal.” dialogue option
  • Complete 1 passenger/bounty mission in the mission board
  • Speak to Jules Degante
  • Select the “The only fair thing to do is to make everyone give up one compromise.” dialogue option
  • Go back to Walter to claim your ship

4. Vanquisher II

Built like a plate.

I was thinking of giving this ship the third spot but I’ve realized that the weapons in this ship are not as good as Autobahn’s, so it’s getting the 4th spot. Still, this ship has a slightly bigger cargo and over 3 times bigger fuel capacity.

An expensive ship that gets the job done, not entirely defenseless but there are better ships in terms of weaponry.

Stats:

  • Fuel 1100
  • Hull 1151
  • Cargo 4140
  • Power 30
  • Crew 6
  • Jump Range 26 LY
  • Shield 975

What this ship does well:

  • Can travel very long distances thanks to its fuel capacity
  • Massive crew size of 6 people
  • Shields also improve this ship’s survival when it's getting hammered

3. Autobahn III

German-made? It’s gotta be good!

The ship does a great job at confusing you with how lackluster it looks but it’s gonna hit you like a brick when you realize that Autobahn III has a massive cargo that consists of 4130 mass.

Besides, it has a crew of 4 people and an impressive arsenal that consists of laser/ballistic weapons and missiles. Not exactly designed for combat but it will defend itself.

Stats:

  • Fuel 300
  • Hull 1377
  • Cargo 4130
  • Power 37
  • Crew 4
  • Jump Range 30 LY
  • Shield 1215

Autobahn’s strengths:

  • Decent arsenal of weapons for self-defense
  • Shields can absorb 1215 points of damage
  • The ship can fit a crew of 4

How to get this ship:

This ship will begin to appear on ship vendors once the player reaches level 68.

2. Venture

A lovely craft!

New Homestead. It’s located on one of the moons of Saturn - Titan. That’s the first location you’ve arrived in after playing Starfield for the first time. The cargo consists of 4270 mass and filling up your ship with all types of garbage will take you an unbelievably long amount of time.

It’s also worth noting that this ship can defend itself, especially if you have a crew on your ship. It’s equipped with:

  • Mauler 106T Autocannon
  • Dragon 241P Pulse Laser

Overall, it’s a great ship that you can get after saving up for a little bit. You also don’t have to travel to some shithole to get it!

Stats:

  • Fuel 150
  • Hull 736
  • Cargo 4270
  • Power 25
  • Crew 4
  • Jump Range 21 LY
  • Shield 610

Venture’s strengths:

  • You can get this ship in New Atlantis, the place where you begin the game
  • Cargo can hold 4270 mass
  • Has more defensive capabilities than previously mentioned ships

How to get this ship:

1. Silent Runner

Looks like a flying tank!

Traveling and loading my ship with all types of garbage is exactly my cup of tea and that’s solely the point of this ship. It has a whopping cargo of 6060 mass, plus the ship’s other qualities allow you to travel to further locations.

Despite this being a cargo ship, you are also not completely harmless - the ship is equipped with:

  • Disruptor 3340A Auto Alpha Turret(2x)
  • CE-49 Missile Launcher(1)

Plus, the Silent Runner is also equipped with OK shields(910 damage absorption), which should keep you safe for some time.

Stats:

  • Class: C
  • Hull: 1164
  • Shield: 975
  • Jump: 29
  • Reactor: 34
  • Cargo Capacity: 6060
  • Shielded Capacity: 0
  • Cost: 351135
  • Mass: 2463

Silent Runner’s strengths:

  • The largest cargo in the game capable of holding 6060 mass
  • Also equipped with weaponry so it’s not completely harmless
  • Perfect for long-distance travels

How to get this ship:

  • Valo System>Planet Polvo>Hopetech Astroonering
  • Remember that you need rank IV of the piloting skill
