Turrets in Starfield are usually used for ships that struggle with maneuverability, with too many modules installed, or just regular cargo ships. The beauty of these turrets is that they can be used offensively, as well as defensively.
If you’re in a combat situation, you often have to rely on aiming at your targets but with these turrets, they do that for you. Depending on how you design your ship, sometimes retreating from combat can be paradoxically more deadly for your foe than for you. Anyways, let’s start with the first turret:
5. Mauler 106T Autocannon Turret
For beginners!
This turret can be unlocked at level 20, you don’t need any special perks to use this weapon but you need 17,900 credits to purchase it. It deals small amounts of damage to shields and significant amounts of HULL damage, although you have to understand that soon enough these turrets will fall off as you encounter stronger enemies. It’s decent for beginners!
Why this turret is awesome:
- Can get it pretty early into the game(level 20)
- Can get it pretty much at any vendor you’ll encounter
- If one is not enough, you can place a few more!

4. Scorch-P 60MW Pulse Laser Turret
Chargin’ mah lazer!
This turret deals reasonably high amounts of damage to shields, enabling you to take care of the ship after its main defense is down. Using this turret alone won’t destroy the ship though, as it doesn’t deal too much HULL damage, so it’s smart to combine this turret with non-laser turrets to make sure that the enemy ship gets destroyed quickly.
Why this turret is awesome:
- An alright beginner weapon designed to melt shields off of enemy ships
- Goes well with other turrets that focus on dealing HULL damage
- No skill requirements needed

3. Eradicator 75MeV Auto Neutron Turret
2 in 1.
The Eradicator deals the same amount of damage to shields and the hull. It’s an alright replacement for laser turrets that deal low or mediocre amounts of damage, it’s also worth mentioning that it has a range of 3250 meters, which makes it unbelievably hard to escape from these bad boys.
They’re also cheap, and worth getting if your ship’s maneuverability is crappy and you need to keep bounty hunters off your back!
Why this turret is awesome:
- Deals the same amount of damage to the hull and the shields
- Costs only around 20,000 credits
- If you can’t find it anywhere else, there’s a high likelihood of finding it in Neon

2. Reza 300 PHz SX Pulse Laser Turret
Mr Reza!
This is yet another laser turret that specializes in dealing massive amounts of damage to turrets but Reza deals an outstanding 38 points of damage per hit to enemy shields, which melts them and opens the way for your other weaponry to obliterate your enemy.
Reza also deals some hull damage - it’s not a lot but it’s surely a significant bonus to your other turrets/weapons that deal hull damage.
Why this turret is great:
- The best turret for melting shields away
- Deals acceptable amounts of hull damage
- Worth its price, especially when you hit level 60

1. Jishaku Nd RF Rapid Railgun Turret
The beast.
One of the most bizarre things about this turret is the fact that you can get it at level 27, while only having to spend one point on Starship Design. If you value dealing huge amounts of hull damage to enemy ships or disabling engines in a record amount of time, then this turret is most definitely for you!
Just remember that this weapon only has a range of 1000 meters, so you have to stick pretty close to your enemies if you want this turret to be effective, although after installing 4 of these bad boys, I doubt there will be anything left to scavenge after you’re done!
Why this turret is awesome:
- Deals ridiculous amounts of hull damage to ships
- Combining 4 of these turrets will also deal 33.60 damage to the shields
- Can get it early in the game
