This is the first actual helmet that players will be able to acquire. It is way better than the mining helmet that you start with. The helmet offers decent physical, as well as energy, electromagnetic, and protection and it will get you through the first part of the game. 

Or until you find something that's better and more useful. Furthermore, you can get it for free by completing a quest called The Old Neighborhood and you don't have to scour the galaxy to find it. Additionally, it also offers corrosive, radiation, and airborne protection.

This helmet belongs to the mercenary group called the Trackers Alliance. Furthermore, you can work for this group and do random quests for them. The helmet itself has solid protection against physical, electromagnetic, energy, and airborne damage. 

Additionally, players can find different versions of this helmet as they progress through the game as it is a random drop from enemies, can be found in chests, and so on. Just make sure to explore and keep an eye out.

3. Experimental Nishina Helmet

Another free helmet that you get by completing the quest Entangled. It has a cool design and protects you from environmental damage. Great for the early and mid-game. Additionally, It has decent stats. The environmental damage it protects you from is thermal, corrosive, and radiation. 

It can also protect you from physical, energy, and electromagnetic. The only thing it doesn't protect you from is the airborne damage. Furthermore, it has different armor perks depending on the rarity such as beast bunter, reactive, and analyzer.

What Experimental Nishina Helmet excels in:

  • Protects you from all environmental damage except airborne.
  • It has decent protection against physical, electromagnetic, and energy damage.
  • It comes with different armor perks depending on the rarity.

Get it for free by completing the “Entangled” quest.

2. Mantis Helmet

Makes you look totally sane.

The most unique-looking helmet on this list with really good stats. Furthermore, you can obtain it by completing the quest titled Mantis. Not only do you get yourself a cool helmet but you also get an interesting story with it. 

Also, it has 54 physical, 46 energy, and 50 electromagnetic damage protection. Additionally, it comes with 20 thermal, 25 airborne, and 10 corrosive, but sadly no radiation damage protection. Also, it is a legendary helmet and you can get a random legendary effect on it.

1. Old Earth Space Helmet

Looks pretty cool, but…

This one sadly isn't as cool as the Mantis one but the stats make up for the looks. It has 74 physical, 58 energy, and 66 electromagnetic protection. It is amazing in the mid and late-game parts. 

Alongside those amazing stats, it also comes with 20 thermal, 5 corrosive, and 5 radiation damage protection but sadly no airborne protection. To obtain this helmet it might be a bit of a chore as you have to collect 13 snow globes but alongside this helmet, you also get an old earth spacesuit and an old earth pack.

What Old Earth Space Helmet excels in:

  • It has the best defensive stats.
  • The protection against physical damage is 74.
  • You get it for free alongside the spacesuit and pack.

How to get the Old Earth Space Helmet:

By collecting 13 snow globes you can get the helmet for free.
